Take a game you like and imagine a developer.

I've just got Tomb Raider: Anniversary in the post. It's a good game, but as I play it I keep thinking 'If Infinity Ward got their hands on this, the environments would look incredible. The rubble and haze of COD4 is just right for these ruined temples. And if the team from Assassin's Creed did Lara's animation, I think all the climbing would look much, much better'.

In the same way that that combination would be a 'dream team' for the Tomb Raider franchise, I'd like to dream teams would you come up with for games you like. Would you put Epic's GoW team in charge of combat for Mass Effect? Perhaps you'd have Ken Levine work on the script for Halo 3. Whatever you choose, I'm sure we'll come up with some interesting combinations.

Well I guess I'm the first response. My first one was something I thought about while playing star wars galaxies..."Man I bet this would not suck if bioware had been the developer". Personally I wish Epic had been able to be the developers on Call of Duty 4...I would have loved to see a cover system of some sort or some smart single player AI that didn't block you out of a room and try to clear it for you, and the ability to open doors would have been spectacular. I will add more as I think of them but those are the first 2 that came to mind.

I'd settle just for having the team from Troika back together, with the funding for a triple-A title and lack of publisher interference.

I'm dying for Bethesda or someone equally talented to take the new Crytek engine and make an RPG out of it. Beautiful world, can have open-ended environments, can handle weather patterns and unlike current RPGs, you can throw your fireball spell at a wall or something and it will have a profound effect.

I'd like a shooter which puts you in a big world where you wander around finding new weapons and armor, with some basic skill choices, and no load times anywhere. I'd have Carmack do the engine, Croteam (Serious Sam) do the world, Valve do the character design and AI, and Blizzard balance all the items and skills.

They probably are as we speak, except it takes place in medieval times instead of modern London, and they're calling it Diablo 3.

And I'd like FSS to revamp WoW's item grind.

I'd like to see Blizzard redo Dungeon Siege or do a Fanstasy themed Mechcommander 2.

I'd like Big Huge Games to redo a Mechcommander battlepak (1, 1's expansion, 2, and new 2 expansion)

I'd like to see Crytek redo Planetside with FSS doing art direction.

I'm gonna go for this with a twist.
I want a full singleplayer game, much as bethesda has done before, supplemented with an MMO experience in an Elder Scrolls world. Limit server size and have multiples of each guild(like 4 thieves guilds) and minimize npc input.
My dream.

Is that a jab at Bethesda games or the new Crytek engine? Because I'm like 6 hours in on Crysis and I've yet to encounter a "wall of foliage" like that. The only limits so far seem to be actual honest to god terrain features like vertical cliffs and hills that are just too steep to climb. I don't believe I've ever played any of the Bethesda games because they don't interest me, so I need a little clarification there.

Just checking

That's a REALLY good one! Man, I can't imagine the level of awesome that would be.

I'd like to see NovaLogic take a crack at the next Battlefield game. A developer with a good record of tactical games and usually putting out polished products that aren't broken for months after release.

Crysis has invisible walls. Technically Oblivion does as well at the edges of Cyrodil, but they're keeping you from wandering into wild terrain. To me, the Crytek engines have screamed for a big open island with no contrived methods of confining you to a path, and objectives. The engine can handle the terrain, why not use it? The engine implies freedom, but it's really just keeping you in really wide foliage corridors.

I never encountered an invisible wall either, but I don't doubt that they exist. If they made an island, you'd still have a shark/artillery line in the water. You've got to hit a limit somewhere.
