I have a PS3 now and I would like to put video on it or stream it from the PC but I am not sure what program is best for ripping my DVDs to a format the PS3 can stream.
I have had the best results with Handbrake, though it's a little daunting at first when you have to build your One True Encoding String. The latest version ships with a bunch of presets (one of which is specifically for the PS3), if you want to take the sissy route.
You can use DIVX all of my Xvid videos have worked fine. Also I hear good things about TVersity which does conversion on the fly and is apparently a much better DLNA server than Windows Media Player.
I also use Handbrake. First use DVD Decrypter to rip the dvd to my hard drive, then point Handbrake to the new Video_TS folder (using the sissy PS3 defaults). That results in the final video file which I drop onto an external hard drive which has a collection and plug the hard drive into the PS3.
