...title says it all really.

We've been using osCommerce for the last 3~4 years and while it is functional what I really want is something which also allows me to track my inventory correctly (something not possible with product options in the current osCommerce setup unless you're willing to do a lot of work with some nasty php).

I'm willing to pay, but I'd much prefer a once off fee not a monthly one. I can do all my own installation setup.
I'm thinking squirrelcart but does anyone else have any suggestions?

I would keep an eye on Magento if you're looking to stick to Open Source solutions

Still in beta right now, but it looks very slick.

thanks for that chris. I a week of searching that's the first mention I've heard of that.
They're not quite feature complete on the stuff I need but I'll definitely keep an eye on it and hopefully it'll be usable in the new year.

I don't know anything about this field at all, but I've seen Compiere and SugarCRM mentioned a lot.

If anyone's interested I plumped for ZenCart. Another open source solution which is a branch of osCommerce. I'm absolutely delighted with it so far.

I migrated all the old osCommerce data without too many problems (some sql-fu required but nothing too hard) so I didn't lose any of the collected data and neither did my customers have to re-enter details.

So far the community seems much more friendly with a bigger userbase than oscommerce.

It seems to have a much better organised architecture/code base and because of this all of the add-ons i've installed (only 2 so far) seem to be working perfectly with no tweaking.

so two thumbs up.. so far.
