I grabbed this off PlayStation Network last night and I have to say it's ridiculous good fun. It's incredibly straightforward, and it varies from Desktop Tower Defense in just subtle ways that make the game more engaging, not in horrific "let's make it BETTER and fail" ways.

The main differences are:

- You have to actually send a dude around collecting the gold from dead invaders. This makes the game far less "set up and watch" and much more tactical, as in many levels you need to make sure you take out baddies, collect loot, then run to the other end of the map and build new towers.

- There's a research component. Instead of just buying upgrades, you have to collect drops (gems) and use them to research new towers by running home (the place the monsters are headed). Those same gems are your only way of upgrading your towers as well, so resource management can be a real issue.

I have to admit, I'm a sucker for casual games on consoles. I've easily spent more time in XBLA than I have playing top-tier titles, and I actually hope my experience with the PS3 is the same way.

Is there a demo, or is this another "Trust us and buy the game!" PSN title? Do you remember how much it cost? It sounds pretty cool.

Yeah, it's scary. I'm staring into the abyss right now, and it's staring into me, which I think is kind of a dick move on the abyss's part. - Nyles

I've been eying this game myself but I just hate the lack of demos on PSN.

I agree it's definitely one thing that drives me crazy about PSN, the lack of arcade demos.

Add to that the fact that I bought PixelRacers when it went on sale and I was sorely disappointed.

So this is only playable ON the PS3, right? Can't download it and play it on my PSP, can I?

I just picked it up myself and I've been enjoying it thoroughly. Good, good fun. I've heard that if you have your PSP set up to remote play then you can enjoy it wherever wifi will let you.

As for the demo situation... I would always prefer a demo (and often they've gotten me to pick up games I would never be interested in otherwise) but to stipulate that I won't buy a game (small or large) without a demo is artificially limiting the amount of games available for my playing enjoyment. I treat small PSN titles just like any game I'm interested in, do some research, get some other peoples opinions and then roll the dice. If it's great "woohoo" if it sucks, "oh well, better luck next time."

Anyways back to the game at, I think if you enjoy tower defense games at all then this is 8 bucks well spent. It's got a good presentation, nice game mechanics and a ton of replayability (especially if you want to try to beat the levels perfectly, a challenge which lies just out of my grasp most of the time).

I hate you soo much Phil Collins!

It's $7.99 for a limited time then the price will go up, or you can only play it for a day then it expires?

The price will eventually go up.

Ok picked this up a couple of days ago and have to say I love the game. Has anyone else noticed that prolonged game time makes your eyes feel like they are bleeding? With moderation this game is well worth the 7.99, actually I would likely pay more having played it.

I recall hearing straight from Q Games in a 1Up interview at GDC that an expansion was coming for this and solid info has just now started to materialize. Gamespot has the word. The expansion will be taking place on a separate island from the first game and feature 15 new levels with some more daring layouts as well as tweaked gameplay (very slight tweaks from the sound of it.) Expect this to drop in late April, no word on price but I can't imagine it going for less than $5. I'm pretty excited for this as Monsters was one of the main games to push me to a PS3.
