Neuromancer the movie

Looks like they've settled on an actor. I thought the movie was dead or at least on hold due to the strike, but who knows now.

Who cares about who is playing Case. Who is playing Molly is the important question in my mind. And how they are going to handle the visual effects of scenes set in the matrix.

Well, everyone sucked in the Star Wars prequels, so maybe he isn't beyond hope with an actual director overseeing him, but he sure was very bad in Ep III, which is the only movie I've seen him in. Not a good start for this. (At least it isn't Keanu.)

Is there a version of the vomiting smiley where there's another vomiting smiley next to him, and they're vomiting into each other's mouth? That would sum this up well.

Seriously though, they have a chance to do something cool with the matrix. Some 8-bit snesibility would be appreciated. Probably it ends up looking like a music video.

Quite good actually. This movie redeemed him some in my eyes and made me think of him more as a Lucas puppet for the prequels.
I think he fits. It doesn't take much to make him look grizzled.
That all lies with the director who's Joseph Kahn, which as far as i know the only thing he's done is Torque. Torque is one of those bad movies that i love because it was just so in your face, and that type of bravada in film making with the right material can pull off miracles. On the other hand it can also splat in the sh*tter just like Torque.

Wait, wait, wait....the director is the guy who did that motorcycle movie with Ice Cube? That Torque? Never mind then. Back to ignoring this project again.

I agree. Shattered Glass showed that he's an excellent actor, but it's clear that Star Wars really trashed his image in the public mind. Somehow Natalie Portman escaped, probably because people knew more about her going in.
If it's dead, it's probably me.
If it's my blog, it's probably here.
I thought the same thing at first (oh god not Darth Vader!), but then I thought "I saw Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta and she was really good. What did Lucas do to force her to not act in Star Wars?" so maybe it's the same for him.

I saw Christensen in Factory Girl, and he wasn't very good.
He's never very convincing. Always end up looking like someone who's trying to learn how to act.
But I'll probably end up watching the movie anyway. That's just how I roll.

I find it hard to imagine this being a good adaptation. Neuromancer seems belligerently difficult to turn into a movie. So much of what I like about it is tied up in the prose. You generally don't see what happens in the action sequences, and cutting to Molly with a broken leg and a pile of dismembered corpses next to her is so much cooler than anything they could conceivably show. And how can they get Hideo right? His stillness, the feeling of his every step being part of a beautiful dance? It might be a good film, it might be called Neuromancer, but it won't be Neuromancer. I saw Johnny Mnemonic at the cinema, first day it came out. I've been burned before.

I agree! Please lets not... The director and the producers of that movie need to be shot. I dont know who's doing the writing on this yet. Gibson did the script for Mnemonic.

Neuromancer is my favorite novel. I won't watch any movie adaptation, there's no way anything could compare.

Maybe certain roles lend themselves better to his personality.
(Though in Life as a House he was a whiny, angsty teenager, just like in Ep3, so there goes that theory.)

I had the absolute boredom of working on this film in a minor way for a few days, even when they were making it it looked sadly disappointing. Keanu is robot actor, of this i am convinced, no really, i met him, a real robot.
Anyways it makes me suspect that the 'lowest common denominator in the audience' hollywood machine will just make something awful.
They are also describing this as an "Indy" film. A 70 million dollar "Indy" film
