WOW BHA- Lowbie run 1/3/08 Please sign up

Lowbie run scheduled for 1/3/08 at 8pm server time like usual. I've noticed we have had a group of new players joining or returning and I'm here to help. I think we should have enough players to do a full deadmines run. If we don't have the need to run this, I will switch the run to a midbie (30+) run somewhere because we have had a good core group of players in this range. So get your quests for the instances and we will run them for you.

Again, if it is your first time through an instance, let me know and we will give you some opportunity for group dynamics play, a learning experience. If it is an alt toon, bring your big bags.

Please sign up so I know what to expect.

I think I'm still too low to do this -- I only just hit level 13, and I'm still learning the basic mechanics of the game. Also, I may not bring my laptop home from work tonight, and Luna doesn't want the game installed on the home computer.

I definitely would be interested in this sometime in the near future, though.

ZeroKFE - your close. With me along, you don't have to worry too much about the monsters overpowering you. I'll keep you alive. Not sure of your class, but I'd definately help you learn the ropes in the instance.

Reap- You know I'll run you through anytime. Got to keep your goons from messing me up. We could probably do ST after the lowbie on Thursday. See if you can round up a group.

Thanks Tundra!

I'm playing a Draenei hunter, and I've started specializing him as a beast master (and I have done the quests to get my pet). I guess the armory hasn't updated on him yet, since the link in my sig still shows a message that he isn't level 10 yet.

I am completely new, though -- I literally turned the game on for the first time on Monday, and I've never played an MMO before (although I am a big RPG player, so many of the core concepts of the game are not foreign to me). Assuming I do bring my laptop home, where would I need to go to get the necessary quests to join you?

Currently I just arrived on Bloodmist Isle and I have a flight path back to the Draenei capital on Azuremist Isle. I did take the boat over to the Night elf starting island to play with Danjo on his trial account a bit on Monday night and I talked to the flight master at the capital there, but the flight masters on the Bloodmist and Azuremist isle didn't offer me the ability to fly there when I talked to them last night. I'm not sure if that is normal, or if I did something wrong, but whatever.

Also, by server time do you mean central? I'm on pacific, so 8 PM CST/ 6 PM PST might be a bit early for me to swing, since I have dinner plans this evening. Again, though, even if I don't make it tonight I would love to join in sometime soon.

ZeroKFE- Your comments remind me of myself just 4 months ago. That is when I first installed the game and here I am, trying to help those along that are new. The location for the deadmines run is in Westfall on the Island of Eastern Kingdoms. It is kind of difficult to get to from the draenei start area. You need to take a boat to menthil harbor and run to Ironforge. From there, take the underground tram to stormwind. From stormwind, it is a short run to westfall. The most difficult part of that path is the run from menthil harbor to Ironforge. Ask in guild chat and I'm sure someone can help you along. If I am on, send me a tell and I will help you get there. Make sure to pick up all the flight paths along the way to save you some steps later on.

The other thing we can do is summon you to westfall or get you a port to stormwind. One way or another we will get you there. As for the quests, I don't remember off hand, but I think you can pick up most in Westfall.

Yes, server time is central time. I can push it back a bit for you as it will only take us 1/2 hour at the most, even with some training thrown in. I'll see what I can do for some bags also, as you will be collecting alot of gear. I look forward to helping you out.

I've already been blessed by the guild with a full set of 12 slot bags and some starting cash, so I should be okay on that front.

As for the Deadmines and Westfall, I'll see if I can't find some good maps online somewhere when I take a break today so that I know where I'm going beforehand, and so that I know where to look for the quests.

Also, I just realized that today is January 2, not January 3, so it should be a little easier for me to make the scheduling work. I still can't say for certain if I can make it or not, but it will give me time to think of a way to convince Luna (my wife Lunabean, that is, not Lunazul) that this isn't going to be the start of a serious addiction.

So, how low is low? I'd like to jump in with my new Druid, as it'll be my first raid, and I'm pretty sure that level 7 is too low for a raid of any kind.

zero - definitely try to get a portal to Stormwind from a mage; there are 3 quests there, btw, and a couple you get in Westfall.

Just go to Darnassus and pay a mage 1g to port you. Happy to help walk you through that and the pre-req quests tonight sometime, or I'm sure someone else will if we don't hook up.

Looks like I need to be level 15 to take most of the quests for Deadmines, plus a chain of 6 quests that lead up to one of them. If I get a chance to play tonight I'll try to work my way over to Stormwind and Westfall, where the quest givers are, and see if I can get ready by tomorrow. If not, I'll just have to wait for another time, you know?

Zero, even though you'll miss some quests, you'll still gain plenty of XP and very good loot. Most instances drop loot for characters several levels below. I highly recommend you go! However, don't feel rushed through the game. Play at your pace, and if you're not ready to run an instance yet, don't worry!

Yeah, Zero, go at your own pace and enjoy the scenery. I would avoid the urge to rush through areas and quests just to get someplace else. Then again, I'm easily distracted by pretty flowers and shiny objects. Deadmines is an awesome instance though, and worth going through several times.

