What's your dream job?
Friday, January 4th, 2008 - 8:44pm
Whether its in the video game industry or elsewhere, what is your dream job? How does it differ from your current job? How would you go about getting that dream job?
Working in the game industry pros / cons?
I am debating on college possibilities right now, so some cool dream job ideas would be great.

I suspect I'd love working at Google, though I haven't yet had the guts to even apply.
Beyond that, running my own 'tech' company. There are a few people with whom I talk with and the ideas begin flowing ... but we have yet to move beyond that stage.

My dream job is not a job. Take this for what it's worth, but "Work to live, don't live to work." Every "dream" job has some sh*tacular portion to it. It just can't be avoided.

Maybe you could be a stay at home first lady.
I want to spend the rest of my life talking and thinking about gaming...
Or mayhaps working on the story for a game, that would be radness.
Or a Rockette.

I guess I don't buy into the philosophy that if you decide to have a career suddenly you're mindless drone being beat down by The Man. Yes even "dream" jobs have some sh*tacular portion to them, but so does everything in life that's worth pursuing- whether it be a career, relationship, or whatever. It's the folks that have real passion in their work that pushes mankind forward... otherwise we'd still be a bunch of damn dirty apes.
Oh and the dream job was work for NASA/JPL ....and I'm living the dream.... as yes there are sh*tacular portions, but I still dig it.
Damn man, you stole my dream job! I'm a software engineer at a big defense/aerospace company so I'm getting there..

In reality, I had my dream job once and it was running the Ottawa Geek Squad store with one of my best friends. Then Best Buy decided to kick me in the junk and yank that out from under me so a new higher-up could assert his power. My ultimate hope is that the new company I am starting up with that same friend will end up being that great.

Having enough money not to have to work is the first thing that comes to my mind, but that's not fair or realistic(took a look at that link Shihonage, neat stuff but not for me yet).
I have a hard time with this question, so I'll just answer it with this. If I'm not happy doing what I'm doing now, time to try something else.
My next course of study would either be aviation or meteorology.

As a 22-year old, in-and-out of college, drifteresque male, I honestly don't know what my dream job would be. I can say that working for ESPN in any capacity would probably suit me very well. Preferably writing about college basketball. Or even color commentary. I could be the next Dick Vitale...minus the grating voice, penchant for nonsensical psuedo-slang, and constant awkward shoulder touching.

Well I am halfway to my dream job.
Currently a Struggling Actor - I just need to get rid of that first part of my title, or find myself a sugar mama, and I will be living my dream.
I agree 100%
Money may be nice but it sure ain't worth wasting your life over. I am so much happier living poorer than when I was working a crap ass job for good pay.
