WoW BHA: Magtheridon Interest?

Executive
Location: Southwest MI

Hello all,

I'm interested in attempting to take down the recently-nerfed-for-2.4 Magtheridon, and thought I would extend an invitation to the GWJers on Blackhand to see if there's any interest. We'd be looking for 7-8 decently (mid kara or better) geared individuals with availability beginning 6:30 and ending 9:00 pm (server time) on a Monday. I think it'd be be fun, and for those of you that have done your heroic arc/SH/SV/Slabs, it's a chance to get that spiffy Champion of the Naaru title.

Magtheridon requires a minimum of 4 tanks (5 preferred), 5-6 healers, and the remaining DPS should be able to sustain 600+ dps on a single target. All classes are welcome, but probably highest priority would be high, surviveable dps classes (9k or more hp buffed) and people familiar enough with the fight to be good "cube clickers." Hunters, specifically, are ideal (see Ivan I'm not totally biased =)). Also please be familiar with the strats on Wowwiki.

Depending on interest, I'd like to attempt this one or two weeks from today; by then our badge vendor will be open and many of us will be strutting around in BT quality gear.

Assuming (based on interest) we do go forward with this, gear would be passed out on a /roll basis, including the gems and the bag. The only limitation would be that 1 person wouldn't receive more than 1 item unless it's to prevent an item from being DE'd.

I'm aware GWJ has a regular ZA team running on Monday evenings, so obviously make sure guild-centric runs are top priority -- this is an open invitation to those looking for something fun and new to try not currently committed. It's also a bit of an apology to attempt to smooth over ruffled feathers. =)

It's best to reach me in game (Baseball) or to post interest here.

Thanks all!

bump for updates: we have 16 people expressing interest in a Magtheridon attempt!

Currently we have 4 tanks, 2 healers, and a decent smattering of dps. I'd like one more tank (a prot paladin would be ideal for the bag of tricks paladins bring), 3-4 more healers (have a ToL druid and a holy paladin, would like 2 priests and another paladin/shaman), and the rest with strong dps -- for the infernal adds and spreading around curses of tongue/recklessness/shadows/etc I have two warlocks and would really like to increase that to 3 or 4. I also would really like 1-2 more rogues for interrupts on the channelers, at least 1 dps warrior, and many more hunters, mages, and shamans (elemental specifically).

Let me know your interest either in game or posting here.

Thanks all!

I am trying to think of a mature, adult way to respond to this in the true spirit of GWJ. Suffice to say that I don't think GWJers should be running with people who publicly slander our guild.

This is an attempt to mend fences in lieu of an apology for prior actions, as previously stated in my original post. Any concerns or misgivings you have are certainly understandable and I'd be happy to discuss them with you via PM.

This reminds me -- the healer slots are just about full -- I'm still looking for a solid tank (one capable of handling the the fourth or fifth channeler, and those are by far the hardest hitting), and several dps slots are available.

I'm out-of-pocket until 21 Apr, but would be more than willing to biatch-slap Mags (TrollSlayer, MM Hunter, geared well past Kara).

Excellent! April 21st is looking like it might be the first attempt date, and MM hunters with tricks like silencing shot and aimed shot will be extremely helpful.

I'll put you down tentative with spot reserved for April 21st.

I wouldn't mind setting foot in this instance but a few questions before I express interest:

1. Is this a Negative run and y'all don't have enough people to field a 25-man raid?
2. What level of gear are you guys (Kara, ZA, whatever)?

2. What level of gear are you guys (Kara, ZA, whatever)?

Good questions:

1) This is a run open to Negative Members and our long standing alliance guild, Nightwraiths, as well as GWJ members. Between Neg and NW, we can field on a given Monday 18-25 people, which means sometimes we go and sometimes we don't. Prior to 2.4 we were attempting Void Reaver, but the bugs in that encounter post patch have made him significantly less "user friendly."
2) Negative/NW can field on Mondays approx. 8 "post ZA" toons -- that is, players that are "done" with zul'aman. So far for Mags we have signed up an additional 8 toons that are post Kara geared. Typically in order to fill out the remaining slots, we've taken people with "borderline" gear -- that is, quite honestly, greens and blues.

Further explanation: The Monday raids I've led in the past are not rostered; if you'd like I'll post the list of "interested" players so you can armory them, but knowing how real world happens, I try to run a 1 night a week raid relatively loosely. The requirement I posted above for gear have been tightened somewhat -- specifically for dps -- to allow us a solid chance at beating raid bosses before enrage timers. If we don't reach critical mass by "first pull" time, we try to break up into heroics and whatnot.

Although I am an officer of Negative, this is not an officially sponsored guild event, which gives me leeway on who I can invite -- in other words, I can -- and will -- take an experienced and better geared nightwraith or GWJer over a Negative member.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you!

Personally, I think having you contact our guild leader..Shanker (or Reap is his other toon) would be a much better way to go about this. Even though you stated in the previous post about this not being a "Officially Sponsored Guild Event", having a talk with Shanker would be your first step.

We also have a Guild Officer's meeting scheduled for the 14th and 21st, so a substantial amount of players would be un-available to explore new content.

The key to victory is to not suck as bad as the other side.

I noticed that post sprang up with coincidentally similar dates to the ones I proposed -- I certainly don't want to get in the way of guild sponsored activities. This is supposed to be "just for fun." =)

For now I'l keep both the 14th and the 21st available for possible attempts (I can only do Monday raids at the moment). And if there's not enough interest to hit critical mass for either day, we can attempt a later date or do a few get to know your neighbor heroics, whatever sounds like the most fun.

