Hearing a lot of reviews saying the game is going to run horribly on most systems...the big draw for me with this game was that the game looked amazing. So, the fact that it wont really look this good for a lot of people because they don't have the very best equiptment is going to be a let down for a lot of people.

I have a pretty decent system and the demo ran great in 1920x1200... although I do have 2 640 GTS in SLI... Its amazing how much the SLI helps. I had just one running and the game ran like a pig but as soon as I enabled SLI it was great.

Anyway, just installed it. Took 32 minutes to install!

So I played a bunch of it tonight. There's been several moments where I've entered a cave here or notice a particular terrain type starting to show up and I kind of groan...

But the game never goes where I expect it to. It's been a lot of fun for the most part. That said, I was having a hugely great time right up until

the damned helicopter shows up at night when you're supposed to move down the river to the excavation site. Never have I started off so tense and into a game when something first happens and then been so completely annoyed and pissed off with it five minutes later. The briefing guy suggests you take a boat. I did.. for about thirty seconds before the helicopter hit it with rockets. I figured no biggie, I'll just make liberal use of the cloaking system and running from tree to tree to lose the helicopter and I can run the rest of the way. It's not that far. Only there's no solid way to lose the helicopter. I'd get just to a point where I thought it had lost me and then somehow when I was crouched behind a tree hundreds of yards away.. the minute I uncloak to recharge the helicopter rushes toward me blasting machinegun rounds the whole way.

There's no rhyme or reason to what makes it see you one time and not another. You all know how little time you get in cloak while you're moving. Well I had to run from tree to tree like that the entire way to this objective to keep from dying. I'd say if you were doing it in a boat and the helicopter didn't kill said boat it'd probably be two solid minutes of just driving straight there. Instead I spent a good fifteen minutes just playing hide-and-go-seek with a helicopter.

Seriously. It started off cool. I found some really thick bushes, laid down, and dropped the cloak and the helicopter didn't seem able to find me. Then when I did the same thing thirty yards away it keyed on me instantly.

I guess Crytek never figured out how to make their AI good without giving them psychic freaking mind powers.

Phew. Sure does feel good to get that off my chest.

Oh, and it happens again later, with it showing up and you not really being able to do anything about it.

I totally hear you Thin_J. I just got through it using maximum speed and hiding. It was boring as hell. I think you're supposed to have saved some rockets for it, or maybe use the machine gun.

I think the suit is one of the few things spicing up this game. It's pretty fun to mess around with the AI. Only the suit energy is drained too fast I think. I will be messing with some values to see if it gets more fun when you have more energy. I think it will.

Well I've just bought my copy now, installing away... Ironically I had a bit of a crisis when I first put the disk in, It made the noise of a floppy drive for about 2 minuites before finally recognising the disk! bizzare I know, But according to a google search on the interwebs, lots of other people are having this same experience. dodgy EA spywarez prehaps? who knows

There is a hut with missile launchers near by if I remember right. I have played up to the point you get into the ship and I have never been without a trusty rocket Launcher. 2 Shot and the choppers eat dirt!

Played a bit of DM on Crysis this morning and it was fun, started to be able to do combo's with powers, the trick is to swap back to armor mode. Like Max Strength, jump while flying through the air switch to armor mode, when you hit the ground, switch to max speed run up to a person then switch to max strength.. You got about 1 shot worth of energy. But I normally leave it in armor mode and close in firing then swap to max strength before I give them a taste of the rifle butt.

I had a nice moment when I was being chased by a helicoptor, and was also getting shot at by a soldier in a watch tower. I managed to hit the heli with my rocket launcher while it was just above the tower...and then on the second hit (got it on it wing), instead of blowing up right away, it dropped out of the sky, landing right on the tower, taking out the soldier. I wish I had fraps or something on at the time....

I have to admit I am having a total blast with this game. I love taking my time and trying to stealth through w/out setting off any alarms.

But one thing is that the AI definitely could use some work. Here is a pic of exactly what I mean. Every time I would snipe a guy in this machine gun nest, another happy N Korean would wander by, see the nest as empty and then plop himself down behind the gun in order to get sniped again. I must have killed over 15 guys this way... you would think that having to climb over 10+ bodies to get to an unmanned machine gun would give a clue as to the safety of manning said machine gun.

Oh well... still a lot of fun!

