4 360s + 2 PS3s + 2 Wiis = 1 PC gamer
Well that's it. I've been a gamer, both PC and console since it was possible to be one and I'm finally done. Done with console gaming that is. This generation of hardware has bedeviled me long enough. Between the utterly unreliable (and loud) 360, the countless hours lost on "tech support", the inability to actually play online for over a month, the mysterious ability of firmware updates to brick my consoles, patches for "finished" games, higher prices, waiting for them to eventually get around to shipping "my" console back to me, paying for marginal DLC and other frustrations I'm done. Up 'till today my PS3 had at least been my faithful console companion despite the paucity of good games but somehow this latest firmware upgrade bricked it and after too much time spent spent on tech support I'm done. I'm selling all my consoles (the ones that still work), the games, and using the money to give my PC some upgrade love.
Despite the expense, I build it, I update it, I fix it and I love it. I know it's a console world but I'm going to fire up the ol' PC, bask in the warm glow of my monitor, buy the new "Unreal Deal" on Steam and take out some of my frustrations with my trusty PC buddy.
See you online,
Cheers!

If you've had that many consoles fail on you, I've got to ask what sort of conditions you're using them in. It's possible you just got that many lemons and you treated them like newborn babies but... that's statistically unlikely.

No one that's spent any significant time putting together enthusiast PC hardware has gone without parts failing on them, sometimes completely DOA. If you play with technology, you're gonna have stuff die on you, and sometimes you'll have a rough streak all at once. My answer has always been to have something else on hand to play.

Uhh, I don't think we need any more spies on Stan's. Maybe a nice soldier. Or heavy. Not a spy. Please.

Is anyone's favorite class the Soldier in TF2? Really? Because I'm pretty solid with one, but I'd rather play a Pyro or a Medic, and lately a Spy.
I guess the Soldier is the vanilla icecream of TF2.

I love vanilla ice cream. And my 85+ hours of soldier reveal me as a lifer.

A zombie kitten? Neato, thank you skogul for the zombie kitten your return to the PC has made, and I hope to either heal your or hit you in the head with a grenade in TF2.

Hell no! But trying to game on a PC became a crapshoot and more of a pain that it was worth. I picked up Dreamcast off Ebay just after Sega stopped producing them. I then ended up with an Xbox and a Gamecube. Now I have a Wii and a 360. I've sent my 360 in, but that is the only problem I have had with my consoles in all that time. So using a Mac for computing makes sense, when gaming on the consoles is so easy. Now I avoid all of the PC upgrading and maintenance, and game on consoles.

Yes. We've got a few good Soldiers. He's my best class by far, and Gumbie is an awesome Soldier too.

Get a copy of Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries, and join us in I.S.W.
Fear the flames...
Well it's funny Lobster, I'm actually pretty picky when it comes to my stuff. I keep/kept my stuff cool and dust free, didn't move 'em around while they were on and didn't run 'em for days at a time. It's just ironic that consoles have, for me, become the giant pain in the ass that PCs used to be and my last few PCs have been rock solid, trouble free gaming experiences.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to strapping on the flame thrower and teaching those pesky spies some respect.
Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries, now I know I've got a copy of that around here somewhere...somewhere...
Now I just need a cool pic and tagline to fit in, lol.
If I had that many failures, I'd be quitting too. I've been fortunate with my 360. I had one RROD, sent it back and got an Elite instead. That one has been rock solid. It's the DLC that will probably eventually drive me away. Companies are now witholding content that should be in a console release, only to try and nickel and dime us to death by charging more. EA games are the worst at that. And it will never change until people stop buying the crap! But I digress. Hope your PC runs silky smooth!

I think people dislike soldiers because they're very straightforward (they're kind of like Demoman for Dummies) and crit rockets come off as a very easy way to get kills. Put those two facts together and you get a lot of people who a) play soldier very little and b) have been killed by a soldier at least once in a "cheap" way. Not a recipe for love.
As a habitual engineer, I hate them.

I'm no good at the prediction required for rocket-firing. Same with demoman in a 1-on-1 fight.

I am finding an interesting correlation with the number of available consoles and the watering down of the experience. It is hard to own one, even two consoles and get a satisfying experience. You are not getting much epic RPG love on consoles. I cannot picture a satisfying RTS experience. The MMOs, Steam Community, Digital Downloads, all add a lot to the experience.
I sold my Xbox 360 to fuel a PC upgrade over a year ago. I looked at the future offerings and saw nothing that intrigued me. It was the best decision that I could make. I could not picture paying to be verbally abused online, and engaging in the same shooter experiences that I had been for the last 10 years.
PC gamers get most of the big console releases(often in a better state). Orange Box, CoD 4, Oblivion. But I got to enjoy more titles that I love. STALKER, Company of Heroes, Sins, The Witcher really make it worth the marginally more expensive hardware. I find the mitigating factor to be that I pay so much less for PC software than console software and get access to great free content like mods, community map packs in Company of Heroes. 60 bucks a title, 50 bucks for online, very rare free content(map packs, mods) made the 360 unbearable to be.
My PS3 is a Rock Band/Blu-ray player. That is all I can see wanting out of a console these days.
Go to where the games that you want are.
THE CONSOLE VIDEO GAME MARKET IS DYING! ALL THE UPGRADE AND HARDWARE ISSUES ARE KILLING IT! NOT TO MENTION PIRACY!!!!!
Welcome back! I recommend TF2 and Sins you can not go wrong there.
Mech4 in ISW is really fun too, it will be better once we get a whole crew going on weekends or select days.

