Advice Needed: (Creative Types) Music project 'name'
I've come to really respect a lot of you - there are a lot of creative writers here, musicians, and fun-loving people. So I thought I'd post a query in hopes of getting some good ideas...
I'm going to be reviving my solo-musical pursuits this year, and will additionally be starting up a new website to promote said music, and to share some of my writings as I explore the Way of the Bard. In short, I'm looking for a 'name' for my project, because my real name doesn't really have much of a ring to it...shall we say...
Here's a quick rundown of history and present:
* Original solo project name was "West". This is actually part of my first name and still my favorite name. In checking BMI and ASCAP, as well as various domain registrars, it seems like using that name may, at some point, become a legal issue if I attempt to pursue something commercially.
* I've started studying Celtic traditions, music, and mythology, including the path of the Bard. It would be cool if somehow I could represent that in the name (e.g. something Welsh or Gaelic)
* The meaning of my first and middle names are, respectively: Man from the West meadow, and Man from the Hills. I was thinking something like "From the West Hills" - but that doesn't roll off the tongue...
I guess that's about it for now. Let me know if you have ideas, or if you want more info.

"Cacophony of the West".
Zing! I knew I'd get a few comedians in here - congrats on being the first! You'll be here all week I presume?
Why not go with the name of the classic Irish play, "Playboy of the Western World"? Kind of fits with what you said about your name, plus it sounds cool.

Is your name Wesley Bredon?

Close.
The middle name can also mean 'steep hill' or 'fiery hill'.
Sunset Hill(s)
Sunset Highland(s)
Hmmm, have to mull it over.

What's wrong with "Man from the West Meadow"? Or just "West Meadow".... sound's kinda arty to me - also rural; hinting at traditional influences in your music?
"Caer West" would be my official suggestion

Hmmm...I like that idea of combining a Gaelic or Welsh word with 'West' somehow...Thanks!
Also - I did think about Metallica. But then I was like, "No, that's too weak. It should be something like Slayerf*ckINGTallicThrax..." Doesn't quite roll off the tongue though...

Bard of the Sunset Hills, perhaps? Or, if it's a group, The Sunset Bards.

"The Absentee" is another option. How about "Wild Irish Girl" while you're at it?
If you give me a week to dig through my Heaney and Yeats, I should have some fun suggestions. Or you could do it yourself, lazy ass.

Hey - I've been diggin' ya bastich! Stick it up yer Sally Garden!
Meanwhile - some cool words I'm considering:
Ceol - Gaelic for 'music'
File (FEE-la) - Irish for bard
And I can't seem to find a solid, single transcription of the word 'west' in Gaelic...too many variants!
Ceol and the Gang
More than a Fileing
Just throwing those out there.

I concur with Podunk. Thread over.
If you mix "west" and "Welsh", you get "Welsht"
I think that's pretty cool.

Well Sh*t?
unfortunately that was the first thought when i read it, sorry:(
Well, I think I've finally decided that I'm sticking with West. Since it is my given name (first four letters anyway), it would be really difficult for someone to try to take me to court over trademark/copyright stuff. And I have found the perfect domain for it, too.
Stay tuned for some more updates.
You could name it after that Dr. Evil thing. What was that?
Oh, The Alan Parsons Project.

I guess that means I can take this off my to-do list. That's good, because it was a pain to have to keep postponing it.

Yes - feel free to remove it from the list, smythe. Thanks for all your dedicated and difficult non-work.
