Civilization Revolution in Stores June

Civilization Revolution has a released date! We will be shipping all versions of the game (DS, Xbox 360, and PS3) on June 2nd. Stateside Civilization fans will see their copies on store shelves on June 3rd, and internationally the game will come out on June 6th.

And now that the date is finalized, let's start our countdown to world domination.

I haven't even exhausted Civ IV yet, haven't bought COD4, Company of Heroes (+exp.) and Sins of a Solar Empire....
And now they are releasing this game! I don't have that much time! hehe
But I am looking forward to it. Haven't read the nitty gritty yet. The art is slightly different. Not so sure how
I feel about that.
Screenshots, a trailer and info on their site that has just been launched.

Anybody else looking forward?

Wow, I'm actually excited about the handheld version of the game. Civilization has always been a fun game, and I've always greatly enjoyed it. But I've always wanted to take it with me on trips. Now I can!

I was sitting at an airport gate once playing Civ on my laptop, waiting to get on a plane. I got so engrossed that I missed my flight. Apparently they paged me 3 times.

So be careful what you wish for.

I'm looking forward to it. I've not really played a Civ game since CivII on the PC and since I've primarily moved to almost exclusive console gaming it will be nice to have a chance to dive back into the franchise.

I am curious how it will play. They have redesigned the game with the console in mind and have thus accelerated the game a bit. That will be a fine line to walk because the pacing and build-up are part of what make the Civ game fun for me. I have a lot of faith in Sid though.

If you loved Civ II you NEED to buy Civ IV, it will not disappoint.

I'm extremely disappointed at the lack of a PSP version, especially after the brilliant port of Pirates!.

The PSX version of Civ2 will have to hold me over. Though my wife does have a DS I can steal to play Civ: Rev if it's any good.

Sid Meyer's latest not being released on PC? God help us, the PC truly is dead. Long live the PC.

Enjoy all that "streamlining," console kiddies. I hear Sonic makes an appearance in this one, plus if you take the warp zone at the end of world 3-1 you can save the princess in like 2 minutes.

Yeah, I guess those references are pretty dated. Plus the general crabiness doesn't exactly scream youthful exuberance, either.

It is. It's called "Civilization IV".

Revolution is a console version of Civ4 streamlined for console controls & speedier multiplayer.

Revolution is a completely new game, not a streamlined version of Civ IV at all.

It sure looks/reads like Civ4 remade to be console-friendly to me. And that's not a bad thing, I'm actually quite interested in it.

I'm extremely interested in Civ Revolution. I picked up Civ IV last year and it was the first Civ game I've ever really played. It's fun, no doubt about it. I'm really looking forward to the changes in Civ Rev though. They look to be streamlining some of the more tedious aspects I didn't care for much and focusing on a more intense and probably shorter gameplay experience. Will be interesting to see how it works out.

Right now I have high hopes. Hopefully it'll deliver!

There's never been a Civ I didn't buy, and this won't be the first. I'm a little dubious that they are reintroducing the concept of 3-in-1 Army units from Civ III, but maybe they'll implement it better this time. I like the idea of achievements.

I figure, if they are the exact same game (minus obvious interface changes and and graphics quality) then its DS all the way.

I figure both.

It's supposed to be the exact same game. DS on the go, 360 so I can play multiplayer with you guys.

It's Sid Meier. He never released a sucky game. And that's 25 years and counting.

I'm with you...I can't see a way out of buying both. If only they'd remake Alpha Cen someday, then I'd be in real heaven, but Civ on the DS is pretty damned close...

Oh, worse yet: I have a copy of Civ IV for my PC, but I haven't played a game on my PC in a LONG time...now that I'm getting a new MacBook Pro, though, I'm likely to buy a new copy (I probably won't install windows on that machine...it's cheaper just to buy Civ IV!).

So, that means something like 3 Civ purchases in the next three months. Sounds about right...

I wouldn't go that far. Sid Meier's Railroads sucked. At least some people think Alpha Centauri sucked. Civ 3 at launch was completely unplayable although a year's worth of patches made it a solid game. The first expansion to Civ 2 was worse.

And to top off my morning dose of vinegar, while I hope the game is good too, buying the console to play the game before the game even gets reviewed strikes me as intemperate.

Well, I definitely disagree regarding Railroads! and AC, both of them were quite addictive (to me, at least). But I agree that some people may not find them attractive or playable. And some of his games were definitely less than perfect, but I wouldn't say they sucked.

That said, I definitely wouldn't buy 360 just for that. But I would buy a DS for Civ if I didn't already have two of them. To be frank, I bought the DS for the then-announced Europa Universalis II port (which is now delayed forever, it seems). Doesn't matter, the DS has a lot of strategy goodness anyway.

Well you're definitely right. RRT2 just got multiples of playtime from me when compared with Railroads. And it's not because it was published sooner, it just does its thing better. I just don't feel Railroads sucked, that's all.

Does anyone else see that spotting unintentional irony then running off to tattle is a lame rhetorical ploy?

Particularly when no irony, unintentional or otherwise, exists. Brawl is a love letter to console gamers--and a rather well-executed one from what I've read. The Civ series, and the style of game it represents, has long been seen as the last bastion of PC gaming. Note the distinction? If Sid Meyer can shepherd TBS/RTS gamers over to the console, then PC gaming's greatest latter-day champion will have been its final betrayor.

And if that's not ironic enough for you: Darth Vader, Luke's greatest foe, is really is father.

Don't forget before it even had a release date (got my 360 several months ago!).

Ok, so I exaggerated a little. Still, CivRev was a big factor in my decision whether to get a console or upgrade my 3 year old PC first.

I'm still eager to see how this turns out. Odds are incredibly good I'll be snagging it for the 360 if the multiplayer is solid. Civ4 on the pc is perfect for deep solo TBS and arranged multiplayer with my friends, CivRev could be fantastic for quicker MP sessions on Live with buddies or even strangers (I've had decent luck getting fun opponents for Carcassonne and Texas Hold 'Em on Live).
