Munchkin game: Any set/expansion recommendations?
Sunday, January 13th, 2008 - 11:11pm
A while ago I bought the introductory set of the Munchkin card game by SJGames as a lunch time diversion for my coworkers & I. Since then, it has become hugely popular and we usually play several times a week. I'm thinking of purchasing an entirely new set or one of the expansions for the core fantasy set just to keep the game fresh and was wondering if there were any other GWJers who have experienced the enjoyment of slaying a Plutonium Dragon and might have played the other sets.
Thank in advance for any suggestions! ![]()

I was introduced to Munchkin by a friend a few months ago, and I have to say that it is probably the most fun I've had with a card game to date. All of the expansions, with the possible exemption of the vampire-related one, have been nothing but pure gold. Gnome wizards for life!

The Cthulhu/Lovecraft expantion was pretty fun. Not sure how well it meshes with other sets though.

I don't think I've seen that one at my now defunct game store. I'll have to check that out once I find a new place to go to.

I just started getting back into Munchkin myself with a few friends from my roommate's workplace. Now there is a game that is a blast to play. I was just going to purchase a couple of the core Munchkin expansions to give them a tryout as we are starting to tire of some of the cards that show up a lot, although we could use some more copies of Chicken on Your Head, or Duck of Doom
Oh, by the way, here's their website for info about the game, and their forums is a great place to ask questions as there is a solid community for the game there. http://www.sjgames.com/munchkin/game/

I have just about every single expansion for Munchkin at this point. My wife's brother works for SJ Games and so that's a standard Xmas present from him to me.
I like the Core Munchkin and I have two fantasy expansions. The Space (Star Munchkin) and (Munchkin Fu) Kung Fu ones are funny and fun. The Gothic one (Munchkin Bites!) is humorous for us White Wolf vampire fans.
I don't have Munchkin Impossible or Super Munchkin.

If geek levels are unevenly matched in your group, Muchkin Fu is highly recommended. Its clichés are more easily grasped by a 'mainsteream brain'. Otherwise, any traditional expansion set to Munchkin fantasy makes sense, but beware: Each of those expands the length of the average session.
And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.
We originally played with core and it was fun. When we added Munchkin Fu, it got even more crazy and fun. My friend just got Cthulhu Munchkin and I hope to play that soon.

Uhhhh.... All of them.
We've got the original set with the expansion pack, Muchkin Fu, the pirates one, the super hero one, the James Bondy one, Munchkin Cthulhu, and we bought the Blender Pack which lets you do fun stuff like pit the pirates against the kung fu guys.