What difficulty lvl are you playing on Par? I'm playing on Delta and the AI is amazing. Patrols will sweep and clear suspicious activity, the AI will call in support, etc.

I'm surprised this game isn't getting more GWJ love, it is extremely well done.

Oh I was a puss and started on "normal"... so maybe that is it. I mean the AI is pretty smart in most instances and not too smart in others (i.e. can see you through leaves when you cannot). But that scripted sequence of them seeing an empty machine gun nest and then wanting to fill it when there are a crap load of bodies around it is pretty funny.

But I agree with you, very little love for this game... I think people are put off by the system requirements. I dont know how the game is on a lower setting... I guess I'm just lucky I can play on a high one.

As of right now, this is my GOTY.

I think I am almost near to the end now, I was worried that it would all go a bit pete tong and turn into farcry's terrible finale but I am glad to report it hasnt done that yet. Its the sort of game I can see myself coming back and playing again once I have the ability to run it on completely maxed out settings. At the moment I am running everything on medium and despite one or two irritating slowdowns at certain points , its mainly been completely playable and visually impressive. In terms of emergent war stories(tm) I have had soo many amazing moments that I am actually struggling to pick out one in particular... saying that, there was this one section where I was on a rooftop with my high precision rifle (god I love that gun) slowly tracking the movement of a kpa patrol as it moved between some buildings. I decided to take out the guy at the back of the patrol who had an assault rifle as he seemed to pose the biggest threat once everything "went hot" (the other two were carrying shotguns) I lined up the shot and fired, but missed... "crap" was my first thought, but then after the absolute perfect dramatic millisecond pause, a huge gas station that was behind the assault rifle guy (which I hadn't realised was there, it was obscured by trees) erupted into a huge firey explosion of death sauce, taking out the whole patrol... I had just enough time to admire the explosion smile as the nearby palm trees slowly fell, before from behind me I hear the crack of a flare going up as a signal for reinforcements.... On with the mission!... I can't give this game enough praise, the audio is also well worth a mention, from the general chatter from the enemy grunts, to the overaching thematic score... It really does feel like you are playing through some sort of twisted version of Predator

While its starting to get a little Xen on me right now, i love this game.

I think a lot of the non-love/hate for it is because of the whole DX10 showcase thing. A lot of people, myself included, thought it was gonna be a pretty poor game that looked fantastic, but in fact its actually an awesome game that looks fantastic.

Well, actually, on my machine it looks like crap... but if I had money for a real rig, it would probably look great.

Also, I didn't even know there was a multiplayer mode when I bought the game, and I tried it out yesterday and ended up playing for about 3 hours. I was amazed to find every weapon, all the customizations and suit powers and a ton of sweet vehicles made the transition to MP. It's kinda like a fun version of the battlefield games.

Yeah totally... I gave it a quick go earlier in the weekend, there seems to be a fair bit to get used to etc but I can see it being totally awesome with voip and people who know what they are doing good fun!

You can also fire at the side rockets on the heli's wings if you don't have rockets. It will make the heli retreat (for a while) if you at least explode one.

I didn't have one. In fact I've still only found rocket launchers twice. And I never had extra ammo after use. Tanks take three shots, empty. AA vehicles take three shots, empty. And there aren't any more in the immediate area unless they were in one specific building that a tank actually drove through and destroyed.

A GWJ get together might be interesting. I haven't tried Power Struggle, because it sounds really cool, but also sounds like something that attracts jackassery to an insane degree.

Anyways, while I agree with Elysium's assessment because I thought the game did improve towards the end, although I do understand the complaints. While I had a blast, the lack of the open-ended gameplay at the endgame essentially means that the first half of the game has infinite replayability while the second half would probably be tedious a second time through. Mind you, once the modding community makes some great expansive jungle maps and sticks a bunch of Koreans there, that kind of stuff will never get old.

I would think the first rule of PR is to ignore forum people, because they vacillate between crazy and liar. - Elysium

So far, the demo level seems to be the biggest I've encountered, but I'm not too far in yet.

Still, that's pretty huge.

I'm kind of hot and cold on this game. There were points where it seemed like my only option was to stealth/cloak past enemies which I really hated, and other areas where I was really feeling the "emergent" thing happening, jumping from speed to cloak to strength. I really think it's most fun when there's only about a half dozen sort of spaced out enemies to deal with, so you can really use your powers in a diverse and interesting way without facing overwhelming odds.
