Any GWJ guys playing? I am on Blackbeard - Khyron Dez - Pirate!
hehe slight cough, but yea i'm poking around with it. I have a pirate (dont remember what level) on Rathkham.
I dont care to start one up on Blackbeard
I got in two days ago. I left the client downloading at home. I hope to be on tonight if it's done.
PS: Fileplanet sucks.
Have they made it so non-Fileplanet subscribers can download the client?
When fileplanet crashed several times on me, I went ahead and found a torrent for it.
I have tried half a dozen times to register for the Beta. But the typical, f*cked up, Sony web pages and archaic design have prevented me from doing so. I just gave up on trying any more. It is a shame, the concept really interested me and I was hoping to do my part to make the game a good one. The great thing is that because I never managed to get into the damn beta, I never signed an NDA.
NDA has been lifted for a bit. If anything it'll be a nice distraction from WoW until AoC.
here's the list of the opening server names.
Personally i'm not going to go on Blackbeard or Rackham due to the fact those were the ones used in Beta and probably get the biggest populatons at the start.

FYI
The beta ends this Sunday. 12/30.
I've been playing the beta for a few days and I'm kind of disappointed. The concept is great, the detailed fleshing out doesn't seem too bad, but the gameplay and implementation don't seem like anything to write home about. There's a lot of endless sailing through admittedly gorgeous scenery. There's a lot of circling another ship with the rudder hard a port or starboard, blasting whenever you get a shot.
A particular peeve of mine is "invisible walls"--areas it looks like you could enter, but you can't because an invisible wall is in the way. Your feet are firmly on the ground, too. You can't jump or even climb over things; (see above, "invisible walls".) You can't even dashingly leap a curb.
Before I knew the game so well, I pre-ordered it. I've cancelled the order.
Is it unfair of me to say these things before the game has even gone GA? A violation of ethics, even?
Do you agree with me? Disagree? Please let me know. In delicate language; my feelings are easily bruised.
And a few more peeves...
Your ship seems to be a cousin to a dodgem car. You can run into the shore and you just bounce off. You can run into another ship and ditto, although it does appear that you can crunch your bowsprit that way.
I have a little experience sailing. These ships can go further upwind than any square-rigger ever did. Also you can sail in a tight continuous circle, neglecting where the wind is.
You can't tangle your rigging with another ship, no matter what you do.
Bye-bye for now, until my next eruption of irritation.
I enjoyed the sailing combat (which reminded me of Sid Meier's Pirates ! more than anything, but I thought the swashbuckling looked like it was half-finished, and the economic/construction model was far too complex for the likes of me.
I suspect that I may hang on for Warhammer, rather than this one.

I can see how new guys do this and at times you may actually have to do the hard port/starboard turn, but if you concentrate on boarding then that's definitely not the way to fight. Also when you get beyond level 35 and the bigger gun ships that also doesn't apply.

I've found these arguments funny. At the very beginning of them developing this they said that they had to concede some points on realism. The ability to turn without having the wind behind you and the way you arrive into ports being some big points. Done mainly because of the chance of having players being stuck and the chance of greifing made them change their minds on this. Yet the same people who fuss about this also tend to fuss about having to sail from port to port. It's not like the ships were space ships and zipped along at light speeds.
OK, what the heck. I will play it through until I know the game better. Thanks for your reaction, Rantyr.
Well unless you jump in some today and take advantage of the 1mil credits and free level ups you'll miss your chance until the game is released.
I did jump in. I got the money for each of my dastardly characters.
I downloaded the client, but never got around to install it. Poop.
So can we get a guild started for GWJ? What server?
I'll join the GWJ efforts, but this will only be a dalliance until AoC starts up.
Well, I played through the open beta, and got the "pre-boarding" pre-general-availibility offer, so I'm live now on Rackham. Haven't found a single other gwj'er there, but would like to hook up.
what nation?
Brit. U?
Pirate I'm still low level so i dont care to restart. My name will be Ranalin aTyr.
I'm not playing PoTBS, but when ya'll have a guild running, post it in the guild info thread, and I'll add ya to the top
Arrrh! OK, I'll found one. I'm British, on Rackham. I think I will name it BritGWJ, if that's not too ugly. I'm a freetrader.

characters name?
(Reposted.)
I had only completed the tutorial fight so it wasn't a big deal to change over.

I guess we both lost our characters from the beta.
You seem much more knowledgeable about this game than I am. Would you like to be co-master of our new society, with a third person? I will set it up whenever I have the $.
I would, but i honestly am not sure how much time i'll be commiting to the game. Like i've mentioned before i'm just treading water till AoC gets released, and with the other games i dabble in there's not much time left.
If nothing else i'll spend some time in game between now and the weekend and i'll get hte money for you to use to create the society.
And ya they did a wipe before the preorder entry was started. Only fair thing to do. The levels are capped now to level 21 because in 2 weeks if you had enough time you could hit 50 no problem, and that wouldn't be a fun thing to deal with when jumping brand new into the game.
