I am playing on a team where I know the owner so I could also find a lot of play time for anyone interested. Right now since everyone is still low level even backups are getting a lot of play time.
I'm a little confused -- do you actually play the game as your player, like in Madden? Or do you create and level your player and the games are simmed?
Yeah the games are just simulated, but you can watch the replays if you want to. All that you can really control are the stats and how you level the players up. Make sure that you also buy equipment it can make a huge difference.
I am interested in giving this a try, but it seems difficult to find a team. I have a level 2 FB focused on run blocking and pass catching. Let me know if I can join one of your teams.

I created a Fullback named Dalat Umbrye. Currently level two with 19.5 strength, 17.5 blocking, and 18.5 carrying. I'm hoping to create a mean bastard that pounds the ball in. Cover Up and Sticky Hands are at level 1 while Power Thru is level 2.

How many players can I create? What constraints are there for having multiple?
You can create how ever many players you can afford through Flex Points. FP can be obtained through referring the game to new members or purchasing with real world money (1$ for every 100 FP). Different positions cost different amounts of FP, ranging from 100-300.

Yeah I would recommend just starting off with one guy, unless you are going to put some money into it. Your Flex points can also be used to boost your players lvl and that can be really useful. Are any of guys in the new leagues that just got created?

My FB is on the Florida LightningBolts. Managed to get a job as a part-time starter on a team with a great owner and a good bunch of guys. I think we're in USA-BBB#10.

This is a lot of fun. The team I'm on has won five straight games (5-1). We started winning when I got switched to starter (FB) even though I'm the lowest level (5). I mostly split time with the other FB but last game I had 46 plays while he had 30. The other FB didn't even get playing time at that position as he also acts as a TE.
It should be noted that I know nothing about football.

Yeah, it's a lot of fun. My offensive tackle is on a team in the USA A #6 league. We're 6-0 and about to play the other 6-0 team in our league. The game's a lot of fun, and I've already spent real money upgrading equipment, so it's certainly drawn me in.
The only complaint I have right now is that as a player you can't get out of a contract. If your owner is screwing with you, there isn't anything you can do. Fortunately, I signed only a one-year contract so I'll be able to find another team next year, but it'd be nice to be able to hold out or cancel the contract completely when put in a bad situation with an owner like that.
The strategt someone told me is to set your self on intense trainining and put your playing intensity to hard. That way if he does play you, you're so drained of energy that you'll be next to useless.
I got lucky with my owner. He's a great guy. Offerred me a slightly lesser contract than the other few I got but PMed me before contract talks were officially opened. Placed me as a starter after the first game and now has me getting more snaps than guys twice my level. Helps that we're a team completed devoted to speed and I'm one of the few offensive players focusing on strength.
