Well, at least it isn't a game I already bought. Details through the link below, including the limited timeframe to get Undertow.

UPDATE: And yes, I know there is a thread floating around about this already but I can't seem to find it.

I mean if you bought it you call MS and they will most likely refund you your points and you get a game of your choice. Sounds win/win to me.

Atrocity? Anger? Really? I mean, sure, it'd kinda suck if you already have Undertow (which seems to have gotten decent reviews) but beyond that I'm not really following where the outrage is coming from.

Fixed. And I think people are mad because they wanted Ikaruga or REZ, or at least a game that wasn't already out. Makes it feel like they're tossing us something that's already made most of the profit it's going to.

We all expected some kind of reimbursement because the service we paid for wasn't working properly. Giving everyone the same game whether they like it or not isn't acceptable IMO. I don't want it because I played the demo and thought it was horrible. Whoever wanted Undertow bought it already so what will they get? What about those who currently have no system because it's being replaced? How are they suppose to get the game?

Giving everyone 800/400 MS points or some type of code that could allow users to choose any game for the same amount would've been the best options.

Oh well.

Yes, give us points. I tried Undertow and it's a horrendous game.

I can see that. It would have been nice if they at least said something like "Here's a list to pick from" but I never really thought they'd do points simply because points are pretty darn close to real money. 800 points is $10 and that's $80,000,000 they'd be giving out. Sure it's just points but some stockholder somewhere would make a stink about MS not writing that money off as a loss. That's a headache they're just not going to get into over what is a story that, mainstream press wise, hasn't gotten a lot of coverage.

Don't know what version of Live you were playing but I was playing almost just fine during the outage, sure it was slower then normal and it had it's hiccups but it wasn't unplayable.

Congratulations. Others among us couldn't play anything, couldn't accept game invites from friends, or any number of other issues. Some people couldn't sign in at all.

I'm skimming, but if you've already purchased Undertow, according to gamerscoreblog(?) call customer service and tell them and they will "take care of you"...

And come on, who was really inconvenienced by the outage to the point of outrage and anger? It was annoying, sure, but oh well.

I understand the annoyance with the outage. However:

True, and they've provided "some kind of reimbursement." Something that they contractually do not have to do, of course. They were just shooting for a bit of goodwill. Just don't forget that they provide no service-level guarantees at all.

I keep thinking about August 14th 2003, when almost the entire Northeast power grid turned off because of, rogue squirrel cells or somesh*t.. No compensation there, and we pay money for power.

How much did you pay for the period of the blackout itself?

Beat me to it.

Anyway, I think the easiest way to please everyone was with a free 1 month subscription to make up for the downtime.

My 360 is out for repair thanks to the RRoD. I am sure I won't have it back by the time the free download is over, what options might I have (if any)? Even if it's not the greatest game, it's free and it's one I don't own

Sign in with your gamertag on a friend's 360 and download the game. Then re-download it on your console once you get it back.

Well, let's see.. 2 weeks of bad Live cost $2.49 (compensated by a $10 game), and one day without electric would have been around $1.65 (compensated by "We're sorry"). Not a big difference in my book with regards to what the outtages cost.
