BSG Season 4 Catch-All Thread (*SPOILERS*)
Thursday, March 6th, 2008 - 5:26pm
Since the premiere is still a month away, it may be too early for a catch-all, but it just seemed right to start a season thread with one of these:
The Story So Far in 9 minutes.
It might take a couple of views to get everything straight. Some of that I had completely forgotten.
Psychotic Foreign Teenage Chicks are so hot. - Legion
...they can also come bathe in the glorious, healing light of my Johnson. - Prederick

For those of you who may like to read spoilers about what supposed to happen in Season 4, I beg you, please don't post them here. I had a friend already mention a couple of things that are supposed to happen in Season 4. I almost stabbed him. (Theories are one thing, but internet rumors about what's actually happening is something different).
Sorry, I just wanted to get that out of the way. I hate spoilers to begin with, but it's especially bad with such a great series.
They continue to surprise the hell out of me and I love it.

I'm really curious to find out if there's any significance to that "Last Supper" picture on the front page, or if it's just a reference to this being the last season.

The bad thing is that I managed to miss most of season three. The good thing is that my season three DVDs arrive in seven days.
I just finished re-watching the mini-series, seasons one and two, and Razor, so everything is fresh and ready for season three. I had to stop "The Story So Far" at the five minute and change mark because it was straying into new territory.
I borrowed season 1 from a friend a while back, just bought 2.0, 2.5 and razor. Waiting for them to arrive, got them and season one for $80 off ebay. Once I'm done watching 2.0 and 2.5 will probably be time to get 3, and watch it, then razor, then will be ready for 4.0:)
Wannabe priest with a sword....
I'm getting the gf caught up currently. This weekend we burned through almost all of 2.0 (there is one more episode and then Pegasus which will be watched on 2.5 with the extended episode) getting her mom and sister addicted in the process. By the time we finish 2.5, Season 3 should be here and we'll get her ready for Season 4.
I just heard from a friend that apparently they're doing Season 4.0 and Season 4.5 (probably because of the writers strike). Any confirmation on this?

Okay, here's some Rampant Speculation Which Has No Basis In Anything Further Than Fanwank Theory that I've been batting around for quite a while now, and I thought I'd share behind some spoiler-swipe tags, regardless. Here goes:
[Swipe]Anyone else think we're destined to find either the Cylons or the Final Five (or whichever members of the Final Five survive; or some combination thereof) as the progenitors of humankind once we get to Earth -- possibly even Baltar and Six as Adam and Eve? Something like that? Or Baltar and, I dunno, Tigh as Adam and Steve?[/Swipe]
Anyway, just a theory I've been nursing for quite awhile.

That was great. I like Col Tigh's the best.
The show last night was pretty good! We got confirmation that the "final four" are cylons and not just hearing things, plus a bunch of other spoilerific stuff I won't ruin for folks. I'm happy with the direction Apollo is moving. Many of the characters were reinvigorated, in fact. Not the best season opener for this show but still excellent.
We shall grapple with the ineffable, and see if we may not eff it after all.
I'm just glad Seelix survived her first combat flight.
I am wondering how long it will be until we get sick of "meaningful looks" during every scene that the secret cylons share with normal humans. It would make a great drinking game however
.

Tigh: Ha... ha !

President: "PSYCH !"
Tigh: (sighs with relief) Oh... ha ha !
President: "Security, take him away !"

Security goes right past him and takes Extra #57.
Extra #57 yells "I am not a Cylon, I swear to Gods !"
Adama shoots him in the head.

Classic!
I've caught myself wondering how they're going to string this out for another 19 episodes. It is a 20 ep season, isn't it? Nothing really new was introduced. Starbuck follow-up and Baltar (now with more HeadSix) has a harem. Yay. Something is going to have to happen to fill up the time, right?

There's a new #6 coming named Natalie, apparently the leader of a new branch of Cylons with entirely different goals than the rest of Cylon-kind. And I think she's going to have something to do with Helo and Athena.

