Prey is Five Bones on Steam this weekend only
Friday, March 28th, 2008 - 9:04pm
I suppose most of us have seen this, but if you haven't logged into steam lately and don't subscribe to their new games RSS feed, Prey is discounted to $4.95 this weekend only.
I picked it up on the off chance I'll be bored someday and want to check it out. Can't beat the price.
We all know that there is no quicker way to empty a joke of its peculiar magic than to try to explain it -- to point out, for example, that Lou Costello is mistaking the proper name "Who" for the interrogative pronoun "who," etc. - D.F.Wallace

I might download it now. I played the demo on LIVE and it was pretty enjoyable. It felt to me like they mixed the adventure genre with FPS and actually succeded in doing so.
Give a man a bag of gold and he'll complain about how heavy it is...
How can I deny this?

That's easy - move to the place where I live.
I picked it up and it is downloading now. $5 is less than I pay for lunch usually, so if it is at least enjoyable as a toasted sub it will be worth it.
And so the pile grows...

I played this on the 360 and enjoyed it. It's not a game you will probably go back to after a play through, but it is pretty fun. $5 is less than a rental.

Tempting, but I'd prefer to have a physical disc. I'm funny that way.

Bought. As Oso said, you can't beat the price and the reviews are decent. It also reportedly is a short game, which is a plus in my book.

Don't even think, just do it. I know it was blown up on the hype train and then equally snubbed by a lot of people, but it really is a great experience. I still remember the first time I looked through the box and realized it was a portal to another room, etc. Pretty trippy stuff. And by god, it's the best video game intro ever! I enjoyed this when they dropped it to $10 last time. I felt it worth the $10. Competent, by the numbers shooting with fun portal gravity WOO.
Better than Quake4, by any stretch.

I heard good things about the opening, and it has portals, even if they're not the portals I've come to know and love. Now I have another shiny new game without time to play it. Oh well.

For $5, who cares? Play it, delete it, and move on to the next game. I played the demo, and thought it was okay, but not worth the price. But for $5, I'll add it to my list of Steam games, and enjoy it for a great cheap game.

If I didn't rent and finish this game on the 360 back when it released, I would easily drop that fiver.

This couldn't have come at a better time. I've been on a single-player FPS feast recently, catching up on all the ones I skipped over the past few years, and I just beat Doom 3 and I'm halfway through Quake 4 right now, so it looks like I can complete all the recent id Tech 4 engine games in one fell swoop.
Your favourite game is over-rated.
If you are on the fence, you can watch some videos from a 'Lets Play' a buddy of mine did:

I'm not really a girl. I just play one in video games.
That seems like an awesome deal. A couple of questions on it - how big is the download? My DSL gets only about 17kb/s sustained download speed, so it may take me a day or two to complete the download if it's a huge download. I assume that price is 'locked in' when I buy? As in, if it takes me a couple of days to download the game, I won't get charged more if I'm still downloading after the weekend special expires. I wouldn't imagine so, but I've had lots of issues with Steam so I thought I'd make sure first.

Don't know about the download size, but the cost of the game only matters the instant you click Purchase. At that point, the game becomes a part of your account (which is what you're paying for - having the license added to your account, not a single specific download).

I was never very interested the game, but it's $5.00. I can't resist.
The game, as downloaded from steam, is 1.61GB.
I've been looking out for used copies on the 360 to drop below $20, and this is just the ticket. We should have a cheapskate Prey gaming night.

I wholeheartledly recommend this game, It's cheesy, predictable and some weapons are plain ridiculous, but compared to Doom 3 it's a masterpiece, they did some really creepy visual effects with the engine I think are well worth the price tag.

I'd have a crack at this for that price but looks like a no-goer down here too. Ah well.
A little zen...... Headed your way........
I really enjoyed Prey... I borrowed it from a friend and really enjoyed the play. I found their use of portals and physics to be far more disorienting and complex than Portal's. There are some rather clunky elements of the game, but on the whole it is worthy.

When my hard drive crashed over here in Greece, I was a bit screwed...couldn't find my cheat sheet of all my CD Keys, and I didn't cart all my boxes/manuals to Greece with me. I had Steam games back up and running faster than anything else. Re-install steam, sign-in. All the games I bought popped up asking if I wanted to download them again.
Personally, I think discs and bleeping CD keys are overrated.
