Not going to do the amount of games as hell if I know but I invested in.
Montreal, Wash, Pitt, NYR!!!!! (come on easter conference winners!), Detroit, SJ, Colorado and Anaheim for a tidy 20:1.
I of course wont win but I really cant see it any other way.
NYR vs SJ for the final was my pre-season pick and I'm sticking by it.
Go Sharks!!
I think the Anaheim/Dallas series will be a pretty good one to watch. I would say the same thing about Wings/Preds, but Detroit has been so schizophrenic in the playoffs the last few years that it's hard to know what to expect from them. I could see them winning it in 4 or losing it in 6.
In the East, while I'd like to see the Caps advance, I'm not convinced they have the talent to get it done. Especially after the struggle they had to go through to make the playoffs in the first place. Then again, the Flyers have been all over the board this season. Also, I think Boston will pull out at least one game, even if only to give Mr. Green some brief anxiety for a night.
Are you two into trying new things?
I completely agree with Mr.Green's predictions. There will be upsets and surprises but this year seems to have "easier" to predict match-ups.

Cant see the Ottawa upset the way they backed into the playoffs and the city itself is pretty hugely down on them. If we had to play Montreal I think everyone would scalp their tickets and it would be a hugely bias Canadians fan.
The way hockey is you have to figure Dallas, Calgary or Philly could get the upset.
The only series I would be hugely shocked would be Montreal, NYR or Detroit losing the way they played their opposing teams in the regular season and the regular season as a whole for Detroit. Yea yea I know its the playoffs and everything changes but 7-1 vs NJ? 8-0 13-0 over two seasons vs Boston?
Hockey predictions are silly. Any team in the playoffs can, and often will run the table. And in a sport where luck is a big factor, more than any other sport, this is even more true. An errant stick, a gouge in the ice, is enough to put in the winning goal.
I predict that all 16 teams will play incredibly well and each series will be hard fought. Unlike those candy asses in the NBA where steamrollers are most common in the opening rounds.
I will say this much, however. I may be a Red Wings fan, bleeding red, but it is great to see the Wild in the playoffs. Jacques has really been whipping that team into shape the last 3-4 seasons. And with some key late season trades the last couple of seasons, like the Roloson deal, they have built up a formidable group. I expect them to go far, on hunger alone.
Though I'm a Wings fan, I haven't been paying as much attention to the regular season that past two years as I usually do. That said, I would be stunned if the Wings won in 4. Nashville has played them *very* tough this year, with most games -I think- going to OT or decided by just a goal. Should be a great series, but I'm already dreading where the local media coverage will go if they take a home loss in the first two games. I'm betting it'll be the Wings in 6, with both teams splitting their initial home stands and the Wings taking the last two.

I have a hard time watching regular season Hockey because it is a pale shadow of what hockey should be. I am not watching to see 20 penalties a game and shootouts.
I watched 0 regular season NHL games unless it was Saturday night with friends. Last night I watched all for games jumping back and forth between commercials.
I wont be tuning in tonight as I have an exam 9am tomorrow but from last night WOW at the Colorado and Minny game. Also the kind of depth Colorado has is amazing. They had Sakic, Forsberg and Smyth all on separate lines and thats just amazing to have the type of players who can lead a line and make the other 2 guys better off.
GAH! My no good, motherf*cker, dad got an invitation to sit in a Suite for tonight's wings game.
OK, I am calmer. Happy for the guy. I have never seen a playoff hockey game. Went to a couple of Pistons playoff games in 04, and that was awesome, but...ARGH!

I just say the news that Nick Lidstrom set a team record with his 16th straight playoff appearance. Shame Dave Legwand was not playing, he is from the area.
I have also just realized, that a great sin has been committed in this thread. You cannot have a playoff Hockey thread without Stompin Tom Connors

I caught the last 2 minutes of Devils-Rangers, when there was that icing call that made Madden go pissy. I thought "Yeah, it was a bad call, but, you shouldn't be in the position to have it affect you, you should be winning!" Now they have another excuse for not getting past the 1st round of playoffs, other than not having a real goal scoring threat. Is Federov a free agent this off-season? Marty's got them in the games, but they need some goals.

I saw the Caps-Philly game yesterday. Wow was it fun. Ovechkin scoring the game-winning-goal with 4 minutes to go and leveling Richards with 30 seconds left was awesome! I was very impressed with his play. I don't know if they can win the series or go far if they do but they will be fun to watch.

Pens in four, will win the east.
Sidney Crosby is not presently the best player in the NHL. He's not even the best player on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Yet.
Sid will return to form, and before this hopefully deep Pens playoff run has ended, will make his mark on Stanley Cup playoff history in a big way.

Listening to the reactions of Rangers fans about Sean Avery is hilarious. "If somebody did this to Lundqvist, we wouldn't be complaining about it" and "New Jersey is run like a bush league team", etc.. If NY wins and faces another team and he tries something, I don't think they will let him get away with it like the Devils have.

Wow, I missed this thread. Too late for predictions, but mine were Similar to Greens.
Green - do you still have your fingernails after the last 3 games? Mine are all but gone, buried in the edge of my seat. These OT/1 goal games - this isn't how it was supposed to happen!
Either way, the series is 3-1. I called Habs in 5 so it seems ok. Allez les Glorieux!

I was at one time a huge Avalanche fan, but then I moved to Baton Rouge for 3 years, and did not see hockey except when NBC happened to show it (which was not very often). I'm now back in the area where the Avalanche are shown, but with the NHL being relegated to the lost nether regions of cable, it fell off my radar completely. That and two kids seemed to prevent me from ever seeing more than 2 seconds of a game.
I turned on the Avs during their previous loss to the Wild, and was stunned. It was almost like the old Avalanche. I knew Foppa was back, but had no idea one of my favorite players had returned (Foote). So now, while I don't really expect them to make it very far, I at least have a rooting interest in the team from a historical perspective. Its a shame it's not 7 years earlier -- this group of players would be kicking-A!
I could beat that moron to death with a skate and have absolutely no remorse about it. Just the thought of it brings a smile to my face. No, really.
