My wife's litter-box cake.

So my wife is an amazing cook. Her specialty is baking. So when someone wants a special cake, they tend to go to her.

And it just so happens, that one of her coworkers has a son, and a cat, who were born on the same day (or thereabouts). So, Crystal is hired to make two cakes. One for the cat, and one for the humans.

The one for the cat was completed about a week ago. It contained a number of different things, including tuna and fish oil, blended together to turn the human stomach. Our cats wouldn't stop following us after they got a taste though, so we're pretty sure it'll be a hit.

For the humans, she made this litter-box cake. She wanted to know what you guys thought of it. I told her it looked absolutely disgusting, though, knowing the ingredients, I'm sure it tastes amazing.

The crap has peanuts in it, which makes it more disturbing (a human did this!) or amusing (cats eat peanuts?) It looks delicious though. I would have thought cat turd would be more like a tootsie roll, but then it wouldn't be easy to chew like the chocolaty poops in this litter box. Did you use a kittie litter scoop to serve it?

Nope, that's pretty close to what our cats' poo look like (for the most part, it varies from cat to cat of course).

I find that more disturbing than the "cake."

Why is it blue green, mold? You know you have to throw the litter out every once in a while, right?

It looks great. She did a wonderful job.

Great looking cake! I made one a couple years ago and have just one suggestion ... the greenish tint is supposed to be crystals and mixed in, not quite so much on the top. It was a great Halloween cake though, everyone enjoys

That was a different one, Lobster.

We've made these before, and I think it would be a lot of fun to put a bowl of actual cat kibble next to it. People would assume that it, too, was fake. Heh heh.

...What? It won't hurt them... You could even label it, you know, put a "9 Lives Mixed Flavors" sign next to it. ...Oh come on, where's your sense of adventure?

Ummm, just what "ingredients" did she use to make it look so "authentic?"

I made a similar cake for a bake sale at my kid's school. It didn't come out disturbingly authentic looking as your wife's but it was a huge hit, especially since the sale was just before Halloween. I'd be interested in the recipe that she used if she'd be willing to post it.

Nice work! I have heard of this recipe before and have toyed with the idea of trying it out. As a cat herder myself, I can say without reservation that it does look ... authentic.

She's normally not too shy about giving away her secrets, but I'll have to ask her about it.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Actually, there's a litter out now that changes to a blue-green color when it comes in contact with urine, to better show where the dirty clumps are. I'm pretty sure that's the effect she was going for.

Not sure if it's like the one I made but you make a white and a chocolate cake. You crush them up and mix them in a bowl (put some of the vanilla cake aside). You can put some food coloring in the vanilla cake to make the green. Mix it all together, add some vanilla pudding, and WALA! Keep some of the green "crystals" aside and sprinkle them on the top. Then go to town with some tootsie rolls, shaping them however you feel would look best

That looks great. I've never made one, either. I did make one of the "graveyard" ones that basically looks like a pail of dirt with worms in it for one Halloween and it was a huge hit. But gummi worms make me yak so I haven't made it again.
