It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I don't know how many of you are familiar with this show, but I just had to get it out there and say that this is easily one of the funniest shows I have seen in the past 10 years. If you haven't seen it, imagine an ultra-crass version of The Office set in a Philadelphia-area Irish bar with much less likable, yet equally if not more hilarious, characters. I should clarify; when I say the characters are less likable I simply mean they are less cute and adorable (Jim, Pam, etc..) and more the type of characters that you love to hate. Great and edgy writing, great characters, great casting. One of the few shows on TV that I literally laugh out loud at. Highly recommended. Airs on FX Thursdays at 9 I believe.

And if you are wondering what kind of shows I like in general to give you and idea of the sense of humor that this show appeals to, my favorites are: Firefly (far and away,) The Office, Scrubs, Flight of the Conchords, and The Daily Show/Colbert Report.

I love the show. It gets way better after the first season, when they start letting Dee actually be funny instead of always being the foil.

It's a pretty funny show, but sometimes the patheticness of the characters gets to me - its one dismal story after another, which can be tough. I'm nearing the end of season 1 and I'm still enjoying it, but 30 Rock and Weeds still take the cake in my book.

True, the characters are pretty pathetic, but I like that every episode they get to start anew. I can't think of many episodes that carry over their problems from previous ones. Regardless, Charlie is one of the funniest characters in a sitcom ever and I can't exactly put my finger on why.

Jeeze, I've been waiting for someone to bring this series up!

We caught a couple of episodes on vacation in 2006 (Season 1) and found it....appalling.

Appalingly funny, that is. Living in Philadelphia, I can say that we are struck by the way the series- done by a Philadelphian (Rob/Mac)- captures some of the tone of the city. Truly awful people- but there's something funny about the just awful situations they make for themselves. Truthfully, there's no series that takes on "hot topics" like abortion and drug addiction like this one.

Season 2 introduced Danny DeVito as Dennis and Dee's father- and I'd say that the series stepped up a notch in acting/scripting, etc. We got the DVD (for my birthday) and have been parcelling the episodes out slowly, savoring them.

Understand, they are not always laugh out loud, hysterically funny or hysterically witty., but we've found them preferable to "Curb Your Enthusiasm"- at least in part because all of the characters take turns in being awful.....

I'd like to close with two words......."Strip Club!"

"Eat Keel, Hellbug!"

Definitely a winner. I've watched this since they started and it just seems to be more ridiculously funny every episode... There are too many one liners to list....

Very good--and funny--show.

It's amazing that basic cable channels like FX are cranking out programming that kicks the crap out of most network and premium shows. The Riches, Rescue Me, etc.

I can only hope that if the writer's strike continues that more of these gems will get some time on the networks instead of more reality programming.