We had been talking about needing an Officer's meeting in guild for the past couple of weeks, and this one is a bit more urgent than the previous ones. Typically if you look at old threads, you'll see that they are always scheduled on mondays, with the rare sunday thrown in.

If you also read the post, you'll see that I have raiding issues as one of the topics for my officers. Of the people expressing interest in your run, only two of them are officers. Thus only they are impacted directly. As to raiding issues, this attempt by you to circumvent the GM of GWJ Alliance in order to fill out a PUG raid certainly constitutes a raiding issue I'd like to discuss.

Insinuating that I'm working against my guildies attempts to raid and push content is not going to win you any points with me.

Now, on to the matter at hand.

You requested a formal alliance with my guild for raiding. I formally turned you down.

As you said in your PM to Krin, you are confrontational. Ironic, considering our in-game conversation consisted of you accusing me of hostility after I reminded you that the reason I was turning down your request was because you chose to talk smack about my guild on Big Red Kitty.

Seth wrote:

I never said I regretted anything nor do I think an apology is in place.

After you wrote:

Probably isn’t kidding. I actually used to run with GWJ-A, and their level of theorycraft is about on par with this guy’s. This is a group who, for PvE content, described the need for spell penetration as “as much as you can fit in.” =)

So, it seems to me that a group you feel so much disdain for conveniently serves your needs after you check some Armory profiles. Why would I encourage any of my guild members to participate with the sort of PUG dickhead attitude that most of them tend to avoid?

You frequently display the sort of behavior we discourage in-guild.

You can feel free to whisper me in game. Of course, you'll have to take me off /ignore to do that.

Btw, his PM to me essentially says that I should get over what a jerk he has been because he figures (somehow) that I'm exactly the same kind of jerk.

I certainly won't be running any cooperative runs with anyone who trashed my entire guild on a popular public forum in an attempt to mend fences "in lieu of an apology". I'm not trying to flame anyone or escalate anything, and I usually don't respond in the negative when people ask if anyone is interested in a run, but, I think this situation warrants an exception. Seth, you showed contempt for the entire guild and opportunism in your post on BRK, and that really disappointed me, but your absolute refusal to apologize just as publicly, followed by your putting our GM on ignore and THEN posting as politely as you please about a cooperative run has disappointed me even more.

Ely, I hope I succeeded in flying under the radar on this one.

I do not read WoW forums and thus was ignorant of statements made by Seth.
Seth, you have used bad form. I must decline the invitation to run with you folks.

Quick update for this:

I'll be online and accepting requests for invitations to a Magtheridon attempt tonight between 6:30 and 6:59 PM server time. GWJ members are still welcome to attend.

If we do not have a minimum of 22 people in the raid and ready to go at 7:00 pm server time, I'll cancel the raid and attempt to assist getting whoever was willing to come along to my wipefest into a heroic or Kara run.

Depending on interest, I may withdraw Monday night raid times to really focus my ZA team on getting our bear mounts.

Thanks all!

Seth, if I say anything in this post that offends you, PM me and we'll discuss how I might edit in a way that maintains the message but... softens the blow. I'm just trying to distinguish the way you communicate intent with how we have received it. IE: a kind of written word versus spoken conversation thing.

For those who don't know and are interested, I have spoken with Seth/Baseball in-game. For what's it worth, he and I have... an understanding... regarding what happened and things that were said. Do I approve of what he said? Obviously, no.

From my own perspective, Baseball communicates things very differently than most people would choose to. So, from his point of view, setting up this raid is an action taken instead of offering a direct apology to the guild. Would I have chosen this method to apologize? No. But, he views this as positive and comparable thing to a verbal apology.

As far as GWJ'ers running on this or any other non-guild raid, as long as you are not previously committed to a GWJ raid, it's fine. Krin, myself, and others have run non-guild raids because our schedule hasn't permitted us to make sign-up deadlines.

In this case, I will caution that even Baseball would say he'll find a way to irk you. I can almost guarantee it. But, if you want a shot at Mags, this may be a way to make it happen for this evening.

And, because so many people have asked me, what Seth said, does not, from my point of view, reflect on his guild what-so-ever. There's a lot of former Goodjers in Negative and a few of them have contacted me in-game and apologized.

If anyone would like to discuss with me what happened, I'd be more than willing to. Do not forget that Ely is watching this thread and bad behavior will not be tolerated.

Reap your post very accurately reflects things, I think. =)

I have been told -- and re reading many things I write, I see it too -- that my text-based communications come off as haughty, self aggrandizing, patronizing, etc. This isn't my intent, but I have a really hard time juggling my tone. Very often things that I intend to be witty come off as offensive, which definitely wasn't what I was trying to do.

So, basically, I'm [slightly] less of a d-bag in real life / ventrilo than my forum tone, I promise. =)

As an aside -- or, perhaps, caveat -- I will most likely have another person do the majority of the actual raid leading, as he has actually killed Magtheridon, and I have not.

If it's any consolation, Seth, I took what you said on Big Red Kitty-cat to be very tongue-in-cheek, and I'm happy now, to see that I was right. Typically that kind of "familiar tone" is saved for guild chat, but that isn't as important as the fact that, the people you were talking about (for the most part) aren't here any more. The impression you had of GWJ (even if it wasn't in jest), was of a group of guildies who have moved on to other things.

Hell, me guildies, think of how we've changed in just the last year...let alone since Seth last ran with us.
