For those who don't know, it's six anime short films designed to bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. It's supposedly going to be packaged with the special collector's edition version of BB on Blu-Ray in addition to being sold separately.

I'm pretty excited for it. Batman is really the only series that explores different art styles. The city scape's look really nice.

Don't suppose there's any chance, the DVD deluxe edition will be getting re-issued with this, is there?

Ahh if they are going to animate they need to goto the Batman Animated series crew the orginal. That has got to be some of th best stuff out there anywhere. They really got the whole Gothic Art Deco style down cold. Some of the shots of the animation look ok at best, and the wierd smooth Mask with the hooked nose looks kinda silly. But then I'm pretty hardcore fan of Batman art He is just badass

For me, the whole Bruce Timm art style is just played out... WB/DC milked that look for every animated show they produced for over 10 years, and I'm really just tired of it. I like getting different takes on the characters and different animation styles.

EDIT:

Watching the video, I find it kind of funny to listen to these guys try and tell me about anime. Timm's claim that Batman, as an antihero with no powers, is somehow more aligned with the Japanese idea of "superheroes" is kind of ridiculous (haven't they ever seen Shonen Jump??)... Batman is like a samurai because he is "looking for a master"? (technically, I guess that would make him a "ronin," wouldn't it?). Pretty tenuous... just say that "anime looks cool" and stop trying to justify this stuff guys!

In defense of Timm, I think here's referring to an older anime's, one's he's more likely to be familar with. Sure, there are still superpowered characters, but they're not as common then as they are now. Think Crusher Joe, Harlock, Tommorrow's Joe (man, alot of Joes!), etc.

But yeah, the samurai stuff from that bald guy with the goatee is a huge pile of BS.

Thanks for the link Rat Boy. This flew totally under my radar, and I cast a pretty wide net.

Some of the artwork and takes on the Batman mythos/world look fantastic. With Bruce Timm producing/directing and a couple of good writers I see on board (Alan Burnett in particular), I'm really looking forward to this.

I've always wondered what Batman would be like animated in the Japanese style. I have seen so many very cool anime in my year and some incredible dark and twisted stories that lend themselves style wise very well to the Batman story. I am very much looking forward to this project release. I don't know when I'm getting a Blueray player but I will certain get the DVD release of it when it comes out.

Anime Batman? Wouldn't that be "Big O"?

All kidding aside, the Batman anime shorts look pretty interesting, especially the "fat, blocky-looking" one, reminiscent of Mike Mignola's style. Although I know it's not Mignola, it looks like it's from Studio 4ºC, the folks who did the beautiful Tekkon Kinkreet.

I agree with SommerMatt-- the WB/DC art style that Batman: The Animated Series pioneered is too played out now. Although the "anime style" is almost as played out in the US as well (I'm looking at you, Ben10, Avatar, and... others whose names I don't know... ) -- that's why I like Michael Arias' and Studio 4ºC's latest work so much-- it's so different from the norm. As long as they don't maintain it with every new animation they make...

I thought the hooked-nose/smooth mask looked pretty interesting-- reminded me a little of Batman's powered armor in Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns", although it's obviously supposed to be his normal suit in the animation...

Is it just me, or does the Bruce Wayne sketches from that segment look almost spot-on for Christian Bale?

Ha! Wait.. is that a jab at me, or was that serious?

Sure, the new flick is based off of some of Miller's story, but I doubt Batman'll be duking it out with Superman in this one... According to "I Am Legend", that doesn't happen for another 2 years...

Regardless, I'm sure some of the sketches do look like him. Although the Bruce Wayne from the smooth helmeted Batman looked more like Yagami Light from Death Note than anyone else...

While Conroy is always the pivotal Batman voice in the WB cartoons, and I'm sure he'll be just fine in this new feature, I still wonder why they didn't bring Christian Bale on to do the acting for this project. Especially considering that this feature is tied more closely to "Dark Knight" than it is to any other Batman feature, I figured they were going to go the AniMatrix route even further and get the movie cast to voice the animations.

PS. Looking through the sneak peek featurette again, the helmet-Bats does look like a power-suit, so I concede. I hope they use it to good effect...

Am I the only one who thinks of Keaton as a more quintessential Batman voice?

Agreed, most likely yes, you're the only one. This is why I didn't like Batman as much in Justice League: New Frontier. He sounded like a dirty old man...

Sisto actually did better than I thought he would. For some reason, a lot of the voice cast fit with the 50's setting, except for David Boreanz as Green Lantern. Sounded like he was phoning it in most of the time.
