Anyone else working
I was gonna make a big sad speech about working on Christmas Eve, but really, I'm not doing any work. So there is little to complain about. Having counted all the ceiling tiles in eyesight (238), I find my mind drifting off. So, here's some random thoughts for you.
MOVIES: Just watched Stardust. I really enjoyed that one. Of course, I've had a thing for Clair Daines since My So Called Life. I'm really excited for The Dark Knight, Hellboy, and AvP:R. But other than that, I'm kinda meh on movies. I don't know, am I all movie'd out for now? I'm kinda getting more into shows.
TV: Writers suck. Studio execs suck. I feel for the principle of the issue, but they are making so much money already I find it hard to back them up. It's greed all around it seems. Also, I really dislike most reality TV. The reason they call acting Art or a Craft is because not all people can do it and instruction really helps. Did you know that Ving Rhames went to Julliard? Also, I love Heroes. More recently, I've started watching the more recent Dr. Who series. That show is so cool.
CARTOONS/ANIME: I like cartoons/anime. Also, just because it's on Nickelodeon, don't pass up Avatar: the Last Airbender. And girls, don't roll your eyes when I say that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a great series. That doesn't apply to most of the girls/ladies/young women that frequent this site. But I know you have non-gamer girlfriends, so spread the word.
PARANOIA: They're really after me. If you don't believe me, you're one of THEM.
POLITICS: I'm so uninformed about the issues it's(grmr?) almost scary. Do you think that citizens who lived in the age of giants thought much of their leaders? Did the north know how much of a good man they had in Lincoln? Did the people who didn't vote for FDR still respect him for the leader he was? Just how polarized was the nation 50 years ago? 100 years ago? Maybe we can be surprised by whomever we elect. I'd be surprised with a candidate who at least made me feel excited about government.
MATH: What was it when you get the answer to a subtraction question? I know addition is sum and multiplication is product. Anyway, I'm not good with math.
PUERTO RICAN GIRL THAT WORKS NEXT TO ME: She is such a freaking nationalist. I know she loves her home country, as I love mine, but there's only so much America bashing I can take. Whenever she doesn't say how much of an arrogant, imperialist, and incompetant nation this is, we usually get along very well. She's kind of funny and her boyfriend is a chef who brings us food. I've never said "If you don't like it here then GTFO" before and meant it as anything but a joke, but after 3 days of listening to her rant I almost let it slip in annoyance if only to offend her so much she might shut up.
MUSIC: I like My Chemical Romance, but I'm not emo. I like Korn, but I'm not angry. Why is that? Is it because they are emo and angry for me? Not a fan of rap or country, but there are exceptions. Johnny Cash is a big exception. Although, I only really started listening to his stuff after Walk the Line. I like rock, metal, alternative, and whatever the "guys on pianos" genre is. It all started with Billy Joel. He'll always be the Piano Man to me. I don't like pop at all. I can't think of any exception to that rule. And I really like the lineup for Guitar Hero 3. I didn't know the Stones wrote "Paint it Black." It's sad, but, hey, it's true.
ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS: All my have been mostly bland, unimaginative, and passionless. I miss them so much. I should probably be a bit more assertive. Scratch that, aggressive. Should be ok, I'm used to looking like an ass, but normally with only friends and family. Time to step outside my comfort zone and look like an ass in front of aquaintances and complete strangers.
COMICS: Anytime Bill Watterson wants to come out of seclusion and write again, it'll be fine with me. I also American comics, but find my attention waning as the stories get more convoluted. That's what initially attracted me to manga. Mangas generally have a start and a finish and that's the stories. None of the "Continuing Saga of {Insert Popular Character}" until you run them into the ground. Just how many comics can Wolverine and Batman be in? Now, if they wanted to completely restart the title, that would be cool, like making the Ultimate Universe the main focus of Marval. Seeing the characters start all over again would be an awesome way of getting new readers AND truly learning the lesson of not painting oneselves into corners with overy-complex storylines along with overusing cliched gimmicks ("It wasn't me, it was a clone/alien/imostor", "I was blown out to sea and lost my memory and now I'm a villain until you jar my memory").
FILTHY SKIMMING: I'm a fan, especially given how this kind of post was another goodjer's idea. The name escapes me, lucky for me the idea's not copyrighted. ![]()
ENDING THOUGHTS: Thank you for taking this magical ride with me and helping me count down the hours until I can go home and eat a wonderful meal that my family is waiting for me to partake of. You see, I really have nothing to complain about. Except for maybe all of THEM following me. I gotta give them the slip.
EDIT* Oh, yeah, Merry Christmas to you all! Or Happy Holidays if you wanna go the PC route.
UPDATE*
CHICKEN SANDWICH I HAD FOR LUNCH: Fantastic. I didn't know there was southwestern mayonaise(sp?), but there is and it's goooooood eatin' on a fried chicken sandwich.

I was supposed to work today, but after I didn't crawl out of bed until 2:00, decided I wouldn't. I was also supposed to work tomorrow, but as of yesterday I was able to get someone to cover for me.
As a side note, Billy Joel at least is the exception to your anti-pop rule. He was certainly 'pop' in his heyday.

Eh. I'm just glad that I don't have to work tomorrow.
We're actually doing newscasts tomorrow. Theoretically, someone will be watching them. I don't know who.
Hope everyone has Christmas day left to their own devices, or cleans out their employers bank accounts appropriately. . .

Killing time until 5. More than half of the office seems to be out today.
Not to take away from your musings, but saying this is "greed all around" is not factual. The contract dispute is about residuals (what writers get paid when reruns air), a fee which hasn't changed since 1987. A vast majority of WGA members are out of work at any given time, and rely on residuals to support themselves. Residuals also fund the pension, health care and benefit programs for several other "below the line" worker organizations.
Essentially, the writers see the internet as the new "TV" and want a piece of the action when networks offer streaming video with advertisements. They want 2% or something like that. The studios want to give them 0%.
Yeah, it sucks with no TV being produced, but I'm only seeing "Greed" on one side of the equation.

Worked today but have the rest of the week off. It's always frantic when taking a vacation knowing that no one else can do your job while you are away. Spent the day hustling, trying to work as far ahead as possible in the hopes that the pileup won't be too big upon my return.

I am working on being awesome... Does that count?
Technically, the answer to a division problem is the quotient (c). The dividend is the first number (a) and the divisor is the second number (b) if a/b=c. I am sure that is what you meant, but I felt the need to clarify.

As for the pursuit of women, I recommend getting a wing man. Jazz Hands should do the trick, so long as you keep him from getting too frisky with those mitts.

SommerMatt is right about the strike. Writers are the "good guys" in that one.
Anybody seen that preview for Cloverfield? I really hope that thing doesn't fail to deliver as badly as Blair Witch.

The "Writer's Strike" is a very interesting thing to me. Because, in Mexico, there's like 4 writers, and apparently they write all soap operas and "Dancing with the Stars" variety type shows, and no one cares about "Good TV".
And writers in the US seem to be pretty much just protesting by doing nothing, or by pandering to the people who really don't care: The public.
Do those "street protests with picket signs" ever work in the US? In Mexico, they don't, they're pretty much the recourse of the downtrodden, the poor and powerless. But I hear in France they work.
