Has anyone ever bought anything from the valve store? www.store.valvesoftware.com

I put in an order on the 16th of this month and its still pending approval. I am assuming it is going slowly due to the time of year.

They have some cool tf2 shirts and other stuff. I picked up pyro & spy shirts, HL2:Deathmatch mousepad and some TF2 posters.

No, but I have bought stuff from Steam and I've never had any problems with them. I really like the Steam service, but they have a crap selection of games. Most of the new games I want to buy, they don't sell. The Witcher, for instance.

And I really dislike buying game boxes now. It's just more waste of space and plastic, and I like my games being available online anytime. =)

I have to second that I love steam, but I also love having the physical boxes and making little box forts.

I tried to buy the aperture science Xmas cards a month ago. They charged me. They never even emailed a confirm and I've received nothing. I've sent three sets of emails and comment forms and nothing. I'm rejecting the paypal payment tomorrow.

Have to convince the publishers in question to let Steam be a platform to sell their games.

To answer the question of this thread, I ordered a single item on the 15th, and it was shipped on the 20th, at least according to the e-mails they have been sending me. Apparently it should arrive on the 28th. This is the sum total of my Valve store experience though, I've never ordered something (physical) from them before.

I prefer hard CDs/DVDs, though Steam has warmed me up to digital distribution a great deal. But, I am an organized person in regards to my CD/DVD collections, so I have never lost a game, nor have been unable to find one I had the sudden urge to play. Though I understand that this is far from the normal state for people.

I desperately want the Orange Box soundtrack, but the $27 shipping to Canada is unacceptable for a $19 CD.

That's discouraging. Sounds like the same situation. I also bought through paypal, so maybe that is causing problems.

I bought a few little posters and things on the 15th, and also haven't got anything. I got some emails saying they got the order and such, but then nothing. I used a Visa though, so I'm not convinced it's just a Pay Pal issue. Currently, my order status is "Billed."

Purchased the black mesa parking permit, TF2 soldier shirt, portal shirt, and deathmatch mousepad on the 3rd, and received everything in one package on approximately the 17th. I don't remember ever seeing the "Item has Shipped" message any time that I checked my order.

I was looking for a possible digital distributed version of the Witcher myself, and discovered that Atari sells it online, but I could not find any information on the system they use, and with the problems Atari is currently having, I was a bit worried that if I bought it, and it used some on-line authorization technique every time I played, there was a very distinct chance that I would one day very soon not be able to play any more. (jeez, that's all one sentence?) Anyway -- anyone have any experience with Atari's digital distribution? Instinct and gut tells me to stay very far away, but if someone had more information on the authorization used, it might sway me otherwise.

The bad experiences are disappointing, as well as the absence of a stand-alone Companion Cube plushie (rather than the "dice"). I would REALLY like to get that City 17 Lithograph, but perhaps it would be more judicious to wait until after the holidays.

I picked up the Aperture Laboratories and Black Mesa parking passes w/ Paypal and don't recall any hiccups whatsoever w/ the process. Of course, I got them in late November, if i recall correctly, and may have missed the Kwanzaa rush.

I have to say that I dig the little stickers as well. They are little hidden signs that only advertise my geek-dom to those in the know.

Dammit, why are they always sold out of those Black Mesa parking permits? I'd love one of those. Ditto for the Aperture Science coffee mug. I need that.

I have not bought anything digitally from Atari but if I recall from ArmA, they use a system from Macrovision to distribute their titles (it's name eludes me right now but Direct2Drive uses it as well) and I believe it is hosted by a third-party. So when Atari goes under (yes when, they're beyond saving now), those titles should still be usable. If you check their forums though, there's probably info there. I know when ArmA came out, a lot of people were talking about that there. If you'd rather avoid the risk though, Direct2Drive also sells The Witcher and since they aren't Atari, you'd definitely have continuous access to it there.

If I recall correctly, D2D stuff doesn't interface with normal patches, though (they distribute their own versions). When I contemplated buying Oblivion from them, that turned me off. Nothing worse than bureaucratically extended waiting times for patches, if you ask me.

And if I haven't seen further, it's because those bloody giants blocked my sight.

That is a good point I forgot about. That and my hate of badly implemented DRM are the reasons I don't buy there or from the Atari system.

Inelegant DRM and privacy handling are really the two biggest problems I have with digital distribution at this point. Which is why I have to tip my hat to Valve. They're the biggest data miners around and their DRM stance is pretty conservative, but they managed to turn many of their policies' disadvantages into consumer benefits (the individual stats; the location-independent game catalogue).

Sorry to necro this but it just arrived. Quite pleased with the quality, even if it took nearly 3 weeks to get here. The shirts are kind of an off-white colour. I likes it.

I bought the TF2 Spy T-Shirt as a Christmas present here in Canada for MoonDragon.
Used VISA and I got it under 2 weeks back in October. I found the whole thing painless except that they sent it by courier to my home address on a weekday. Of course I was at work and had to make other arrangements to pick it up. Yes, I could have had it delivered to work but a) it's too geeky to send to the office, and b) MoonDragon works right beside me.
