Small office network slow down - help me with settings?

We recently added an Apple Time Capsule to our network as we had no back up drive and as a bonus, added a wireless access point. Since the addition, web pages are loading really slow. I thought it may be 5 computers backing up every hour hogging the network, but dropping art files on each others computers doesn't seem any slower than before.

So can it be the settings?

What we have is a DSL modem with 4 ports set to DHCP, two Cat5 cables out, one to the Time Capsule and one to a D-Link 4 port switch.

From the Time Capsule we have two wired desktops and one laptop, one desktop on wireless.

From the D-Link we have three wired desktops and a networked printer.

(wireless desktop and one wired desktop do not back up as they don't run Leopard and have no critical information on them)

Would there be a better way for us network all these together with the hardware we have, or is just a matter of network settings?

Thanks for any help...

Have you tried using Wireshark to see what your traffic is looking like?
What happens if you take the time capsule offline?

Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?

Is the Time Capsule backing up to the internet or something like that? One crappy slow upload pretty much fubars my DSL connection for the rest of the house.

Agree with Eezy. If the problem started when you put the Time Capsule in, what happens when you pull the plug?

You would have been correct. So correct as to stifle any further discussion in this thread.

I unplugged the Time Capsule and there was no change.

I ran Wireshark and had no clue as to what I was looking at. Seems cool though and maybe it's something I should learn to use for future issues.

So on a hunch I looked up the DNS addresses for our ISP and it turned out the DNS Server addresses were wrong on every machine. I changed them and things are much faster now.

The only site I'm still having issue with is this one. When I enter the URL and hit return, the browser goes blank for anywhere between 5 and 10 seconds, then loads instantaneously. Other sites, whether forums or those filled with images, seem to load faster than gwj.

Thanks for the help!
