I miss my dog.
We've had a Border Collie named Maggie for about thirteen years now. She's easily been the best dog we've ever had.

That's her last summer on the driveway next to the front yard.
We're pretty sure she had some kind of heart attack last night. She can't or won't eat and can't stand up at all. What's really and truly awful is you can tell that she's still smart. When you talk to her, she responds just like she always did, she just can't do anything about it. She's still in there, trying to be her old self.
I didn't know anything had happened to her until this morning. When I saw her laying in the family room I called her and she tried to get up and just couldn't. She can't hold her head still when she manages to hold it up at all. She kind of bobs it from side to side uncontrollably.
She's very obviously in pain. Barring some kind of miracle advice from the vet once we get there we're going to have her put down in a few hours.
We moved her off the tile floor onto a big thick rug she always liked to lay on, but I don't know what else to really do until it's time to take her to the clinic. Feeling pretty helpless at the moment ya know?
I hate to be a downer. I just had to let it out somewhere and everybody I know is at work.

Sorry to hear that, dogs are really a part of the family...When I was 13 I was so stressed out I started smoking after my Springer Spaniel "Happy" died...20 years later I'm still stressed and still smoke...I guess if there is a morel to this story it's "don't start smoking" (?)...Anyway, that sucks; sorry for your loss
...If dat b*tch can't swim, she's bound to drizzown!
What a sweet-looking dog. Good luck, Thin J.

She is a beautiful dog. My advice is to make her as comfortable as possible, giving her water and food if she'll take it. If you can, spend time with her and give her attention.
I hope everything works out.

My thoughts are with you. A few years ago, our dog went from apparently happy and healthy to having a seizure and dying right in front of us, all in the span of a week. It's terrible to have to watch someone you love suffer, especially when you can't do anything to help them.
Focus on the happy memories. She sounds like a great dog.
Your dog is beautiful, and I'm sure she's a great companion. I have a border collie mix myself, and just thinking about that day in the future brings a tear to my eye.
Just spend her last moments with her: I'm sure your presence is comforting and she wants to be with you.
I'm actually teary right now, I love dogs so much.

My dog(a welsh corgi) that I got for my 11th birthday died two years ago when he became sick from cancer. He died soon after and I still can't look at dogs without thinking of him.
Keep on trucking.

Vet said we were likely right about the heart attack. Her front right leg was paralyzed and she only had partial control in the back.
Put her to sleep

That really sucks man. I've had to give the order to puts a couple of beloved pets down in my life and I know how hard it is and how much it feels like losing a family member. I'm really sorry to hear about this and that it happened so suddenly. At least you did your best to make her feel comfortable and loved and I'm sure she knew that. My best wishes to you and your family.

I'm sorry to hear about that, Thin_J. If nothing else, think of these two things:
1) You did your best to help her get better, and when the time came, you made the decision that kept her in the least amount of pain possible.
2) She's now somewhere where she'll always be young, spry, and the lovable girl you'd loved, and she won't ever be in pain again.
Do what you need to do to grieve for Maggie, man, and make sure to give Maggie the proper send-off, in whatever way you feel necessary.
