Luna, the first time I tried it, the same thing happened. Hell, it even changed my beard. The second time, I selected the "customize" option, and it worked fine.

In-game, my hunter alt looks impossibly ridiculous; he has a man-bra with his gut kinda poking out. He looks like he should live in a dwarven trailer park somewhere and drink way, way too much. I still snicker when I see him on the login screen.
Sadly, their renderer doesn't capture that at all... he looks almost respectable.

Hehe, I didn't realize that it polls the Avatar website every time you access the thread.
On the one hand, when things are working correctly your avatar will always reflect your current gear, but on the other hand (as is the case today), if there's a problem accessing WoW armory, you get nekkid, trans-species toons.
Case in point, my Dwarf Hunter (who displayed correctly when I loaded him), is now a nekkid Human.
