Say what you want about his politics, the man was an icon.

And a Hollywood actor married for 64 years to the same woman... wow.

Godspeed.

I'll have a soylent green milk shake in his memory.

We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.

A shame. He's been suffering from Alzheimer's for a while now, so this comes as no great surprise.

I guess he found if God really looks like the crayon-drawn tornado from "The Ten Commandments."

Best epic actor ever, and a pretty great SciFi hero, too. I just hope for his sake that Heaven doesn't prohibit the private ownership of firearms.

Technically he wouldn't have a problem with that since he only expressed interest in owning a gun until, as JoeBedurndurn alluded, it could be pried from his cold dead hands.

All that you can say is rest in peace and wish the family all the best. This is not easy for anyone regardless of who they are.

*falls over laughing* Oh man, classic.

Other than the condolences to his family, I got nothing to say about this man that wouldn't instantly move this thread into the murky depths of the P&C forum. But I will say, I didn't grow up with his movies, so it was definitely far less of a shock or less upsetting to find out that he was a little nuts about guns to the point of being kind of a jerk. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for responsible private ownership of firearms like I'm for responsible private ownership of other weapons... but sweet Zombie Jesus, did this guy ever turn me off from most of the anti-gun control crowd. As Lewis Black once said "You ever meet those people who yell so much about an issue that by the end of their speech all you're thinking is 'if you don't shut up, I'm going to the other side'." That was Heston for me.

Either way, I do still feel sorry for his family and friends... and maybe, if I have some free time this week, I'll hit up a video store and rent a movie or two to see what he was like before he jaunty march into politics.

That was the "voice of God." Haven't you seen Dogma? For Christians, the voice is represented by the angel Gabriel. In the Hebrew Scriptures, I do not recall is the angel is named.

But Heston, man, how many iconic geek nerds has that man been in. My dad once saw Planet of the Apes, all day. From the first matinée, to like 6 in the evening, my dad was in the same theater just watching.
