WoW: Gearing a Druid tank @ lvl 70.
Ok, so I told RichyRambo (aka Artesia/Cyrana in game) That I would post some links to some easy druid tanking loot that can be found pre kara/pre heroics. So here is a quick list from memory on what can be found. There have been post like this in the past, but I could not find it when searching the forums (probably way far back).
Helms:
Exorcist's Dragonhide Helm 18 spirit shards from Auchidoun area instances. Thats not that many runs.
Cowl of the Guiltless Drops off last boss in Black Morass. 17% drop.
And of course there are the PVP helms and engineering helms.
Necklace:
Mark of the Ravenguard Quest reward from here.
Strength of the Untamed Rep reward from Cenarion Expedition.. revered.
Shoulders:
Shoulderpads of Assassination Drop from Sethekk Halls. Can be socketed for tons of stamina.
Sun-Gilded Shouldercaps Drop from Black Morass. Not a bad alternative, less stamina and armor than assasination.
Cleansed Fel Pauldrons Quest reward, not the best in terms of tanking stats, but probably the best blue Kitty dps shoulder item in the game. If you want to use this for both sets it would be ok, but at least get this for your kitty dps set.
Chest, Pants, and Boots: Strength of the Clefthoof Very easy to get, many guildies can make them for you. You will use these until tier 4.
Wrist: Umberhowl's Collar.. period. High armor + decent feral stats. Its a quest reward.. I will help any feral druid complete this.
Hands:
Verdant Gloves You wont replace these until tier 4. Look at the armor. Quest reward, pretty long but I will help anyone who wants this.
Belt:
Manimal's Cinch Its a green but look at the armor. Its a level 114 green so its pretty powerful. This will not be replaced until a heroic ramparts drop, or buying the Belt of Natural Power Mine cost me 1200 gold plus the mats.
Rings:
Anything with armor, defense, agility, and or stamina. Examples:
Iron Band of the Unbreakable
Mok'Nathal Clan Ring
Elementium Band of the Sentry
Wind Trader's Band
Trinkets:
Anything with a lot of stamina, or a lot of defense, or a lot of armor, or a combination of these. I use two stamina trinkets but if you need defense you should put that in here.
Weapons:
#1 goal should be http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29171]Earthwarden. It takes a lot of runs through steam vaults but is it worth it for all the stats. Most other feral staffs do not have defense and high stamina like this unless you are in a 25 man way above what we run.
Some good quest rewards for dps/kitty/staff if you dont have Earthwarden:
Fleshling Simulation Staff
Staff of Beasts
And of course the pvp weapon Gladiator's Maul is disgusting for PvE, the resilience helps in tanking if you are not at 415 defense, and takes 27,000 armor and 40 losses in AV (since we are alliance and no one wins AV anymore in alliance in our battlegroup).
Idols:
Idol of the Wild
Idol of Brutality
Other idols are either A. Tied to heroics or B. Not too useful in bear form.
Goals:
#1. 415 defense. If you have 3 ranks in Survival of the Fittest then you only need 415 defense to become uncrittable, or a combination of defense less than 415 and some resilience.
#2. High armor. Higher the better.
#3. High stamina.. this is obvious.
#3. Dodge. Remember agility is better than dodge rating for druids. The calculation for dodge is ~16.5 agility per 1% dodge, or ~25 dodge rating for 1% dodge. Plus agility gives you crit rating and a small boost in armor.

I'd also like to point out the Stylin' Purple Hat as an excellent, easy-to-purchase headpiece. High armor, and tons of stamina and agility -- no strength, unfortunately, but it's still very good, and it's very easy to find.
That maul is a big deal. I just switched over to that in my tanking gear, after arranging other stuff.... I dropped back to 17k armor, but my dodge went up substantially, and my hit power went up ENORMOUSLY.... well more than double. With the +35 agi to that weapon, it will add about 950 feral attack power all by itself. For DPS, it's your one-stop shop, and if you can juggle your other pieces around to make up for the lack of the armor on Braxxis' Staff of Slumber, I suspect it will let you generate a lot more threat while tanking. (unproven as yet.)
Obviously Earthwarden is better, but CE exalted takes awhile.
I'd love to do the run into Arcatraz for the Verdant Gloves, btw.
edit: couple minor fixes.
Crap I forgot a cloak!
Thoriumweave Cloak
Get that one in Mech off the first boss.
I forgot about that.. That is a great piece to start with!