Thanks again for the advice -- yeah, I'm in no real rush to be sure, but I think I might actually be able to pull it off for tonight. I managed to hoof it all the way to Ironforge and get very, very close to 15 last night, so I'll at least be able to pick up some of the quests before 6 PM PST tonight (I'll have about an hour after work or so to make it happen). I'm not sure that I'll be able to get through the whole quest chain that leads up to VanCleef, but if I don't I'll just do that one another time.

I had Malor's toon (I can't remember all these WoW names!) run me through VanCleefe the other night, and it was my first view of an instance. I didn't really participate (except for pulling a couple of adds... and having my pet on aggressive... oops!), but there was a lot of money, and cool drops for my level and yours, Zero. I can't wait to go in with a few people around the appropriate level (20-22?) and actually start to learn how to play a role in an instance!

Like Aries, I've only done one run, and I think it was Dead Mines. My lvl 23 mage contributed very little, but it was interesting. Given all the high levels' repetition of these instances, I figured there was a lot of depth to them, and would like to see them done by some friendly experts.
My mage is 28, and unlikely to get much higher without help. I burned out on the solo game for now. I'd love to join an event like this, if my level is appropriate, and if I can come by a little later (like 9-10pm EST) after the kids are in bed.

Oh, also, is there anyone else in the guild who is new right now?

I had been given a full set of 12 slot bags earlier this week, but last night I was given two 16 slotters, so now I would like to pass on the pair of extra 12s to another new player. If there isn't anyone at the moment I'll just throw them in the bank and pass them along when someone else does show up, but if anyone needs them now they are up for grabs.

All are welcome on the run. 28 is getting to the point where you can head to the stockade, another fun instance, but we'd love to have you. We can certainly set it up as a "real" instance like run for you all. It is good to start learning dynamics of the game at an early level, because it is important to know what other classes can do in a group setting. Marking monsters is important and knowing how your group leader wants the kills to take place. I think we can get a nice little training run in, get some good loot for the lower level chars, and I'll be the safety net. Looking forward to the run with you all and I might have some goodies for the run.

Go ahead and use them for extra bank space until you need bigger ones, then either pass them directly to a new toon or toss them into the Guild Bank and we'll send them on once someone needs them.

Heh, I actually tried to put them in the guild bank but it seemed rather full, and full of much better stuff. Is there a specific page that has space for them?

I would very much like to do it that way -- I'm actually much more interested in the learning than the quests or the loot right now, to be honest.

zero - there are tons of people who have characters that are below level 30 or so; tons of alts, for one thing.

When I first started, I threw up a thread asking about a Deadmines run and got a bunch of responses: Veloreyn (on hiatus), Copingsaw, Vilius, and Cinster (welcome back!!!). We were all "on level" for the instance, and had a great time.

One thing to think about in terms of grabbing and completing all the quests is that it's quite normal to do the dungeon more than once; maybe try it for the first time with Grinders, then post a thread advertising for a run at a specific day and time; you might find a full group of people in the appropriate level range. It's important to get practice working in groups, for sure.

And let me just throw in an "attaboy" for Grinders, who though relatively new to us has taken it upon himself to give back like this. Your service and selflesness are a model for us all, brother!

I've got a priest alt currently at 29, advancing when I get some time for him. If you're ever looking for a healer for an at-level run, let me know and I'd be happy to join if I'm the right level. I want to try to spend more time healing with him than I did tanking with Kamyndra while leveling, although I seem to be catching on well anyway.

Good times last night and a good learning experience. Tundra is a prince among men for helping us out the way he did.

I think that my number one takeaway (aside from some sweet new equipment, of course) is that I need to hook up an external keyboard to my laptop. In the heat of a pitched battle it is no good to hit the wrong modifier key and fire off the exact wrong action.

Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to the next opportunity to do this again.

Update on the Lowbie- We had 3 players, Zerokfe, Klobben, and Kirwinn. Things went well. Kind of ran parts of it as a training session. Warrior tanked, hunter used pet, priest healed. I cleaned up when needed. Went through standard loot rules. Needed, greeded and chatted it up on vent. Got some quests done, too. I know we got 1 level and should have a second with the quest turn ins. It was a good time and hopefully helpful from a learning standpoint. Showed them the bosses and talked a bit about them and what they do. Hopefully, they will have a good basis to becoming good GWJers, which I'm sure they will.

Yeah, good times except for when I could not get my mic to work. First time for me running Deadmines. After the instance run, Zero and I went ahead and picked up the rest of the quests we need for one more run into Deadmines.

I have a 68 Horde character on another server and as I was telling the group last night, I feel lost sometimes on the alliance side having never played one. Same goes for having never played a priest. It is a good thing though, because it is a new and different enough experience from playing my Horde Druid all those months ago, that I am enjoying it. Eight months off and changing sides has made the game fresh enough to enjoy.

Plus, it is good to have some other lowbies to level up with as we work to join the GWJ Alliance 70s.
