I'm not sure what to think about this.

It's a movie about a whale-throwing, don't-care-what-anyone-says superhero with what looks like a serious alcohol problem. What's not to like?
So hell did freeze over after all; Welcome to Skjold!
I'm not a fan of Will Smith when he does comedy... I'm still interested in seeing this though.

Another smash hit for AWESOME-O! (Or, at least the brief description sounds like something from that episode)

I don't know, I really like Uma Thurman and the Brothers Wilson and My Super Ex-Girlfriend was maybe the worst movie I've ever seen. Let's see if Smith can pull this one off. I like him, but his penchant for playing characters that are the absolute best at whatever they do does get annoying. Same goes for Nicholas Cage, Steven Segal, and Ben Affleck.

Incidentally, it's probably the worst movie I've never seen.
That reminds me: I'm still waiting for Ben to call me about the movie rights for The Wordsmythe Story.

hehe this looks like a ripoff of Superman when Richard Pryor gives him that krytonite laced with tar and he gets all red necky and drunk..
Why on earth would a super hero be called Hancock? Does he like detective stories?
Regardless anything with a whale being thrown into the sea... SIGN ME UP!

Because it's, you know, his name?

I saw a trailer for this in the theatre on Sunday. It gives a pretty good visual for collateral damage.

I still need to see "I Am Legend".

That was a tremendous disappointment.
There is only an up or down--up to a man's age-old dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order--or down to the ant heap totalitarianism,... those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.
Oh nos!! Not good? Maybe I don't need to see it.

No, it was awesome... just be sure to watch the alternate ending instead of the theatrical ending.

I liked it, but I got the special edition DVD with the "correct" ending.
It's a good flick, but you may want to read the story it's based on AFTER you see the movie.
I think it tries a little too hard to be "serious" when it's really a popcorn flick.

I liked the seriousness. Better than the action parts. Hell, I probably would've liked the movie more without the vampires. Except then he wouldn't have anything to try to cure, so then what? I don't know.
Looking forward to Hancock.

And remember, the Japanese aren't commercially whaling. They're conducting "research". Like "researching how delicious this whale is". - Paleocon
I couldn't stand the fact that he was a complete and total tactical nincompoop. There were literally dozens of things he could have done to better protect himself and he did none of them.

I feel like I saw about half of the Hancock movie right there. I hope it's not yet another iteration of the "be who you are" Hollywood cliche.
That cliche coming out of Hollywood always cracks me up though.

I was really looking forward to this film, but the reviews so far have been pretty abysmal-- only 32% fresh!
Arg. Sounds like WANTED might be the "over the top action film" for me this week.

Or better yet just stick to reading the book, because it was (in so many ways) better.

Not sure why Hancock is getting such bad reviews. My wife and I really enjoyed it. It's not exactly uplifting or educational, but what do you expect from a superhero movie? Jason Bateman is basically reprising his role from Arrested Development, so he's good for a few laughs.
Hoi, chummers!
Book? What book? Please 'splain/give me an Amazon link.
"I Am Legend" by Richard Matheson.

Maybe I'll take a chance and go see Hancock after all... I know that critics sometimes all seem to pile on a particular film (or, even worse, universally praise one). Most of the time when all the critics call something a masterpiece I find it terrible...

I kind of expect a big dumb summer movie to get dogpiled critically, so it's probably great.

yes, and no... I mean, Iron Man is still one of the best reviewed films of the year.
