Xbox 360 Parental Street Cred & Your Kids
Saturday, March 29th, 2008 - 7:12pm

When did this campaign begin? I have to admit, some of the videos were pretty funny. Still, I'm a bit baffled
I must be getting old, I've never heard anyone use 'Cheddar unless they were talking about real cheese. And what the hell is crack-a-lackin?

Any attempt by anyone, regardless of age, to use these terms in anything but the most ironic of senses will result in public mocking. The fact that fully half those terms are completely out of date will only compound the social stigma applied to anyone attempting to gain "street cred" by using them. Besides, shouldn't you be worrying about your lawn?
Edit: Having viewed some of the commercials, the blonde featured in them is crack-a-lackin', and should be bathed and sent to my bedchamber.

Yeah, cheddar has seen use for quite some time now.
Crack-a-lackin is a bit newer but still has been in "rotation" for some time now. Hell, I'm 34 and those are ancient even to me.
As for the bathing the blonde, meh, send her to me clean or dirty.
Werd.

"Crackalackin'" doesn't sound right to me at all. Seriously. Isn't that when someone lacks a white person?

Good for you. My garden sucks and my kids are handing my ass to me.
That's ok, I'm going to fire up Wii Boxing and then we'll see who is crying

Yes, I have Xbox street cred. I HAVE one. And I play it.
This whole thing is why God created the Urban Dictionary. It's the only thing that even remotely keeps me in the loop. Luckily my kids are seriously white and think this stuff is pretty silly. I have a lot more problems with translating mis-used anime terms. I need some sort of pseudo-Japanese Rosetta Stone.

Just.. wow. Most of those terms where getting old when I was turning twenty (ten years ago). Phat? Who even uses that anymore? It's like those news stories where they take something that's been on the street for ages and calls it "brand new".

I thought at 34 I was aging out of the gaming scene, turns out it's xbox360's lame attempt at humor that's doing that.

From my impressions on XBL, I though Certis is awesome was the catch-all prhase for any situation.

The image had me worried (I can guarantee that no one has ever used the words "Booyah" and "a game of SceneIt" in the same sentence); the video campaigns soothed my fears.
The problem, of course, is that there have been entirely too many middle-aged white ad men trying to hip-ify their products. It just makes it too hard to figure out when it's tongue-in-cheek.

I love using these when talking to my kids (13 and 10, the 7-year-old doesn't care). Especially in public. I don't think that I am gaining street cred necessarily, but I am gaining something far, far better: public humiliation of my offspring. Nothing like a big fat (no, not phat) white guy talking all up in that hizzle to make the chizzles all up and bedizzled. Word that, dog!
Man, I am so hosed when I get old and they have to take care of me

Rock Band Name Generator!... too funny to merely be coincidence.

It got back into rotation briefly at the dawn of DS Lite as a term for the first DS iteration (aka DS Phat). Other than that, its use seems most uncool.
You can't take the sky from me.
On a somewhat related note Fresh was on the other day and I saw it for the first time in years. It made me laugh hearing the dialogue and thinking to myself "Man, I actually talked like this back then? I must have sounded like a complete idiot".
On second thought, nahhh, I was just pulling out the ill dope moves.
