Wii Rockband Compatability with GH3?
Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 - 1:52pm
So Rockband for Wii was just confirmed. Does anyone know if the Wii GH3 guitar will work with Rockband? Or vice-versa?

I think I had read that the RB guitar is fully stand-alone, no "Insert Wii Remote here", like the GH3 version. My guess would be no, in either direction.

Um, wow? My interest-o-meter definitely just plummeted.
Here I was worried about where they were going to store the DLC ... that'll learn me.
It sounds a lot like a straight port of the PS2 version, so while the core gameplay will be there, a lot of the other stuff might not be. I'm pretty sure the PS2 version has a much simplified Band World Tour mode, for instance, and limited character customisation, so I wouldn't be too surprised if the Wii version is much the same there, too. I know I'll be getting the 360 version as soon as it launches here, but it's still disappointing to see the Wii version turn out like this -- given how important DLC is to the whole Rock-Band-as-platform idea, I always hoped that the delays in making the Wii version were to ensure that that it didn't turn out like GH3.

It is unfortunate that the Wii version, with less features than the 360 or PS3 versions, will have the same MSRP (US $170).
I would choose the word asinine instead.

Perhaps Wii-tarded?
I thought better of Harmonix than this. Releasing a half-assed PS2 port doesn't really inspire excitement.

I can't say I blame them. Wii owners on the whole are a lot more casual than we are, and they've probably looked at this Rock Band thing and thought, "That'd be fun, but I don't want to buy a 360." Now they can rock out too.
Does it suck that the Wii version won't have everything the 360 and PS3 versions have? Sure. But that's the nature of the game. I don't think I'd use the term "half-assed."

I was really excited when I heard this was coming out. I really, REALLY wanted to play, but I'm a PC gamer and haven't purchased a PS3 or an Xbox because it seemed redundant hardware. I do own a Wii for the social aspect of the gaming, and Rock Band seemed like prime social gaming.
I'm not really very interested in reduced functionality, though. I do own GH3 for the Wii, and I was hoping I could use the controller. Since I actually own an HD TV now, I might consider going with the Blu-Ray player version of Rock Band. I can't believe I'm actually pondering that.

Oh, after reading a few (very lame) interviews, I would totally use that term. It's just a PS2 port, it looks like. It's even made by the same porting studio (I forget the name).
There's no integration at all with the Wii platform(or they haven't mentioned any). Like, the motion sensing doesn't seem to be used at all. The Miis aren't used either, you can't make your own band...
I waited for this announcement because I didn't want to buy an extra platform, I only have a Wii, and it's quite disappointing, specially after all those "OMG LOOK AT THE NEW SONGS THIS WEEK" comments all over the internet.
Stupid Wii.

Eh, to me Rock Band without DLC is half-assed. I love this game and despite having a console that I could play it on, I have no interest in getting it because that console is a PS2.

The Wii is okay for me. I didn't expect anything but a port from the other consoles on a game that began and is centered on other consoles. DLC sounds pretty cool but also pisses me off because I have to buy a whole bunch of songs I don't like with the game. I'd rather they charge me $20 for the game without any songs, then let me buy the ones I want to play from an available list. That would be the cool aspect of DLC for me. Otherwise, I don't care that much about it.
Same here. I don't have an HDTV; the weak Wii versions of Guitar Hero 3 and now Rock Band compared to the 360 and PS3 versions are the first thing making me feel regret about not having a 360 or PS3.
