Pred's Movie Minute: "Persepolis"
Sunday, February 17th, 2008 - 12:53am
It's absolutely amazing. A page-by-page recreation of the books (which are also fantastic), it's gorgeous, and astonishingly well-acted. I honestly thought, at first, since the movie is in French with subtitles (an English version is on the way, apparently) that a lot of it would get lost, but they do a astonishing job of recreating the mood, look and feeling of the original graphic novel. It's in incredibly limited release, I know, but if it's playing near you, I couldn't possibly recommend it more. I don't know if it'll win for Best Animated Feature over Ratatouille, but I can't imagine anyone arguing if it does.
I should have more to say, but I don't. It's all there to see. Go see it.

Glad you posted this - I've been wondering if it was worth the effort. Will definitely see it now.

Only theater in town showing it is on South Beach at 5 and 10. Hopefully I can make it on Tuesday to see it.

I've wanted to see this ever since it was first announced. I'm a huge fan of the books, and I'm glad to hear they translated well to the screen. Thanks for the heads-up, Pred.

I can't comment on the transition from graphic novel to film as I haven't read the originals, but the movie by itself stands strong. There really doesn't seem to be a great beginning, it's somewhat abrupt, and ends just as strangely. However if you have a chance, I definitely recommend seeing it.

I've been looking forward to this movie. I'm glad you reminded me. Maybe I'll think about it enough that I'll actually see it in theaters.
Video games don't ruin kids. If Pac-Man ruined us as kids, we would all be running around in darkened rooms, eating magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music.

Me and the girlfriend just got back from watching the movie. I went in not knowing anything about the movie except that pred liked it. I didn't even know it was animated or about Iran till I watched it. Very excellent surprise and would recommend it to everyone.

Glad to hear you liked it Edwin. It's really well-done, and probably the second most charming movie I've seen all year (#1 would be Interstella 5555). This is a definite first-day DVD buy for me.

This was assuredly our type of movie. The projector was shaking so I'd love to see this in HD.

So roller-skating nazis in gas masks beat out the Ayatollah? Hmm... Yeah, I'd say that's about right.

I got a chance to see this movie in the theaters and was quite impressed.
The auto-biography was compelling, brave and genuine. The animation and art style quite impressive. I also loved the cinematography and scene transitions.
Highly recommended.
Just arrived from Netflix. Looking forward to watching it tonight.
I saw this one in the local volunteer-run theater and I'm definitely getting the DVD. I love the dichotomy it explores between the very stylized animation and the fact that it's a true story. It's also way funnier than I expected.

It's out on Blu-Ray even, which is kind of surprising.
