I know there is a mod thread already but its OLD.

So I started playing again... Yeah I know I said I wouldn't but my wife approves and I'm out of there if I go hardcore again.

Anyway what are some good mods to try? I know I need auctioneer (I guess its actioneer advanced or something now). I used to use CTMod or Cosmos. Are either still considered must haves? I'm playing a mage for now but I might roll a shaman just because I never played one but those guys aren't easy on the eyes and I don't care much for the voices. Any good Mage or shaman mods?

Omen is a great theat meter.
I use bartender3 for making my own use bars which is nice.

Tundra= Blackhand: GWJ Alliance Guildmaster- Grinds (druid) Grindars (paly), Grinderz (DK). What I lack in skill, I make up for in comedic relief, and I'm really funny.

I use Titan, Omen, Deadly Boss Mods, Xperl, Professions Book, Atlas Loot Enhanced, Item Rack, Stinky Queue, Lylock, Gatherer & Auctioneer. Does anyone have a link for lightheaded (quest mod I've heard about in guild chat) I can't find it on curse.com.

I highly recommend using mods built off the Ace2 libraries (http://www.wowace.com/wiki/Main_Page). I also recommend using the Ace Updated which you can download from the same page. There is no substitute for automatically updating all your mods with the click of a button.

I use about 50 different mods. Some of the ones I would most recommend are:

Omen
Fubar and its many addons
Recount
Cartographer
Bartender3
ag unitframes
auctioneer
elkbuffbars

As a new player I've been doing a lot of playing around with mods lately.

First off, I've found a combination of LightHeaded, TomTom, and Cartographer to be indispensable. LightHeaded is a mod that pulls data off WoWHead and displays it next to your quest log, so you can always have a quick in game reference about what you need to do for a quest. TomTom is a navigation tool made by the same developer, but it's key function is that integrates with LightHeaded allowing you to click a coordinate in the LightHeaded interface and have it automatically turned into a waypoint.

Other than that integration with LightHeaded, Cartographer does all that as well as being a fairly comprehensive map enhancement mod. Not only does it allow the arbitrary placement of waypoints but it also tracks points of interest by making notes on your map (and it allows you to make your own notes as well). Additionally, it has instance maps and it allows you to see through the "unexplored" fog on your map if you so wish. Honestly, if it could only be made to integrate with LightHeaded as TomTom does, there would be no need for TomTom.

I'm also using Auctioneer, although I haven't really dug into what it does much, and have mostly just used it for its ability to suggest prices when creating auctions.

I'm using the aforementioned Omen, which has been useful for me even at low levels since as a hunter I need to balance aggro between myself and my pet.

I'm using a mod called MacroTalk, which adds several way to use macro options on "insecure" slash commands that you wouldn't usually be able to use options with, such as chat commands and emotes. This is quite helpful if you are a slow typist (like me) or aren't fully familiar with the interface (like me), since it lets you program various common social interactions into one or two macro buttons.

Finally, I'm using several hunter specific mods. FeedOMatic gives you one button pet feeding, and Hunter's Helper allows you to easily identify beasts that have useful abilities to learn.

I also tried to install CTMod, but nothing happened when I did, so I either missed a configuration step, there is some incompatibility with something else I'm running, or I got a version that is out of date.

TomTom may have been built by the guy who does Lightheaded, but if you're running Cartographer, it's redundant.

As for mods in general, Ace is the way to go. WoWAce.com has a link to the WoWAce Updater, which while PC only, does an awesome job of keeping you up to date. Once again, here's a short list of what I use.

FuBar - Info bar display similar to Titan, only better. More customization, more options.
Lightheaded - Quest info, with the data stripped directly from WoWhead.
Omen - Best Threatmeter Ever.
Cartographer - Map mod, tracks nodes, chests, has instance maps with links to boss loot. There's a lack of boss chest loot though
agUnitframes - Raid scalable, as soon as I remember how to do that.
Bartender3 - Better button bars; I get 5 bars into the space of 3.
Elkano's Buffbars - More easily readable buff tracking; I can't stand the blizzard one.
Itemrack - Easy gear swapping. It's less an issue for me now that I'm resto, but for Paladins, Warriors & Druids, this one is a must have.
vBagnon - All bag spaces in one window. I love this mod, since it covers your bank as well. Not as good as it used to be, but that's ok.

Before I go installing some of these like cartographer, do the mods noticeably use up memory?

No idea, it works out of the box for me. However, I do run a full suite of Cartographer tools, so it could be something in there that you're missing.

Not sure I have much to add, of course I stole most of my config from AnimeJ anyway. I've wound up using Bongos rather than Bartender, liked the customization slightly better, but it mostly seems a matter of taste anyway. They both mainly do the same things, just liked the way Bongos did hotkeys better at the time (not sure if that's still the same way in Bartender). Two I use that I didn't see mentioned much are Recount, an excellent tracking tool for damage done or taken/healing/etc. with some really nice charts I haven't spent enough time with, and MobInfo2, which provides some historical tracking about mobs' info such as HP, loot dropped, experience given (along with an indicator how many more you need to kill to level) and a few other details.

Not sure if anyone posted it (didn't see it) but you can get LightHeaded from wowinterface.com, don't think it's on wowace.com. Also, for the Mac crowd out there, I've had good luck with wowmatrix for automatic mod updates. At least it's something until wowace's updater supports macs.

