I'm sure there are more than a few of you hungry for the Penny Arcade eXpo this year and I'm curious how many of the GWJ community are planning to attend. What about our friendly podcast-lunatics? You guys coming too?

I am hoping we can get some good TF2 action going. I don't know about the rest of you, but I love the idea of getting in a savage kill in only to hear a strangled cry over the static noise of the LAN-room.

I don't think I'll have the vacation time for it this year, what with a Florida trip in 2 weeks and our 10 year anniversary coming up in June.

I can't wait! Last year I had to work every night, so I missed all the concerts and some panels I wanted to see. I'll be sure to ask off in advance this year.

Yeah, I never ever thought you would find me in anything LAN related, unless I was the one in the corner griping about how my bf was ignoring me. Then at PAX last year I killed someone. It was pretty awesome to be able to yell right in his face how much more awesome I am than him.

Unfortunately, we will not be joining this year. Someone should tape the making of Mondays PA comic and post it, though! That was my favorite part.

This is the very essence of any gaming related LAN. If you're not yelling at each other in between bursts of gunfire (or blowing up bases, or whatever it is you're doing in game) then you're not doing it right.

I'm a big maybe. Luckily it doesn't land on my wifes and my anniversary this year. My hope is to make it to the slap and tickle, and maybe a little bit of one day. Labor day weekend is one of my busiest, so it's unknown if my supervisor will let me take the time off.

I have been thinking about this, but I'm not sure yet. PAX is indeed a very cool event for gamers, and I had a blast meeting so many Goodjers last year.

BTW I believe the BYOPC thing fills up at lightspeed, so anyone wanting to do that had best sign up quickly.

The last year that I attended PAX, I wasn't a GWJ listener, so I'm kind of curious to meet and/or riddle-with-needles other members in real-time.

Closer to the event we'll setup a Slap and Tickle. Last year's was at Kells and we had 20+ of the usual Rogue's Gallery there.

I plan on going this year, at least at this point. I have a friend who lives in Seattle, so I'll be staying with him, I believe. Neither my wife nor I have ever been to Seattle, so we'll probably do some touristy stuff after the convention. During the convention, it will be my plan to be running tabletop games and demoing our newest games.

My advice: pick some place without live music! It's too loud.

If anyone has any better suggestions, I'd be glad to help be point man. Or we can man up and sit in the dining room upstairs, or get one of their banquet rooms, but things were very nebulous and it was done on very short notice. This time around we can plan it better.

There are tons of possible locations for a slap 'n tickle. Keeping it cheap enough is something of a priority for those of us who are having to travel to get to the thing in the first play.

An obvious option is Gameworks, though I'd imagine any plans would have to be nailed down close to immediately, since that place will likely get lots of reservations through the PAX-timeframe. I know that the PA Enforcers had their shindig at Gameworks last year.

The comments about going to a place without live music are hereby seconded. I've had more than enough times going to a bar to meet up with friends only to have the live music move us somewhere else because (in this case) we're a bunch of gamers wanting to talk excitedly to one another. I'll give some more thought to this, myself. Any other possible places? I know that a quick google-maps search would bring up some more possibilities...

I wouldn't take that as criticism. Just something to work out this time. I don't know Seattle, so I couldn't do any better. Even racking my brain on a good Portland location (if PAX were held in Portland) I can't think of a great restaurant that would take on that many people and be quiet.

Gameworks is going to be wall to wall with convention attendees all weekend and has at least one sponsor party booked into it I'm aware of. Plus you're also going to be up against the fact that it's Labor Day Weekend and everyone and their farkin' dog is going to be rampaging around between the returning college students and what have you. There's a couple good restarants at the top of the Galleria, but they're going to cost.

What about distance? Was Kells too far to go for anyone last time around? What about the Seattle Waterfront or Occidental Square? There's a hotel restarant/bar in the bottom of the Sheraton that looked nice, but it was closed when I went by so I don't know what it was like.

Whatever we choose won't run into the Enforcer Afterparty (wherever it ends up this year) because that's Monday night.

DS, I wasn't considering it criticism. It was loud in there. With more than a few days notice we can fix that, that's all.

Or duh. I'm a moron. Let me check with some people I know who have much better social lives than I do and live on that side of the water.

I'm weird, I actually enjoyed PAX the most for the panels rather than playing the games. Oh, and the live music.

So yeah, definitely there. It'll be interesting to compare it directly to Gen-Con.

Remember, only by treating everyone with dignity and respect can we maintain the element of surprise for that inevitable day when we wipe our enemies from the face of the Earth.

For clarification, "bnpederson" is pronounced "Brian."

I am about 50/50. I've never been to any kind of gaming convention, but this sounds like a great one to take in, if for no other reason I can visit my brother (infinitelyloopy), who will be going, and my twin nieces. So I am sure we would be up for a Slap and Tickle as well.

I have no basis for comparison, but I can't imagine a gaming convention better than PAX since it's so focused on us. Yeah, there's a showroom floor, but it's so gamer-centric it's hard not to love it, IMHO.
