Steam Scam? Odd chat message, that may have been trying to get my password
VAC2 Morderator - Jonathan: your account has been detected by vac for inspection
So I message back:
Roo: That's odd. I'm 36 year old gamer, not some script kiddie...
and he goes offline. then I check his account, and it says the account is "private."
I'm guessing this was going to turn into some kind of scam to get my password, but my bold assertion of being OLD somehow scared off the little creepy bugger.
Ever seen anything like this?
To add fuel to the fire, amongst the automatic messages in the chat window, I saw this:
VAC2 Morderator - Greg has changed their name to VAC2 Morderator - Jonathan.
VAC2 Morderator - Jonathan is now Away.
VAC2 Morderator - Jonathan is now Online.
Also, one chat line before that he called me "Joe", which is in my profile. Again, I think in some lame attempt to sound official or like he knows me or "knows all".
Fishy. Very, very fishy. ![]()

it does sound fishy, I would just report and be done with that guy

Somebody got a link for telling Steam to "get him!"?
Maybe try this?
I got something similar. They almost immediately went to asking me for my username and password. I replied that I didn't like being phished, then they immediately went offline. When I tried to find their steam page, it was marked private.
Hopefully no one falls for these guys. Their attempts are pretty transparent.

Transparent is right, he even spelt 'moderator' incorrectly.
This is why I don't accept random friend requests on steam - they tend to be phishing attempts. It must work though, or they wouldn't be trying it. I'd hate to see someone lose their account this way.
I've had this happen to me a few times. Usually people asking for my account and password due to "server problems." I usually ignore them.
Edit: Steam also says they will never ask for your account name or password.
Doesn't the Morderator part give it away? Helps if you spell moderator right I would think.
Hell, it says so at the top of every single Steam chat window.

Yes. So does failing to capitalize the acronym "VAC".

Roo, I know my profile says my name is "Kevin", but I'm actually Doug Lombardi. I find your incident to be horrible and I regret that it happened. I will personally look into it and see who has been trying to mislead you. Simply PM me your username and password for your Steam account and I'll ensure everything is secure. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
Your favourite game is over-rated.
Sounds legit! PM sent.
I also send my username and password so he can make sure nobody is going to screw with my account.
I don't watch, I interact!
You may also want to provide a credit card number, just in case they need to credit back any fraudulent charges.
Steam is usually more pro-active when ordered to "seize him!"
NOTE: This is not a doodle bug.

"Morderator" might have been used instead of "Moderator" because "Moderator" might be a reserved word for Steam.

Well... stuff happens
please forgive all lingual ridiculity - i'm definitely not an English native speaker
It's not that there was any chance I'd have fallen for it. I just want to know how to nail the little weasel to the wall. I posted a support ticket and got back a very generic "we'll look into it. let us know if you need any more help in the future."
Least they got back to me.
UCRC....that's seriously freaking funny.
kuddles...irony. I get it. Ironic.
