Operation Darkness

I love Atlus. They come out with such weird, off the wall concepts with their games. But this one takes the cake for weirdness, yet still sounds like great fun. A strategy RPG set during WWII with zombie Nazis, vampires, and werewolves. From what I'm hearing, it'll also be region-free.

There's a demo coming May 5th, so somebody tell me if this is worth getting once I can finally get a 360.

I'm keeping my eye on this one. It looks like it could be lots of fun. I'm curious how the 2-4 player co-op will work out on a SRPG.

Of course with Nazi werewolves, zombies and vampires to kill, what's not to like?

I love TRPGs and zombies but... Goddamn it, WWII!

I've pined over this game for quite some time. Garnett Lee from the 1up Yours podcast was gushing all over Operation Darkness (Japanese version) a few months back and I remember thinking, "Man, I wish this title would hit the Western markets.", but I had little hope that it would.

I'll most definitely be taking the plunge when this game lands. I wonder if it will be discounted?

But that's the beauty of it. This isn't "WWII Game #2753.4" in the Western sense of a beat to death genre or setting. This is an Eastern, anime-inspired SRPG, with Werewolf-morphing Allies fighting Zombie-Nazis and Vampires.

It takes a cliche setting and turns it on its head in terms of presentation, character choice and genre.

OK but you know what would be better than taking a cliche setting and turning it on its head? Using a fresh setting.

The fact that it's coming from Atlus wasn't enough of a clue?

I downloaded the demo from LIVE... I erased it after about 15 minutes.

Hell, I like tactics games perhaps even more than the next guy, but this first battle they dump you into was ridiculously large. It took 4 turns just to get my guys within any kind of RANGE to the enemy (boring). The camera also caused some issues... being so close into the action, it was really hard to get a larger view of what was going on.

To be fair, though, I didn't give it much of a chance.

I had the same issue as SommerMatt...but more patience. I enjoyed the cover mechanic so I didn't have to contorl so many troops. The weapons feel good, and the transformations add alot. Werewolves move tiwce as far as humans and can use all the same weapons. The fact that the main game will be multiplayer just makes me giddier. I have a feeling that for me atleast, the positive will outweight the negative interface and pacing. And I'm pretty sure I can use this game to get my friend who's pretty much only into miniture-games into video games.
