Movie Scenes that give/gave you Nightmares
So, I just watched the scene in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the newer one) where Violet Beauregard turns into a blueberry, and that was a seriously creepy scene. I started wondering how many kids got nightmares from that scene, which then got me thinking about what scenes gave me nightmares as a kid.
The only one I can come up with was The Wizard of Oz. Not any particular scene, really, it was just the Witch. She scared the crap out of me when I was a kid, probably until I was ten or twelve. Of course, that movie is now one of my favorite movies.
So, what movie scene(s) gave you all nightmares, or perhaps still do?

I used to have nightmares about the T1000 in Terminator 2.

That frigging clown from Poltergeist. Also the scene where the tree tries to eat the kid. Primo nightmare fuel.
"..when the chips are down these "civilized" people will eat each other. You'll see...I'll show ya."-The Joker
The first time I saw Robocop I couldn't have been more than 10 and that scene where they shoot officer Murphy to pieces always used to make me a little queasy. The close second being the Ed unit killing the business man.
Oh and remember the Flash show on tv? Remember that episode where the Flash fought kind of a mutant radioactive guy but the guy's face was all messed up? I used to have nightmares of him snatching me off of my top bunk.

Seconded. As a kid I used to have a ventriloquist dummy at the time in my room and he didn't last too long after watching the movie. I even did the same trick of throwing a blanket over him like the kid did in the movie. It got to the point where I ended up stuffing him in a drawer and that's where he stayed.
Other movies that come to mind would be the stomach bursting scene from Alien and the two little girls standing in the hallway in The Shining. Chiggie's mention of Flash also reminded me of the Flash Gordon movie (I'm pretty sure it was Flash Gordon anyway) with a scene where he had to stick his hand into a bunch of different holes in a tree or something and in one of them was some kind of insect that would sting him and he had to go one by one putting his hand in looking for something. I really can't recall the context, but that scene definitely gave me many nightmares of having to stick my hand into holes in trees and scared to death of being stung.
So, now all grown up, I can't think of any recent movies that had that kind of effect on me. The only one I can think of somewhat recently would be American History X. For anyone who has seen the movie I don't think I need to even describe the scene, but it was seriously messed up and haunted my dreams for weeks.

I was at a slumber party when I was - um, 9 I think? And we turned on the TV just in time to see the scene in Aliens where the queen alien rips poor Bishop in two, spraying his white guts everywhere. That gave me a few bad nights, let me tell you.

I remember the Toxic Avenger scaring me half to death when I was a kid. Specifically, the scene where the guy gets dumped into the toxic waste and then transforms into Ugly McFugly himself. After that, I cried my eyes out and sleep was ruined.
It's funny that you mentioned that scene from Willy Wonka... I have one guy on my Xbox Live friend list that would always say "Violet! You're turning violet, Violet!" when I joined him in Uno. For whatever reason, that made me laugh so hard everytime. I guess it's funny cause it's true. :/

1. The first bee attack sequence from The Swarm, but I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that I'm already phobic of stinging insects, so that didn't help matters any.
2. The Blob. I was petrified of that movie until I was in my 20's. I finally forced myself to sit down and watch it all the way through. I had a taste for Jell-O afterwards.
3. The scene where Sly Stallone drops Bonnie Bedelia off of the rope bridge in Cliffhanger. Ugh, *shudder*. I'm scared enough of heights, that damn scene gave me a full-blown panic attack. Watching the 2nd Ace Ventura movie, where they make a riff off of that? I was not pleased.
4. I was always scared when Wizard of Oz came on the TV when I was a kid. I didn't like the whirlwind scene, and the Witch was none too pleasant, either.

I just watched the last episode (12) of Six Feet Under, Season Four. So I'm still up because I'm trying to organize my life before I die. That and I think I'm going to have weird nightmares the moment I fall asleep.
In Ultima Online I used to poison hams and leave them on the ground in cities for people to pick up and eat. I can't believe how many people thought street ham was a good thing to eat. -Elliottx

I saw vampire movies before and after yet for some reason the thought of a vampiric Leslie Nielson made me cover my neck while sleeping.

Both are works by aphex twin.... the video for aphex twin - windowlicker and the art project "rubber johnny". Wicked stuff, both can be found on stage6 I think.
The Skesis from The Dark Crystal used to creep me out, even though I loved watching the movie. I never was afraid of any of the sci-fi monster movies from my youth, mainly I thought they were cool. I know there were horror creatures that creeped me out, but I can' really remember them, except that I didn't like Troll 2, though I can't remember anything else about it.
To this day, I still lose sleep to figuring out how to survive/escape from zombie outbreaks of varrying size. Romero style zombies that have no coordination, are slow, and can't learn.

I usually avoid this stuff like the plague, but the creepiest thing I ever saw was the real Ringu saga. A friend of mine brought three of them back from Japan and told us all we "had to see THIS!" all at once. I still won't own an unlabelled VCR tape, and I had to stop playing Shenmue II half way through because too many of the environments reminded me of it.

I think games are much scarier than movies because you're so immersed. When I played through bioshock, I basically only played it like 1 or 2 levels at a times and didn't really play after dark, hah.

When I was about 8 I insisted that my father take me to see a movie called "Grizzly". Since I grew up in a very rural setting seeing a movie about a homicidal bear seemed like a good idea at the time.
That movie gave me nightmares for the next 4 years. I don't remember it but by mother told me that I'd wake up screaming and shaking. The nightmares were so powerful that I can remember them completely to this day. It's like I had them last night.
The entire movie that was Last Holiday.

Three life altering events in my childhood (all 12 years old or less):
- I watched Southern Comfort at a sleepover with friends. I had nightmares for days.
- I went to see Jaws II with some portion of my family (teens at the time). The head falling out of the boat gave me nightmares for weeks.
- I watched American Werewolf in London on HBO with my father (who was just laughing and laughing at the show). I had night terrors for months.
I typically do not watch horror films of any kind now. Suspenseful movies (like those from M. Night Shyamalan) are about as far as I can go.
I get nightmares from the usual mix of movie scenes: Aliens popping out of chests, zombie stampedes, war-torn battlefields, etc. (I don't even try to watch "horror" movies anymore.) But when I was a little girl, I used to have terrible nightmares about...
The Little Mermaid. Specifically, Ursula's hypnotic, otherworldly boobs. Those things had a life of their own; incredibly bouncy, sometimes moving in different directions than their owner, and when Ursula's crawling on the ship deck after Ariel, it's like all you can see is Giant Octoboob. I used to have nightmares that I'd wake up an octopus woman. But it wasn't the tentacles that frightened me - it was the uncontrollable chest. Oh, I'm sure those old dreams were probably fueled by puberty and body image fears and what have you, but even now when I watch that movie, I still twinge a little when those possessed aquatic mammaries come on screen.

The one that pops into my mind first is the death scene of The Incredible Hulk, from the TV show (I think) where he falls out of a plane or a chopper or something. Now that I think about it, that may be the root of my fear of heights. If the Hulk can't even survive a drop, what about me?
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre kept me up at night the first time I saw it. None of the susequent ones seem as scary.
More recently, House of 1000 Corpses had me awake all night when I saw it. I've been wanting to rent Devils Rejects, but can't quite convince myself to go through that again.

Not too many movies have given me nightmares--plenty of scary games, but not too many movies.
The last one I really remember traumatizing me is the scene at the beginning of Star Wars when Darth Vader crushes the throat of that guy on the rebel ship. I was probably 5 or 6 at the time.
