So looks like Resistance 2 has been announced:

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/845/845049p1.html?RSSwhen2008-01-11_113800&R...

- 60 players online
- class based multiplayer
- 8 player online co-op (2 players split screen)
- seperate single and multi-player co-op campaigns
- partially randomized geometry

First game was great the additions to the co-op play look great. I wasn't really all that into the multiplayer but it could be cool.

It can have all of the features it wants, but the problem with the first game is that the fundamental act of shooting bad guys was just very unsatisfying. It lacked weight and impact, it felt more like shooting someone with a squirt gun.

That's just based off playing the demo, I didn't play the full game and get to the later weaponry. The demo failed to interest me enough to even rent the game from GameFly.

I hope to god this is better than the first one. I don't know how it scored so high, because it was one of the most boring FPS's I have played in a while. Can't speak for the multi-player since I haven't played it, but apparently it is good. Unfortunately the same people that said this said the single player campaign was fun.

Lobster Mobster:I find that f*cking a nice stinky cheese is an experience everyone should have at least once in their life.

Personally I thought the demo sucked, the multi-player sucked, but the single player was good once you got a bit further into the game.

Man, I couldn't agree more, and I did play the full version of the game about two thirds of the way through. I just kept waiting to see one of the "super awesome weapons" the press was going on about, but nothing ever even started to interest me (let alone felt good to shoot).

Also, I found the art direction very unappealing, but that's more of a personal preference sort of thing.

I can't wait to see what happens if they fail to deliver on this one. Sixty player multiplayer, and 8 player co-op is a tall order.

It's should be possible... GRAW/2 had 16player co-op, although it never worked, but Resistance 2 has one advantage... Dedicated Servers. At any time 16players join the game in GRAW/2... half would drop on xLive.

So, I guess all the people that play their PS3s online can get on a single server at once.

Ok, haterade aside, I'll be pretty impressed to see what the final product actually looks like. If they can pull those promises off and run a steady 60fps then they'll have a huge opportunity with the FPS crowd.

You summed up exactly why GameStop became the owner of my GR:AW 2 copy very rapidly. There's no excuse for such shoddy networking. I had problems keeping 4 player co-op games afloat, even when all players were in California on fast cable connections. Someone would just drop despite having great connection speed with the host.

Rainbow Six: Vegas managed 16 players decently. It certainly wasn't perfect, but I played a whole lot of 16 player R6:V and that simply wasn't possible in GR:AW 2. And COD4 makes GR:AW 2 look shameful (COD4's own issues aside).

Is this really a good thing? On occasion, I've played in huge Battlefield games that really made the large player number work, but those games are designed to be big. What in Resistance actually justifies a huge player number? It works in BF with groups of people in vehicles and such, but if it's just 60 people running around on the ground shooting assault rifles, I don't think more = better.

I rented Resistance a while back and strangely enough, I quite enjoyed it. It definitely wasn't the best FPS I ever played but considering it was Insomniac's first attempt at any game like that, they did very well with it. I didn't play a lot of online because most of that community (which is still large) is extremely good at it by now and I got consistently slaughtered. It definitely looks like they're taking that formula and polishing it up for the sequel which is cool. Online co-op will definitely be a lot of fun.

Wha wha wha!!! More is ALWAYS BETTER. DUDE.

ALWAYS.

I actually totally agree. I play CoD4 on the PC, and try and avoid and server with more then 24 slots. It loses any tactical fun with that many people in a the maps they ship with. That being said, I've had some great times playing 64 player matches in the original MP for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It was crazy, but still fun, and was infantry only. More players isn't always better, but I'm sure if they're shooting for 60 player online, then they're designing their maps and game types for it as well.

I don't know whether to find it funny or sad that you seem to be apologizing for liking this game (which earned a very respectable 86% from metacritic).

Perfect Dark Zero has an 81% on Metacritic. A lot of launch titles get inflated ratings that they don't deserve.

be that as it may... liking this game isn't something to be ashamed of or apologize for the "confessional" aspect might be more appropriate if he was saying he enjoyed a game that had been universally panned.

I'll just blame it on the haterade.

Each level should be a religiously offensive location. The Vatican, a mosque, a synagogue. They'd get tons of publicity for it.

I probably would have liked the game more if the first 20 min werent so generic and feature some of the worst level design in a supposed AA Title.. Shame because most people said it did get better.

Wow, the 1up show details on this game show show some pretty cool features, multiple classes in the 8 player co-op mode is pretty nice, i heard them mention medic, spec-ops, support, soldier. Haven't seen this mentioned before.

Decent game, not a halo killer for sure but decent. I'm totally looking forward to the sequel, I'm kinda interested in the story and would like to see how it all plays out. Insom hasn't made a "bad" game in my eyes so I have a good feeling about R2.
