Metal Gear Solid 1/2/3 on the PS2?

Probably a PSOne disc pressing but who know?

Quote:
On Friday, CAG Halo5 posted his find of a new Metal Gear Solid collection via Play-Asia and many CAGs rejoiced at the news of a value priced MGS bundle. Now, thanks to an anonymous tipster, we have scans [1, 2] of what appear to be a Konami fact sheet. A March 18th release date is planned, as is a $29.99 MSRP, and a "national PR campaign focused on value conscious consumers". Psst, Konami...may I be so bold as to suggest a lengthy advertising campaign right here on CAG?

It's still unkown why US retailers do not yet have this bundle up for pre-order.

An absolute steal for someone who hasn't played these glorious games. I'm interested in seeing how the Playstation classic holds up on the stronger PS2.

Hmm... At that price, it's very tempting. Heck, MGS2: Substance alone goes for 30 bux on eBay!.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is highly playable with the new camera controls. I loved it!

Yeah, it's scary. I'm staring into the abyss right now, and it's staring into me, which I think is kind of a dick move on the abyss's part. - Nyles

Awesome! I will admit that while I'm a fan of the NES games and MGS.. I haven't played MGS 2 or 3 yet. This will be my chance! I'm hoping MGS is actually a PS2 version, perhaps similar to the release on the Gamecube.

This'll be a definite pick up for me as I've been wanting a copy of Subsistence and MGS1 for some time. I'm pretty positive that MGS1 is simply a pressing of the PS1 game, not a port to PS2. If I remember correctly this collection was released a while ago in Japan for the whole Metal Gear Solid 10th Anniversary thing.

I own MGS 2 and 3 (not Subsistence but I still beat it which makes me like 10x more hardcore ) and Twin Snakes for Gamecube but I'll still be grabbing this. It'll be nice to have the updated versions.

I definitely have to pick this up once it's released mainly because I want MGS 2 Substance and since it's so expensive on it's own plus I really like the cover art, but it seems definitely worth the price.

If you look closely, you'll notice the case for the the first Metal Gear Solid says Playstation at the top, while the other two say Playstation 2. So, yeah, it's the PS1 version.

Meaning it's still a PS2 game, but just the original PSX title put into a DVD PS2 box and made to run on the updated hardware.

I don't get what you mean. Yeah, it's the original PS1 title put in a PS2-style DVD case, but what do you mean by "it's still a PS2 game" and "made to run on the updated hardware". There's no need to make the original game compatible with PS2, as it already would be. You know, with the whole backwards compatibility. If it was the original game pressed onto a PS2 DVD, then the case it comes in would say Playstation 2 rather than simply Playstation, as the PS2 would be the only hardware it would work on. It makes more sense to have the original PS1 CD in the case so that it can run on both types of hardware.

Unless it was updated so that the save data could be saved directly to a PS2 card, which I suppose would make the most sense. So, yeah, maybe I'm stupid.

I hope that's the case. I've still got PS1 memory cards, but not everyone's a pack rat like I am. Can you imagine getting this bundle and not being able to save? It's not like PS1 memory cards are still in stores

[EDIT]: I just called my local EB and they still don't have a listing in their system for it.

It just makes sense for it to be a port of the PSX version on the Playstation 2 instead of it being a Playstation 1 game (meaning it can run on the old Playstation systems). They haven't made PSX games in forever anyway, so why start again?

Oogaba.

Yeah, I suppose, except that simply taking the old game and burning some new CDs is probably easier than porting the code to PS2. Unless the disc was actually just the PS1 code with an emulator right on the disc. That's probably the most likely.

Has there been an official announcement for North America? I don't mind pre-ordering from Play-Asia, but that would mean more waiting time to get the game

I already own MGS2 for the Xbox and MGS3 (not subsistance) for the PS2, but the price is right and it will be nice to have the "full" versions of each game on one system.

Eh, I think I'd rather keep my rosy memories of the games than play them again now that it's been so long since I was accustomed to the odd controls.

Plus I bought a PS3 with no backwards compatibility.