Sci-Fi seasons are only like 8 episodes. The age of the 22 episode season, even on 'regular' TV, is gone.
Do you ever walk alone like a drifter in the dark?
Season 4 is reported to be 22 episodes.

Heh, I enjoyed the eps. But I guess my reason for liking the show may be different from the norm.
I love the show because it make me reflect upon myself and think about things that I normally wouldn't have.
This eps. made me think about what is right, and what is wrong? What criteria should we use to judge others and ourselves? Should we even be so judgemental?
On one hand I dislike Baltar more and more. But I can see that if I were put in his shoes I would be no better. I agree that cylon sucks for destroying the human civilization, but is it right for us to condemn the individual based on the action of the "collective" that he/she is born into?
Who Am I?
Doesn't mean won't split it a la Seasons 2 and 2.5.

Using the word "sucks" to describe mass genocide seems to lack a certain... I don't know what it is, but it's definitely an understatement.
I frankly have never understood the show's navel gazing, even if it were warranted. It seems that an enemy hell-bent on your destruction would provide more than enough justification for returning in-kind. Just saying.

Not sure what you mean by "navel gazing", but if the humans had the means, the Cylons would be wiped out in immediately. Since that is not possible, it leaves room for stories about understanding the how and why this happened. That includes whether humans "deserve" to survive.
I mean, it's safe to say that there is a faction of radical Muslims that are, in fact, hell bent on the destruction of the United States. Now there is a debate as to whether torture should be allowed, or at least redefined so that we can be even more cruel to our captives than we would have ever thought possible 20 years ago. The genius of BSG is how it actually works through those social issues within a fictional story.
I think the big twist this season will be the "good" Cylons. I believe there will be Cylons that think the human holocaust was wrong, and want to work at ending the war. Obviously we know that is possible, since at least one already exists. Once they understand that Cylons are "human enough" and have independent ideas about right and wrong, they can no longer just kill every toaster they meet. Each toaster may actually have the same rights to liberty as each human. At least it makes for interesting stories.

They did have the means, and Helo squandered it without repercussions. Just sayin'

And that act of genocide would have made humans no better than the Cylons. The reflective tone of BSG was set with Adama's speech during Galactica's decommissioning:

Spoilers ahead, so if you haven't watched the episode, steer clear!
...
Just watched the premiere episode tonight and I really liked it. Here are some thoughts that popped up after watching the episode...
The initial scene when Tigh shoots Adama in the head shocked the hell out of me, and lingered just long enough to make me think that it actually happened. Nice.
Baltar's scenes were excellent, and I'm liking where they're taking his character. For the first time since the series started, he actually did something selfless and was ready to die for a something outside himself. Interesting.
I like how Lee brought up his brother when he was talking with his father: a nice tip of the hat to something gone but not forgotten and I find it frames his reaction to Kara returning rather well.
In regards to what happened with Anders and the Raider while he was piloting the ship, I'm of two minds... Either the raider gave an order to Anders, or Anders issued a command to the raider. Either way, it means the Raider is aware of Anders being a part of the Final Five, something that the skinjobs aren't privy to. It's obvious that the Final Five are an altogether different breed of Cylon, so could they possibly work in conjunction with the toasters at some point to overthrow the skinjobs, which seem to have subjugated the toaster variety of Cylon? Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the toasters might know something the skinjobs don't.
Now for something I wanted to share with you guys about the episode that's more on a personal note. My wife is a big fan of the show and is actually quite active on the SciFi.com boards. A while back, one of the frequent forum posters died in a car accident, and this sudden passing sent some shock waves through the tightly knit community. My wife has always enjoyed creating fan art, and both as a coping mechanism and as a tribute to Sara (the girl who passed away), she made a collage in her memory and passed it along to Terry Moore (Ron's wife). Ron put the collage on the memory wall and took this pic with his camera:
When Kara is looking at the wall and wondering why no one took her picture down, you can see Sara's face smiling back for a brief second as the camera pans down. I just think it's awesome of Ron Moore to have done that, and thus including Sara's memory in Battlestar Galactica forever. She loved the show, and you could say she's now a small part of the very thing she loved.
