I'm considering giving up on my long stated standard of playing a male character. Which of course would cause some naming issues Still what sex would people be playing?
It's still too early to start deciding how I'm going to play the game; It will just make me excited and then disappointed that release is still so far off.

I almost always play male characters. I probably still will. I'm thinking a Male Cimmerean (surprise, surprise)., but we'll see what class I decide I want to play and what the races look like in the character generator. Maybe there will be some super awesome looking female model that I can't help but play.

I don't understand the appeal of playing a character of the opposite sex, so I'll be male. As for character race, that really depends on class. So far no class in AoC or WAR appeals to me; I guess I have to wait to read some previews from third parties who cut through the devs' baloney and just tell us what the classes are like in familiar terms. I like flavor, but flavor doesn't tell me whether a Bard (not in AoC, I know) functions like a melee DPS with buffs, or a healer, or what. I gotta know that stuff nowadays!
Now back in the day, I created my characters more from flavor and confusion. I'm a 70 paladin today because I'm a cheeseball who likes paladin flavor, plus "strong melee character who can also heal himself? ZOMG!" And now I rarely heal myself, and my melee attacks are almost irrelevant.
On the other hand, my shaman was rolled because I liked the idea of dual-wielding and throwing in some damaging spells, resulting in godlike DPS.
Point? Uh...no point. I'm sure there are classes in these games for me. I just need the players to tell me "Necromantic Pyromancer = Warlock" or whatnot. Okay, that one's obvious. "Subterraean Guard = MS Warrior with cannibalize", maybe. Yes, I'm making these up.

If i do go female it'll probably be named Lorishan. Only time before this i thought of rolling up a female was in Lineage2. Some nice models there My class choice are pretty much always a reflection of how i want to fit into the lore.
Definitely female as I do understand the mentality of playing the opposite sex =)
The strong melee with heals seems to be the Bear Shaman, Fedaykin. There is also the dark templar that is strong melee with spells and life taps for healing.
My class preference right now lies with the ranger, tempest of set, dark templar or necromancer. I think the only classes that don't sound interesting to me but I will probably end up playing are:
priest of mithra, bear shaman, guardian
Alt classes are: demonologist, assassin, herald of xotli
maybe classes are: conqueror, barbarian
edit: Oh and one of my favorite alt names is Andalyn.

I'm not planning to play AoC, but I do tend to sway from male to female avatars depending on the game. If I'm reading a book, I tend to get more enjoyment out of reading about female heroes than with male heroes. So if I'm playing a game to feel like I'm having some epic journey through a land, I'll tend to create female characters. If I'm just playing to waste some time, or playing hacky-slashy games, it could go either way.
In WoW, either way, I'll create a female avatar simply because I can't stand how most of the males look, especially on Alliance side. Why does every male in that game have to be on freakin' steroids? I'm a mage damnit... I'm not trying to pummel my foes with nearby oak trees.
As someone who plays Female avatars And is male I would likely play a male in AOC just given the general state Of females In Mr Howards world Even the most dangerious Female warrior tends to go all Weak kneed For Mr Conan Sooo Male it will be for me

In AoC, gender actually matters, so I'd likely stick with male. I'll sometimes play female chars in other games (Zeletria, my main in WoW, is female), but that's from the 'if you're going to stare at something all day, it might as well look good' school of thought. When it will likely effect how interaction with the world and other characters, I'll stay in my actual gender, thank you very much.
yeah, gotta go with male char given the vibe/homoerotic overtones. Weird, considering that I'm a chronic cross-gamer. Not that there's anything wrong with that..
Unless there's an actual difference in game mechanics, or I feel like checking out how the male avatars animate vs. the female avatars, it really doesn't matter much to me one way or the other.
I will second that the male characters in WoW look universally oversized. What I wouldn't give for a CoH level of customization in that game.
Sometimes, if you wanna save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.
All of my avatars are always female. Every once in a while, I will roll a male.
Makes me feel weird though. One time, I met this younger guy (around 20) while out adventuring in LOTRO. Well, we grouped together for a bout 2 weeks or so, and we only typed, never chatted. The conversation of gender never came up. I started to feel kind of odd about it...like, at what point do I 'come out' to him and let him know I'm a 34 year old woman? I just wondered if it would creep him out if he knew.

It might. Then again he might not be a tool.

I normally play female avatars, which mainly started back in AC when I could garner free stuff from people, and since then, it has stuck as I generally roll up a girl. Hey, if I have to objectify something I stare at for hours on end, it might as well be some cute pixellation.
Well, Cooking Mama didn't help me become a better cook, and Trauma Center certainly didn't help me become a better surgeon. I have the proof of both sitting in my freezer. -- imbiginjapan
I play female for almost everything, except if the female will be horrendously ugly. For instance, on WoW, I play horde so my paladin is female (blood elf), my mage and priest are female (undead), but my hunter is male because orc females are too ugly for me.
I'm not really a girl. I just play one in video games. My WotLK Beta Blog Elysium wrote:

I tend to like the hybrid classes - Shaman's and any Assassin type. I usually always have a Paladin alt and a mage - they all have a nice goatee - my wife - well and the Navy wont let me grow one, but they sure look good on a hard core medieval can of whoop a$$.

Hmm, well WoW is alluring.
And I am jealous of these NDA's and what not.
I may not make it but I hope to play a male character.

Well Ranalin if you do play as a female, please let us know what your character's name is. I'll mark it down as one less "female" to cyber with.
I'm interested in when they bring out a 3rd sex, perhaps a trans gendered option or a eunuch.
