November 5 - 9
A week of niche and mediocrity befalls us, as numerous expansions, ports and titles of possible quality fill the shelf space of your local Electronics Conglomerate Emporium. Microsoft brings Gears of War and Viva Pinata to the PC, Everquest II and Supreme Commander get expansions, and the DS is a flurry of activity with a new Dragon Quest game, Puzzle de Harvest Moon and Panzer Tactics. But, the big game of the week comes from Activision which finally brings its traditional World War II shooter into the modern era with Call of Duty 4, which also takes our borderline enthusiastic Game of the Week. Despite a traditionally cliched setting, I've always like the CoD games for their cinematic presentation, decent multiplayer and solid gameplay, so even if this is just more of the same versus terrorists instead of Nazis, then I may be convinced to be satisfied with that. Glowing endorsement, I know.
Meanwhile on DVD, Pixar brings us Ratatouille, Adam Sandler pretends to be gay in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and HBO's quirky Flight of the Conchords has its first season released.

Viva Pinata for PC? Is that serious?
Bet it's Vista-only.
Same with Gears.
Fire Emblem, yay!

Yes, and in fact there were some murmurings about Windows Live being updated to work with XP in order to accommodate Gears multiplayer and Achievements. No idea where we are with that, though.

If the beta's any indication, COD4's multiplayer will be more than just decent. I'm really looking forward to it.

It was updated a couple weeks ago to play in XP. Clearly Epic has enough clout for Microsoft to loosen up a little bit.
Your favourite game is over-rated.
Aye, it was outstanding. I'll be picking this up tomorrow.
I'm eagerly awaiting reviews for Panzer Tactics DS. The interface and graphics look pretty polished.
I'll be picking up Call of Duty 4 tomorrow.

Oh, Gears is coming out finally? Hm, I was expecting more chatter.

Honestly, between Orange Box, Hellgate, and The Witcher....I'm swamped in cornucopia of PC gaming goodness, and don't have time for a console port. Amazing for a dying platform! I'll check it out in the spring.
I am excited for Viva Pinata though - the PC release caught be by surprise. I'll add it to the list.

I'm interested in the CoD4 MP. It sounded very good for the 360, I just hopes it carries over to the PC.
Gears sounds ok, especially coop, but no way I'm going to install that live crap. Which I assume to be crap without ever seeing it.
I don't watch, I interact!
What, no hyperlinks to EB Games? Argh, I sold my copy and paste keys to the devil years ago!
In Ultima Online I used to poison hams and leave them on the ground in cities for people to pick up and eat. I can't believe how many people thought street ham was a good thing to eat. -Elliottx
I'm hoping to pick up COD4 for the 360 today and am actually very curious about Mario/Sonic Olympics for the Wii. It has potential to be a great party game. It's also coming at a good time since we decided to break in the cold weather this weekend by inviting some friends over for a game night. Here's to renting it to make sure it's worthwhile

I'm one of the few people on the planet who hasn't played Gears of War, so I'm very happy that the PC version is finally available! All reports indicate that it runs great and I even managed to snag it for a good pre-order price. Butt-pats all around!

Isn't Battalion Wars 2 out for the Wii today too? I don't know much about it or the first one. Are they good? Something 'new' for the Wii in having a rts wargame?
Battalion Wars was a good budget title, and I am interested in the new one for multiplayer since the origonal lacked it. It could be very interesting.
Otherwise this is a crazy week. Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance (yes please), Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Call of Duty 4
WOW!

Not too mention some places have Mario Galaxy in stock. I saw it at BB the other day and am kicking myself for not picking it up on the spot. It sounds like a blast to play.

What's worse than Sam & Max being missing from that list? No one else bringing it up in the comments... so here I am to save the day, though a little late.
