This is a new game for people who may be in other games but just can't get enough.

I'm just warning you, if I get fired for this I may end up putting more hours into Civ than even you. In which case you'd just be facilitating your own downfall.

I would actually prefer to start new in a third game than pick up the abandoned civ in game two (so I can use my own strategy rather than cobbling together something from someone else).

Nope! Because I won't be in this one. I find it very hard to wait so long between turns. Being in one 24-hour pitboss game is stressful enough.

Well, we've certainly got enough people, with room for another, it looks like. Next up:

Can anyone host? I can try but my router is a little sketchy lately, so if someone has a good connection that someone is probably a better candidate. Plus I don't want to have to do a household teach-in on "the importance of keeping this particular computer running at all times even if it doesn't look like it's being used."

Unfortunately my router/netconn is far too flaky to be a reliable host.

I'd be up for more turns.

I tried and failed to get hosting permissions from the misses the first time around and that was a no go, or I'd definitely be hosting.

Update.

I've talked to yoyoson about hosting a second game on his server and he thinks it's possible to host two games concurrently (he's already hosting GWJ 2). The only question is whether civstats will work with two concurrent games.

I went ahead and randomized the list of interested parties so that we can go ahead and start picking civs. I included Yoyoson since he's agreed to host but am not sure if he wants to play or not. Let's pick in the order at the top, i.e. it is now Atras' turn to pick.

I thought we could use the same settings as GWJ 2 except perhaps we want to look at map size. Scaphism suggested that the game might get more interesting more quickly if we used a smaller map. I say we might as well give it a shot, but post what you think and if there's a huge outcry against we can consider alternatives.

Okay, with the help of Atras and Lampshade, and with the unknowing aid of Johnnypolite, we have confirmed that it is not only possible to have multiple games, but Civstats is intelligent enough to support both simultaneously. Atras and Lamp and I played through approximately 5-6 turns on a test server and it seems to be running like gravy.

Also, I have decided that I would like to play in Game 3. I like the smaller map idea and the settings from Game 2. I say we set the turn timer to 22 hours at first. This should make it act like a 24-hour timer.

These are the Game 2 settings, copied from Atras's original post:

Map: Big and Small
Size: Large
Climate: Temperate
Sea Level: Medium
Starting Age:Ancient
Normal Continents with Islands Mixed In
Simultaneous Turns
Take Over AI
Turn Timer = 24 hours

Players: All at Noble

Can we get a map type/size/setting in the meantime?

I thought I'd throw my suggestion in the hat while it's being considered:
Quick Speed (other game is taking a long time)
Hemispheres (2 landmasses) or Continents
Standard Size/Normal Sea Level or Large Size/Low Sea Level

I am definitely interested if there is room for another!

I am pretty flexible on maps as long as its not one of the maps with a totally symmetrical shape. I think those are boring.

Ramesses of Egypt, I choose you!

I think we should let Kier join, go Large map (should be good for 14 players), Normal water levels, Quick speed, everything else just like Game 2.

I added absurddoctor in at no. 15. The map in Game 2 could definitely hold more civs than it does without making gameplay ridiculous. I also don't think it makes a difference whether we have 12 or 15 civs in terms of whether everyone will move before the timer runs down.

Also, civ selection will go faster if you post your pick in the thread even if it's not your turn. Obviously the further down the list you are the more likely you will not get your first pick, but in picking games 1 and 2 I think people did what they could to make sure everyone got their pick.

Yup, and I figure the more the merrier, as that just adds to the chaos. We can always move up a map size if we need to make space for more civs.

I just got BtS for Civ 4, and would love to play with you guys, but I have no idea how this pitboss stuff works, nor am I any good at multiplayer Civ.

I don't think any of us care about that as long as you make your turns on time. There's a broad range of Civ experience among the people in these games. And at one turn a day, you may find you've become quite a bit better by the time it matters.
