7 Video Game Currencies Stronger Than The US Dollar (Cleveland warning)

From Maxim

Quote:
GTA DOLLAR (Grand Theft Auto III)
Worth: $25 (U.S.)
Methodology: 100 GTA dollars = Colt .45 Pistol (M1911 A1). Custom model 1911 A1 pistol made by the Springfield Armory = $2,500
What It Means: If you do find a handgun for a hundred bucks in the real world, you'll probably have to call Nerf for more ammo.

Ouch.

I don't remember a .45 costing that much money although it has been a few years since I kept up with that stuff.

The "strength" that they're referencing is not strength at all. The strength of a currency is based on the history of it. This is just a numerical difference between the two. It's like saying that since a yard is longer than a meter, it's a stronger system of measurement. Add to that the fact that none of these games actually have a functioning economy. They're just requirement markers, a "high score" to reach, essentially.

I would've been more interested in a comparison of various MMO currencies to the dollar, since those games actually have functioning economies, and enough data to constitute a history on the strength of the currency.

Of course, you would never get that from Maxim.

My Colt Combat Commander cost me about $650 in 1983. I don't think they're more than $1000 now.

Gold plated with Rhino horn handles is about $2500. Maxim=Meh

It's not free, though. Reading costs you IQ points. Not as bad as reading gossip mags, but it is definitely written well below your level of reading. It actually makes you dumber. Honestly, you'd be better off reading Penthouse or Playboy. Maxim and FHM or basically pubtard manuals.

Agreed.
I had free subscriptions for a while too, but then I started getting telemarketer spam. And then one started pumping me for personal information, and hung up very quickly when I started asking questions about her company.

I ended the subscriptions shortly after college.

Note the word "custom". Yeah, the super duper high-end competition 1911s cost big bucks. They are extremely accurate and reliable.

You do not buy a custom 1911 at the corner Ammu-nation store. A stock Springfield 1911A1 GI has an MSRP of $619.00.

And beaten to it by Quintin. I've been eyeballing 1911's for a while now and there's some nice ones out there in the $600-$700 range, though I think I'd go Kimber before I went Springfield armory.

For 100 bucks to buy a handgun, no background check, no cooling off, it must be a currency with huge buying power.

I thought the article would be about MMO currencies since they are bought and sold in exchange for real world currencies. (Cheaters! )

I was wrong.
