O.k. I give up. Where the devil do you fine the tournament? Every time I get in 'browse a tournament', it doesn't list MLB 2K8. And etc. etc. How about a step-by-step on finding the thing...please. (yes I can be pretty blind sometimes:>) Also, 2K8 said on the 20th a 1.1 patch is due shortly for on-line lag(!))
EDIT: I signed up in game. 3 so far. 5 to go (and I picked Padres for Trashi had first dibbs on the Mariners).
I signed up. I think I may have been the guy you talked about playing with someone pretty cool in a pick-up game. He was a HUGE Tigers fan. Has anyone picked them yet? I'll have to find him on my list of recent players and throw him an invite.
I signed up as well, and I sent out a few friend requests to some of you in the tourney.
Another thing, I haven't played on Xbox Live in so long, I don't know if I know where my headset is.
So there's a good chance I might have to play few games without the headset. I hope no one is offended if I don't speak to you
Well the Tournament is not only up, but Frankie' executed the schedule and we are under way. 3 game series with 4 brackets. I'm up with Trashi' with those dreaded Mariner's ;>)
Thanks Frankie!
Couple of comments:
1)It's on All-Star!
2) Good for you young whipper snappers with lightening reflexes.
3) Not so good for the average/ can't play constantly gamer as I am (and kind of a old dude with less the lightening reflexes 'cause the brain and body has come down a few notches:>). So hopefully not going to be more fustrating then fun.
Yes, the tournament is up and on All Star. Just so you know, I wasn't able to change any settings they don't allow you to so there are what they are. Also who ever plays Maddblitz, he dosen't know of the Gamers with Jobs website so the best way to find him is to add him to your friends list. Good luck guys and have fun, also if you need a game reset please, leave a message here or send me a voice message it will get done faster by voice message I'm always on at night.
Well, Boomer and I started this off with a bang. Unfortunately he knocked me right out of the tournament in two games. The first game was a real back and forth battle that either of us could have won. But he did 12-11.
In the second game, Mark Mulder (not me!) gave up 8 first inning runs and I played catch-up the rest of the way. While I was down 15-3, I came back and lost 17-15, or something close to that.

I looked at your scores while you were playing your last game and thought, '..whoa momma...look at all those runs!...' What's weird in the first listed game on the 2K site, the final tally is reversed of the box scores (at least they were when I looked). Second game looked fine. I notice too that they don't have everything connected, so you can't look at recap or box scores perse. Or any stats. But from the 2k Sports site, all this actually didn't get up and running till today anyway. So you folks probably one of the first to give it a shot.
What are the differences between Pro and All-Star. Just more twitchy in fielding and batting?
(oh and in the announcement that the MLB 2K8 league/tourney sites are up and running today. He also said the 1.1 patch due 'soon'.)
EDIT: ugh, I'm visitor, no DH. My pitchers aren't sure what a bat is for beside doing the mambo and such:>)
How does scheduling work? I see you're in the same timezone as I am Donan so just let me know when you're ready.
How about tomorrow night around 8pm PDT? (Wednesday the 26). If not then, how are your weekends? Can you play Saturday or Sunday mornings? Or later in the evening on either day?
hey guys, maddblitz and i are having some dropped connection problems.
we tried twice to play our tourney game tonight and both games didn't last more than 2 innings before the connections were dropped.
i played against swampy last night in a casual game, and while the connection wasn't perfect (a bit jittery on my end, not sure how it was for swampy) but we made it through the whole game no problem. tonight against maddblitz, the connection actually felt faster (less jittery) so the dropped connections were really strange. maddblitz seems to think it was because my connection is junk (probably). we are gonna try again tomorrow night.
Same thing happened to Trashi' and I. We tried twice and connection dropped both times about an inning or two in. Both of us have solid connections and both are in the same area (and I had just played some RB 6 the day before with no problem and I saw Trashi go into some MP play with it after our aborted attempts in MLB 2K8.). Seemed Frankie' and Swampy got a couple of games in so who knows what is going on.
Swampy and I have played about 4 casual games with no real problem except the usual on-line MP lag (and we are on opposite Coasts). But then too, 2K just opened up league/tourney play yesterday, so maybe some bumps happen in some random way. I will check around the 2K forums and XBL forums and see if other folks are having the same thing happen (probably all arbitrary tho').
maybe it has something to do with the upcoming update... im hearing from many sources like ign and others that the update should be out in the next couple of days and maybe that has something to do with it...
Trashi', let's try tomorrow morning around 10am (29 Mar). Lower network traffic and maybe a patch by then. If not then, perhaps early afternoon starting between 1-2pm.
Let me know what works for you or an alternate time.
Frankie and I have a 1-1 split. FRANKIE AND I HAVE A 1-1 SPLIT.
This means I beat Frankie in a sports game.
Be on the look out for other signs of the apocolypse.
Congrats! Very cool that you two got a couple good games in. I love looking over the stats from my PC at the 2K Sports page. Some good stuff there.
Trashi', even tho' we cancelled twice on two network failures and zeroed out the results, you still got in, stat-wise, on some of your hit's and such, so at least there's that. (your wins will come soon enough:>)

Could you post a link to the page? When I try to access it via 2K, I get a League Deleted message. Not sure if it is because I was already eliminated, but I kind of doubt it since I can still access all three of our past APFB League pages.

