COD4 - PC vs. XB360

So, I bought COD4 for the PC when it first came out. I've enjoyed the multi-player quite a bit, but haven't really played the campaign at all.

I bought myself a new XB360 for Christmas and will be getting a Live account shortly. It seems like COD4 has more of a GWJ multi-player following on the 360.

Do you think it's worth re-buying the game to play online with goodjers?

I've got most of a game's cost in Best Buy gift cards, so if COD4 isn't going to be worth buying again on the console, are there any other 360 games with a good GWJ following that I should get instead?

I have Bioshock (not mp, I know) and TF2 for the PC and am borrowing a co-worker's Gears of War and could also borrow Halo 3 (both almost indefinitely).

Thoughts anyone?

Rebuying? Dunno. Maybe you could get the 360 version and sell the PC version at the trading post. Multiplayer with goodjers is definitely a good time, though.

The problem with that is that I bought it over steam. Is there any way I can gift a steam game that I've already played?

I have both versions. I got the 360 one first and then picked up the PC version to play with some people from work. I enjoy it more on the 360. Mainly because my PC won't support a decent resolution without taking a big performance hit in multiplayer. It's easier to level up on the PC side with custom settings and TDM games going to 2000 points. So, there's a little something for everyone on both sides.

If you've got someone to play with on the PC and you'd like to play on the 360 with Goodjers too, get it.

I think it's actually a better game on the 360. The smaller player limits are a huge blessing and the safety from hacks is no small thing either. The PC version's pretty loaded with aimbot users already.

I've said it a few times before, but Call of Duty IV is a console shooter. It's an extremely simple, streamlined shooter that was clearly made with an eye towards the consoles (COD2's massive console sales will do that to a previously PC-only franchise). There's absolutely nothing in the game that screams for a PC, and that's not by accident. The game is ideal for playing on the couch.

Battlefield, TF2, and Quake Wars are PC shooters. COD isn't, it resembles Halo more closely than any of those games in terms of its streamlined approach (except, you know, way better!)

You all may have swayed me. I'll put in an order later tonight, if I remember.

I have an urge to go back on my statement. Live's so broken right now it's telling me I don't have an active network connection when I try to enter the Xbox Live portion of CoD4.

You left off Unreal Tournament III.

Been thinking about CoD4 for the PC but mostly for the single player. Any PC players for CoD4 out there?

The 2142 gang has been pressing me to get COD4. I was thinking of picking it up for PC, but after this thread....

I'm going to put in a dissenting vote. I bought it for the 360 first, then the PC after my xbox red ringed. After getting my xbox back, I tried playing CoD again. I really liked this game during the xbox beta, and initially played it on the xbox, but after getting used to it on the PC, the xbox felt slow and imprecise. I ended up trading in my xbox copy to EB and sticking with the PC version. I just play on pubs, but have a great time.

If there are people who are actively playing COD4 for the PC (such as the 2142 gang) then I don't know if I need to turn to the console version.

Are there any other 360 games that have a good GWJ following on Live other than, say, Halo 3, Gears of War and Rock Band?

I have CoD4 for the PC and played on a few pubs. I think it's really good. The Lvling system makes you keep playing even if you are sucking. The only prob with it is that is has to compete with TF2 which is a lot easier to with Goodjers, or am I a newb and don't know how to set up CoD4 to work with Steam(bought the box version).

A few of us from the BF2142 crowd have been playing CoD4 for the PC, but the 360 CoD4 group seems a lot more healthy and likely to last for a while.

Just add the shortcut to your steam games list and launch it from there. Unfortunately steam doesn't seem to offer a "join friend's game" option for non-source/valve games. They should really get that in there, at least for some major titles.

Yeah I was hoping there would be a "Join Friend's Game" mechanism.

The approach to PC multiplayer is evidence of Legion's view that the 360 was always far more important to them than the PC gamer. It's not just the lack of an in-game friends list that makes it so awful, there isn't even a button on screen for connecting to a server by IP address. You have to pull down the console and enter a manual command to do it.

Had a chance to play both versions, and like most other FPS games it is definitely better on the PC. If you have a good machine to run it thats just an extra. Haven't run into any hackers at all yet, Punkbuster does an acceptable job. The only thing I would say is there are definitely more goodjers on the 360, bummer for all those PC cats, but I guess we can always fall back on TF2 baby.

I re-bought the game on the PC to have keyboard & mouse support as well as larger games and I'm really liking it as well. Yes it has some faults but it runs very well on my not-state-of-the-art machine and the games aren't full or morons who feel the need to constantly vomit speech. The games are still full of morons, they just don't talk. I also don't care about the lack of an in-game friends list because we have Steam Community and Xfire, both of which do just as good a job. Obviously it's not for everyone but I'll probably be eBaying my 360 version if anyone's interested.

The PC multiplayer kept my attention for only about 20 hours. That's about all the time it takes to level up and then the game's shortcomings--limited maps, no squads, spammy gameplay--become too evident.

Good thing the 0.7 release of Project Reality came out.

My game rotation is something like this:

360:Halo 3, TF2, Gears of War, CoD4. I log into live, see who is not watching a movie or playing Rock Band, then see if we can get a game going, or if there is one to join. You can usually get 4 players together pretty easily, and others join as the night goes on. The GWJ Clan accounts are your lifeline. Monday through Friday, this works well.

PC: World of Warcraft. That's it. My machine can run some fairly recent games, but why bother? The 360 versions are just as good (generally), and GWJ OWNS on live. Seriously.

Maybe you havent found a server that meets your needs yet.

I believe the PC versions are much better, then again, my kids never let me get near any of the consoles anyway!

I have the PC version playing with a GforceX2 9800 on a 28 inch lcd and I can crank the graphics and does it ever rock. The lighting looks so realistic and I think it is an amazing game with cranked graphics. I am not a console guy myself because I like to multi task my pc (not just for games). The huge drawback is that I can not see anyone on internet server. I know a couple people but not enough to throw a big match. Is there a way to tap the Console network from the PC at all or is something blocking me from seeing anybody?

Otherwise I really think this is a fun game.
