Mass Effect coming to the PC

Gee, you wonder if this has something to do with EA's purchase of Bioware. I only hope that the inventory and GUI improvements get patched into the 360 version.

I kind of assumed this would happen since Mass Effect was announced. Hopefully it will actually be optimized in some way, rather than simply thrown onto the platform while requiring 4GB of RAM and a processor that doesn't yet exist.
I had no doubt that this was coming to PC at some point, but am pleasantly surprised to see that it won't take a year or so.
Got my fingers crossed that they'll do the PC port justice. Sounds like this was a hell of a game.

But will Vista players be able to play against 360 players?
In all seriousness, I just started this on the 360 and I'm really enjoying it. The UI tweaks they mention, though ethereal at the moment, would be welcome.

I'm surprised that the PC version is coming out so soon. If the technical problems are sorted out I'd be tempted to buy ME again.

Yay!
Hopefully with some type of not throw you in the game world without any advice thing too.

Yeah maybe they figured out that releasing it on the pc while the fire is still sorta hot will generate more sales than waiting a few years until no one cares anymore.
All I can say is YESS!
This makes me happy, because it's going to be a while before I can afford a 360. The next console will probably be out by then.

In other words, the Gears of War syndrome. Man, if that had come out while the buzz was still... well, buzzing, I would have snatched it up in a heartbeat.

According to the article, it does sound like it's being optimized for the PC. The moderators at the BioWare forums seem to be saying it's being done in-house too, which was a bit of a concern for me.
It couldn't have happened at a better time. I was on the brink of breaking down and buying the 360 version because I just couldn't wait for the PC version, which I assumed would be at least another year away. Very happy to be playing it my first time on my preferred platform. Being a huge BioWare fanboy, this was the first of their game I hadn't purchased the day of release.

YES! LESBIAN ALIEN SEX GAMES! Wait I just saw the youtube vid.. damn... Well lets hope its not some sort of XB360 Emulator running an XB360 game that sucks down memory and runs like crap. I wish one of the consoles would just go pure windows that way they can Dev for PC and a console at the same time.

Here's hoping it runs on my pc, which is getting a little long in the tooth. My understanding is that UE3 scales down pretty well, though I don't have any personal experience with it. I have a 360, but have been holding out on getting the game because of all the control and interface complaints.

Awesome. I've been waiting for this to come out on PC. Heres to hoping the elevator issue is fixed because that did not sound like fun.

I knew it!!! Now if only they REALLY do make the UI PC friendly, I'd be a happy camper.

Assassin's creed has made me very wary of system requirement creep from console ports. Hopefully this one is more along the Gears of War level, which I thought was reasonable.

This is good news. The game looks worth a go, but not worth buying a console for. And while there are certainly a number of good console games that got ported, horribly, to the PC, I would bet that Bioware will do a decent job of it.

This begs the question, have EA changed? And if so, how much?

I would expect that Mass Effect would be more along the line of Gears of War considering they use the same engine.

Ditto. Mass Effect almost tempted me to but a XBox 360 and sink so far in the whole I'd have to sell my body for money. Glad I avoided that.

I think they are not adding another one but replacing the "Simon" one because it was more suited for a controller.
It's great news that more people are going to be able to enjoy this game.

As much as I would LOVE to play this game, I've been burned so many times by the console->PC ports that I think I'll mute my enthusiasm for this. I can't stand consolized GUIs to the point where I get literally enraged while trying to play a game like it. As you can imagine this serious diminishes my enjoyment of a given game.

Did you read the press release? They say the GUI is getting a complete overhaul for the PC release. I think you can be a little less skeptical, especially since it sounds like BioWare themselves are handling the conversion.

Judging by the screenshots, the GUI has been fairly thoroughly unconsolized. I see what appears to be a number of buttons for joyful mouse clicking.
I'm sorry, but where in that press release did you see that? All I saw was a few weak inferences that it's not going to be just a poor console port. Marketing phrases like "optimized controls designed specifically for the PC." could mean anything! "Fully customizable controls" as well. It could mean that they just do a poor console control scheme port and export the bindings to a text file for you to figure it out.
I wouldn't say that means that "the GUI is getting a complete overhaul for the PC".