PC gaming is definitely where it is at for people who want more complex and deep experiences. The online space is so much better than Xbox live will ever be and there is nothing more satisfying in gaming than building your own gaming machine.
Hop in on the vent channel, join our steam group, play TF2 on stans. You wont want to go back to console gaming after you dabble in PC multi.

welcome back! I have been a stubborn PC-only gamer. I tried to get in to console games, and found them bit lacking.
What legion mentioned is very true though, I have definitely had many headaches in all the PCs that I built. But the silver-lining is that in the end, I am sorta in control of what went bad and why, and I was able to fix the problem.
Be sure to check out the various Indie games that came out over the years and if you liked games like Oblivion on the console, be sure to check out the PC counter part, because there are TONS of mods that passionate and smart people have created that would make the game much better on PC.
Decisions are just decisions, there are neither "good" or "bad"

I've really been trying to just stay out of this, but this smug sort of pretentious tone about PC superiority is starting to wear more than a little thin.
I used to game exclusively on the PC and I will be the first to admit that if you have the money it will always be the superior platform. PC's don't have the #1 console limitation which is they don't have to be a snapshot in time. Unfortunately, to take full advantage of this feature you have to be willing to keep up with the hardware and be able to afford the associated cost. Also, I've had plenty of unreliable PC hardware so I hardly see a distinction there. Sure, the 360 is undoubtedly a ticking timebomb waiting to go off. However, most consoles I have owned have been plenty more reliable than any PC I've had.
The odds of me installing a game on a PC and not having it work is always much higher than a console game doing the same. So please, give me a break on this point. I've had so many bad experiences with games, so many patches downloaded, so many driver updates, so many unforseen hardware incompatibilities that I simply fail to see the PC as some bastion of stability. They have proven to be anything but. I've never had a console require me to "update my drivers". Even the buggiest console game has crashed on me fewer times than the standard PC game.
Also, the comments about DLC and being charged for incomplete games? That's been going on with PC's forever. I have purchased many an "expansion" to find it full of features that should have been in the original game. My favorite are expansions that also fix critical bugs. It's like charging for a patch! Nothing going on with DLC hasn't been going on for years, if not decades, in PC gaming.
I also can't ignore that I can buy all three consoles for the price of one really good PC rig. A rig that will quickly find itself becoming obsolescent on a daily basis as PC game requirements continue to climb. Oh sure, I know you could find a PC for cheaper still. Legion had an excellent article on a $750 PC, but the reality is that the less you spend upfront the faster it goes out of date. This is more a fault of PC game developers but it's a trend I don't see changing unless more people see what Blizzard has been doing for years, or what Ironclad is trying to do now. Combine the ridiculous system requirements of many games with even more ridiculous copy protection schemes that have prevented me from playing more than a few games I legally purchased and it just adds to the piles of frustrations I have had.
As for "deeper play experiences", I'm calling bunk on that one as well. That might have been true back in the days of the N64 and earlier, but consoles have advanced so much that I have played quite a few games on consoles that I simply never believed would be possible. I have played console versions of games that were actually better than their PC counterparts. Honestly, maybe it's just because of my background, I never thought that was possible. Even to the point when I got my X-Box I was firmly a believer that no matter how good a console game was, it would be better on the PC. I now understand that it is no longer true.
There is no secret that certain game styles are still bigger on the PC than consoles, for now. There really is nothing limiting a game like World of Warcraft from being played on a console though. RTS games may not even be safe as apparently developers are starting to figure out ways to make them work. A surprise to me for sure, but it appears to be happening. The simple fact is that nothing is keeping any particular game on the PC.
Now, I'm not condemning PC's and I'm not saying you're stupid or some other trite retort because you dare to enjoy games on a different platform. I really could care less where you get your jollies and if the PC is where it's at for you, more power to you. However, a lot of the comments here come off like a Prius owner telling a Hummer driver what a bad person they are for the car they drive without really knowing anything else about that person (Oh, yes, I've heard it done.)
Frankly, I don't understand why you feel that to enjoy PC games you must bash the console crowd. I also find it disingenuous to point out all of the problems with console gaming while hoping no one notices that PC's aren't exactly supermodels in the world of gaming either.

Oh, I don't mean that they suck or anything, but compared with the depth of the other classes (except maybe the sniper), they're pretty shallow, ain't they?
I like them, and I play a soldier whenever it looks like the team needs it, but it's never been my first choice.
I think everyone except the soldier hates crit rockets, tho

Hey! Im looking for some used consoles to play Rockband, DDR and Guitar Hero on!! Send me a post when they hit EBAY.
Those are titles I would use a console for. FPS or RTS on a console?? I don't have the dexterity nor the thumb stamina. But that's just me.