Bartender hotkey are set up in the key configuration, just like WoW's bars. It's one of the reasons I like Bartender so much. MobInfo is another good one, I just don't use it much anymore, and Recount is outstanding. It's come a long, long way from when I first tried it out.

That's what I found easier with Bongos. With Bartender, I was having trouble figuring out which entry in the key config corresponded to what, and was spending a lot of time going back and forth. With Bongos, you just select the key config option in the mod, mouse over the button, and press the key you want linked to the button. It was a lot faster for me. The rest of it seemed to more or less be the same overall options, just a different approach to implementation. Since I had to get used to either one, I wound up going back to Bongos.

Overall, it really seemed to boil down to a preference to approach though.

That one is Mac OSX 10.5 only, and was the only one I found until last night. However, I now have located a 10.4 compatible app that seemed to get the job done for me. It can be found here.

I'll have to try out that WoWMatrix though, robkid.

So last night I tried out a few new ones suggested here:

- FuBar, which is definitely good stuff, although the number of plugins available was definitely overwhelming at first. Definitely some indispensable tools available for it, though.
- Bartender, which didn't really appeal to me, mostly on an aesthetic level. Maybe I'll check out this Bongo addon tonight.
- ag_Unitframes, which was cool, although I wish it had a skin option to make it look more like the standard frames. It also screwed up the display of my pet maintenance addon, but thankfully a FuBar plugin provided me with the same functionality.
- Elkano's BuffBars, which were helpful but way too big. I couldn't find an option to scale them down, so I turned them off for now.
- Recount, which was fun, but a lighter weight FuBar plugin was available that provided enough info for me so I turned it off.
- ItemRack, but I didn't get a chance to play around with it much.
- HunterTimers, which was indeed provided a very welcome view of the state of my abilities.

Oh, and an reinstall of Cartographer from a different source cleared up the issue I was having with LightHeaded integration, so TomTom is now out.

All three of these are very custimizable and have right click menu's (there is even a fubar command center that will allow you to access the right-click settings for all your mods ... although I'm at work so I can't remember exactly what it is called). In any case, play around a bit, you can change scale, location, width, height, etc. etc.

Yeah, I found those with UnitFrames and BuffBars. Bartender, well, maybe I'll give it a second chance this weekend and compare what it does with what Bongos does, but for now the standard button bars are working for me.

UnitFrames I did stick with, because the extra options it provided (showing target of target, showing focus, etc) were too useful. I just wish I could using it and have it skinned like the standard frames -- I had grown fond of their aesthetics.

BuffBars I'll definitely turn back on and play around with some more, but last night I just wanted to actually play the game a bit without them blocking my view. I'm sure there must be an option to scale them down a bit, but I just couldn't find it last night (even though I found quite a few other useful options for it).

With the number of hacked accounts on the rise I thought I would make sure people know to look out for key loggers when downloading mods...most of you know that but for the people downloading mods for maybe the first time. If the mod asks you to install anything definitely refuse and delete the files. Just a heads up for those that might otherwise not know =P.

zero, I turned off ElkBuffBars for exactly the same reason; too damn big, no scaling option.

If you play a spellcasting class, Decursive is likely to be highly useful.

I've been using ClosetGnome as my item swapper, but I think I'm going to try out ItemRack. It's been a bit buggy for me.

Now that they're getting done, guess I'll have to start looking at them. Do they only deal with ace mods though? One of the nice bits with wowmatrix is that it also handles some non-ace mods, such as bongos and auctioneer (among many others). In fact, the only one I have it doesn't do is LightHeaded.

Holy Crap! Bounce is returning!

I still run quite a few mods. I experiment with a new one every couple weeks but these are my core mods that have been my staples for a while now:

Auctioneer - Still a must
Bagnon - For single frame bank and bag frames
BigWigs - Raid warnings (you wont need it until 70)
Bongos - Bar mod
Cartographer - Basic map mod, there are a whole slew off addons if you want them.
Craftlist - Enables people to query your profession capabilities (I get tells for Jewelcrafting alot).
Damagemeters - I still use this although there are some newer mods that accomplish the same thing.
Decursive - It was broken, then it got updated. It works as well as it used to.
eCastingbar - Simple cast bars.
EquipCompare - Compares your equipment to what you're inspecting
FuBar - Outstrips TitanPanel in every way. Start with the basic add-ins and work from there.
Gatherer - If you've taken a gathering profession.
Healbot - I've found it useful for soloing as well as raids. If you're character heals check it out.
Mik Scrolling Battle Text - Scrolling combat text, better presented than SCT.
NaturEnemyCastBars - Timers for a variety of things in game (more useful in a raid).
Omen - Currently the best threatmeter.
Omni Cooldown Count - Adds cooldown timers to your action buttons.
Outfitter - Same purpose as Itemrack, set up multiple sets of gear for use at a single click.
Postal - A well-done mail mod with improvements over CT.
Professions Book - Useful to see what recipes your characters know, no matter which one your on.
Proximo - Targetting mod for arena battles.
Spam Sentry - Auto blocks gold spam.
Spyglass - Improvement over the standard inspection UI. Plus it stores characters you inspect.
Trinket Menu - Manages your trinket slots.
X-Perl - The mother off all unit frame mods. It's hard to grasp how much this mod does. Check it out.

I'll keep an eye out for you in-game. I'm the raid leader at Kings Army now. I'm pretty much always on one version of Deepsea or another. Currently bringing up my druid, Deepcea.