TrashiDawa and I got our game in today with only a few quirks, but no disconnect. Fun, fun time. Lot's of hit's and HR's (too many), but it went back and forth till he put the hammer down in the 9th. This game will really shine once the lag is taken care of (although with all the hit's, something like 28/22 and 7 HR's total, you can find a rythmn of some sort, although it can change a bit with latency changes.). We both had some fielding pecularities. Like I had a hard grounder near 2nd on the SS side, fielded it, but it did not allow me to toss it to second, but forced me to run to the base for the out (which I did not). And a bunt w/ a man on 3rd. Went short toward the pitcher, fielded it, saw the hand go out to tag the man coming from 3rd, no go. So I guess it wanted the pitcher to literally run into the baseman. Anyway, good times regardless.
EDIT NOTE: I know sometimes it takes a few hours if not overnight for stats to show up on the 2K site, but it looks like our reset because of network disconnect has caused our recent game statistics (except box score) that we actually completed, to not show up. I'm hoping it's just taking a longer period, but...
I definitely think that is possible. Pitching seems to be much harder on All Star. I had trouble throwing strikes, and then started grooving the ball to make up for it. I also throw more meatballs on All Star. Hitting just didn't feel that different. It's all timing, and the lag means it is going to be much different than playing offline.
In fact, it is hard to transition back to offline after playing online. You lose all of the timing you had gotten down.
I think the multiple motions with the analog stick for both hitting and pitching makes it necessary for even less lag when you play online. I really have my doubts it will ever be great. The problem I have is, I can get any of you guys out on a consistent basis if I just refuse to throw strikes. You can get me to. I swing at balls that hit me in the thigh. So I feel bad when I am trying to paint the corners, and missing, but still getting strikes. Then, once i get two strikes on someone, I can put them away by throwing balls. I don't do this, as that would be cheese.
The other issue with the lag is you are really discouraged from throwing anything but fastballs. Any off speed pitch just gives the batter more time to catch up, especially since we are not aiming this year. I hated aiming at pitches, but is means that for the most part, it is just timing. You have to swing so early to hit a fastball, that often I don't even swing when I tried to. Give me an offspeed pitch and I will hammer it.

Swampy may be on to something about too many hits in All-Star. However from what Frankie' mentioned, he had no choice when setting up the tourney. A/S was the only choice.
I agree with Jay' about transition to SP to MP is hard. And that you definitely throw more meatballs in All Star.
I know what you mean about feeling bad about trying for curves, sliders and such and if you miss they are really out of the zone and seeing how you have to began your swing on release, kind of a 'bummer' to do. Matter of fact I ask Trashi' if he just wanted to throw straight balls (i.e. fastballs and changes(although they do drop a bit), but he declined. I do feel you can time curves and such tho'. I hit a few 'pulse green's', but most missed. With MP lag, what I would almost never miss a 'pitch' in such a matter that it would go down to a small green, the expand out to red. This happens allot in MP. But again, you can get those curve type pitches in, it's just if you miss, you miss badly.
But as you can see from our game and Swampy/Frankie's, plenty of run production and long balls (we were both going, 'huh' when I hit 3 in a row. But I think that had allot to do with pitcher fatigue too). We had allot of hits. Anything in the gaps seem to be double if not a triple if you don't throw it just write (cut-off or not). But it all balances out it seem's to me for we both had our chances. There were close calls at the plate, outs and safe, as well as other bases. For me, as long as there's a fighting chance, then it's a fun game, win or loose. (and quick decision making on throws...ugh...brain disconnect, but better then usual Swampy:>) We only had one error! Although I must say there were some lame calls by the umpires.)

Take a look at Frankie and my score for game 3: 21-18!
I honestly thing the more stringent pitching on All Star couples with the lag makes for more meatballs and thus more hits.
I have always liked low scoring pitching duels. This game isn't that on all-star. Maybe we should start throwing more off the plate stuff and kind of force ourselves to have plate discipline?
Trashi', if you happen to read this today, Thursday, 2 Apr. I'm up for the 2nd game tonight around 8:30pm PST. I'll keep an eye out for you. If not, 'maybe' tomorrow night or shoot for weekend to do a couple. (no news on patch in that it was supposedly going to be release a couple day's ago. But because of the Dashboard update, has been delayed and no one knows for how long (2K rep tried to get an answer from MS, who has had the patch for about a week or so now, but got one wrong answer and posted it, and is now gunshy to pursue MS anymore. Just a 'wait and hope'.))
I hope Trashi' is o.k. We had a game schedule last Sunday and he came on later that day to apologize saying something unexpected happened. He's gone missing for this week.
One ofthe guys was saying he met a cool pubbie in the impressions thread. Want to ask him to join?
