Hulu

It looks like http://www.hulu.com has gone live and public. It is nice to see the big media companies finally doing something right-ish with regards to digital content. And the advertising model seems fine with me - I was just required to watch a Hellboy 2 trailer prior to starting an uninterrupted stream of the Big Lebowski. Sweet.
I guess we'll see if it pans out to be something that really catches on, or if they'll get greedy and start all kinds of annoying ad placement tactics.

I've been in the Hulu beta for quite a while now. It's been kind of cool to watch it grow from a few NBC shows into the diverse offering it is now. I just wish I had a TV-out on my PC and a cheap DSL connection available so I can drop my crappy ass small town cable TV / ISP and use Hulu for all of my content needs.

Let's hope not. As you say, this is exactly what the media industry needs to do. ABC, CBS, and everyone else: get on board.
Edit: What version of Flash does this require? The version that is available for embedded browsers (like those found in the PS3 and the Wii) is a few versions behind, so while it works with YouTube, many other sites (like the major network websites) do not. If this works with the version of Flash in the PS3 browser, though, this will be truly awesome.

Booo!
...stupid location-sensitive websites...
EDIT: Anyone got any interesting workarounds for this? Run through a privacy proxy, maybe (doesn't seem to work, at least with some of the easily-found web ones)?

Yeah, the region lock was annoying, but not unexpected. Running video through a proxy isn't going to happen unless you have access to a high bandwidth private server.

Yeah, that killed it quickly for me.

Not sure if you'll be able to access the content though that portal though.

We can't.

Sweet, they have firefly.
If I'd known it was harmless, I would have killed it myself

Just wanted to bump this thread, since I've been messing around with Hulu these past few days. I originally avoided the site because of the writer's strike and the associated issues of payment for online distribution, but with that settled, I decided to check things out.
Just watched two episode of THE BOB NEWHART SHOW... they have all 48 episodes of seasons 1 and 2 online. Pretty neat. Huge selection of shows, although most of the really popular shows don't have quite as many episodes (THE OFFICE, for example, only has the 8 episodes of season 4 available... yeah, it says 9, but for some reason they split one of the hour long eps in half).
And yes, for all you browncoat nerds, they DO have all 14 episodes of FIREFLY available online.
I'll certainly be browsing the site whenever cable/network TV lets me down.

Not to hijack but www.southparkstudios.com is live now as well. They allow you to watch any episode, any season. It is Viacom sponsored so no annoying super pop ups like you get with other sites like allsp.com
yeah, I read about that... haven't checked it out yet (I've kind of burned out on South Park these last few years).

the openHulu webpage links to the HotSpot Shield which in turn changes something in your DNS configuration so that your IP appears to be within the US. It worked for a couple of days with both Hulu and OpenHulu but Hulu found a way to work around that workaround;
if anyone else has found anything, please post!!!

I'm just getting torrents, or ignoring the shows altogether now : P
The South Park online deal is awesome tho.
