This is quite possibly the saddest thing I've seen in terms of holiday sales. This game is worth so much more than $10. Maybe more people will pick up now that it costs the same as getting a burger and drink at Red Robin.

Anyone remotely interested in football should pick it up. $10 is a steal. Call me a plant, but I love that game and it's painful to see it tossed in the bargain bin like that. Hannah Montana: Music Jam is 3 times as much.

Yeah, it's too bad. But I have to say that over the last few weeks I've been playing it more and more. There seems to be a pretty good group of players online lately, as well. I'm not seeing so many 13-year-old pubtards.

I also was sent a link to this website by a someone I played online. It's a site dedicated to strategy in APFB. They get one heck of a lot more in-depth than I ever will get, but reading how they analyze rosters has helped me quite a bit. This is such a deeper game than anyone has given in credit for. I am really hoping we get a 2K9 version. This game is so close to being perfect, I'd love to see what one more year of work on it would produce, as long as they focus on game features, and not eye candy.

For $10, all fans of football games should give this a try.

I second (third?) the praise for this game. It does not have a franchise mode, but boy I'm having a lot of fun playing through seasons with new rosters. Every league game I play makes me think about what I might do differently next season....well, if I don't completely turn over my roster, that is.

This game is a heck of a lot of fun, and a real steal at $10. After all, how many other games would leave you shouting: "F*ck you, Otto Graham!!!"

I'll be swinging by my local Best Buy to see if they have it in stock. Maybe they'll price match CC's deal $8 price on Call of Juarez.

It's the only football game in which I've ever beat Certis. It'll always hold a special place in my heart.

Okay, so reading through the FAQ on the strategy page Jayhawker linked to, I found the following:

Quote:
Will there be an All Pro Football 2k9?

Yes, 2k Sports announced in their summary stock report meeting that there would be another version of the game and that they were looking at release dates and pricing points to help boost sales of the game.

Anyone else catch this, or is it a misreading of what happened? I'd love to see an APF 2k9...in fact, I think they should include coaches with varied playbooks!

I understand people enjoying franchise mode in their sports games, but I can't think of a good way to implement it in this game. This game is about using some of your all-time favorite players, all playing at their peak. The fun is in assembling different combinations to achieve different styles of play, not building a team over the years.

But it's not shallow, either! If you take the time to read that site I linked to, you will find that there is a deep game going on here. Spend some time in the playbook manager, and I think you will be amazed at just how many plays there are to choose from. I can spend hours a night just working on a playbook. A few changes in your team, and you might need a whole new batch of plays.

What do I wish it had, or what do I hope for 2K9?

My wish list:
* No slashing the framerate in online play

That's it. Call of Duty games play at 60fps online, so does Madden. Figure it out, 2K, and get it right.

I don't get it. Sorry, Legion. I don't get it. I don't notice the difference, really. It looks fine to me online. That seems like a strange reason, anyway, to stay away from a superior football game.

As to the lack of franchise mode... what Jayhawker said. This game's depth is in actual gameplay. Maybe I'm getting to be an old man, but I'm really starting to appreciate fun gameplay as the #1 factor. A shooter or action game can be 5 hours long if it's fun. A sports game can be one like 2k8 where there are basically just seasons and it's fun, so it's okay.

This game is so timeless. Since it uses legends and doesn't have a franchise mode you could pick this up 4 years from now and it wouldn't be dated. Can you say the same for Madden. In 4 years if your team is suddenly good you won't want to play ancient Madden. I can see playing this game, however, throughout the life of the 360 (maybe I should pick myself up a second copy in case I wear the first out).

I would definitely enjoy the game at 60fps, but this game feels and plays well right now. Any improvements would be icing on the cake, for me.

Playing football games against a live person is one of my favorite pastimes. Back in the day, 3-6 of us would play Madden regularly, winner gets next game. Playing the 2k games with league options is the best way to recreate that same kind of fun we had back then. It's so much better than just random pick-up games. So that is important to me, and much more so than 60fps.

But it sure wouldn't bother me a bit if you get your wish, Legion!

The Circuit City near me actually had Call of Juarez, under the "V" section. Still labelled at 29.99 on front and 19.99 on back, but 7.99 ring-up. Too bad no Monster Madness, I was looking for that one to drop in price to maybe 15.00 before I bought it, but $8 seems about right for an XBLA game.

Also had Project:Sylpheed for 39.99, 29.99, and 16.96. Aeon Flux for the XBox for 29.99, 19.99, and 12.96. God bless Circuit City and their pricing.

There is definite and obvious framerate slowdown and input lag in online multiplayer. Every game, no matter who you play with. I love the game anyway and enjoyed most of my time online with it, but Legion's right.

If you don't notice it.. that's great for you, but there's a huge difference between singleplayer and multiplayer in this one that wasn't there in NFL2k5. There's absolutely no good reason for it to run the way it does online. There's moments when trying to kickoff or punt in an online game is infuriating because the input is so damned slow.

He may be right. My point is I don't know. I honestly don't notice it. Of course, people talk about dipping framerates all the time and I rarely "get it". I am usually kind of "meh" on the whole issue as I really don't notice a game having problems. Maybe I'm blindish.

There are definitely games during which this is an issue, but it very much depends on the opponent for me. Last season I had issues in maybe two games, and I had a bit of difficulty the first game this season. In one case, it was because the other person's connection was horrible (I'm looking squarely at you, Bagga! ).

In the other two cases, the issues were a bit more subtle, but noticeable. The kicking game was definitely affected, and some of the timing on other plays was a bit off, too.

Having said that, this game is still a heck of a lot of fun, online or off!

Very cool game. I spend over an hour fiddling with team creation, and I think I'll spend another hour tonight - I don't really need a gold quarterback with the running game I'd like to have.

I'm not big into sports games but I do enjoy one every so often. It sounds like this will be part of everyone's library and $10 is a great price. I'll look for it but I will be away from my 360 for the holidays, so I'll look for you guys again in January.

This game has become my default stocking stuffer for my Brother, Brother-in-law, a cousin and a friend (or two). $10 for what appears to be a quality football game with a robust online component is beyond a bargain.

I'm curious if this will make the title hard to find after the initial rush to get the game on the cheap.

Man, this is sad. I saw it in the bargain bin for $20 at Best Buy. It was that, Shrek, and some last-gen games. I LOVE 2k Football. The legends thing has turned the game, in some ways, into a pseudo-Maddenesque experience (a few stars blowing away average joes)...the old 2k gameplay is intact, though, and the "superstar" players gameplay is forgiveable since you have some of the greats playing against filler guys.

Awesome game. Awesome gameplay. Sad state of affairs.

Exactly. And it's not the aesthetic part that bothers me so much, it's the input lag that you describe. And like you said, it's something that wasn't there in 2K5 (sure, network lag occurred at times, but not an ever present lag in your input). Anyone that played against me in the 2K5 leagues will tell you how much of my game was dropping into coverage on defense and manually swatting and intercepting passes. 2K8's input online is so poor that it just wasn't possible for me to do the same in this game. And that's a reduction in playability that I wasn't ready to tolerate, especially when the offline game played so perfectly.

I love the 2K games, I'd argue that there's nobody here that played more 2K football than I did prior to 2K8. It's frustrating to not have the kid of precise input that previous 2K football games did. It's not the same online experience. I wouldn't even mind the game being capped at 30fps as long as the input was down-to-the-frame precise like in the offline game.

All of that aside, I still fully endorse 2K8 as an offline game, and $10 is a fantastic steal.
