Was reading a post on the Age of Conan sight and came across this site.

Funcom announced awhile back they were making another game earlier in the year, but i had no clue what they had going along with it. They've got a SERIOUS ARG background story with this and it's still on going.

This is a VERY cool way to start a game off.

Is using some of the same viral advertising and ARG tactics to get their movie noticed.

But definitely different, I take it. I haven't seen anything about Cloverfield since summer, so I was starting to wonder.

Then again, I guess I didn't get hooked enough to keep looking for things.

There's been some leaks here/there and Abrams telling some out right lies, but nothing for a month or so. I expect it to jump in high gear end of Nov.

On the subject of things viral. It's been announced that Cloverfield will have a real trailer with the real name of the movie in front of the Beowolf feature.

I'm going to be sooooooooooo disappointed with the new Beowulf movie. Its as if someone thought to themselves, "Hey, it worked for 300, so why can't we do it for this." They must have even hired the same writers -- "I....am.....BEOWULF!"

Really? Sometimes newer and shinier does not equate to better. There was already a good Beowulf that came out recently with real actors and real acting!

Well, Cooking Mama didn't help me become a better cook, and Trauma Center certainly didn't help me become a better surgeon. I have the proof of both sitting in my freezer. -- imbiginjapan

Which actually had Gerald Butler as Beowulf! I'm a fawning adolescent in my crush for all things Angelina Jolie so i'll be watching it and grimacing probably through most of it.

I saw another post that the real name for Cloverfield is going to be... Cloverfield

Anyone else checking this out yet?

The amount of information the guys on their main site are chewing through are crazy.

All I saw about this game was that poster on the first post. I'm more focused on Age of Conan and if that turns out to be good, I'll be very excited about this one too.

I'm definitely all excited about AoC, but i'm more than interested in a MMO not set in a fantasy setting and expanding the MMO landscape in general. With the way they're going about it right now i'm very impressed. The Christmas card is just an example.

Funcom definitely has their sh*t together.

I doubt they'll do a Station Pass type of deal. Would be nice though.

As for whats in the game... not a whole lot is known. Just bits and pieces that people put together from the hints Funcom throws out.

I hate to revive an old thread, but I couldn't find anywhere that talked about all the updates on The Secret World. Last weekend they had a pretty elaborate puzzle up for the community to figure out. When they did, they were rewarded with a key. Some guess that it is a Beta key.
This morning we were treated with the embargo being lifted and a cinematic on the homepage. Although it isn't gameplay, you have to have some respect for the artists that did this piece, it is beautiful.
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere...

Yeah, oops, guess I had to search for 'The Secret World' cause that didn't come up when I searched for just The Secret World and TSW and Secret World... Oh well. There it is. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go back to replying The Longest Journey. There's been a little hate in that other thread and I need to see if I was just too young and inexperienced to notice the faults. Though I'm not that young.

This is on my list and the people behind this are very talented. I would only imagine they've learned their lesson with AoC. I've been following this for over a year already, and the time spent just getting wrapped up in the ARG has been an absolute blast.

Also dont forget the cool 2nd video.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/cg-demon-the-secret/55488

They announced 3 factions earlier. Illuminati, Templars, Dragon.

First video was of a Dragon Member and this one Templar's. So one more CG creepy goodness.

Info from PaX

Quote:
Visually, the game engine is running on the next generation of the Age of Conan engine. In fact, Ragnar informed us that all the performance improvements seen in that game are in part due to TSW's development cycle and the upgrades they've been making throughout the process.

Quote:
Obviously this is a very important aspect to the game. In fact, the idea of secret organizations running the world is central to TSW, according to Tornquist. You won't be playing with people from the other societies, ever. Sure, an Illuminati player could walk into the Templar headquarters, but they'd be attacked on sight, no questions asked. And actually, these three organizations that the players can join are not the only ones in the world

Quote:
Let's touch some more on progression. When you being in a secret society, you're nothing more than an initiate on the bottom of the totem pole, but as you kill monsters, finish missions, solve puzzles and explore, you'll earn access to more and more of what your particular society has to offer. However, Ragnar wanted to be clear that progression is neither linear or set in stone. He told us flat out that a player can reinvent their character every day, but of course wouldn't go into too many specifics. We did manage to find out that while there is equipment with stats tied to them, clothing itself will only affect the way your character looks. This essentially falls in line with Funcom's focus on people being able to play the way they want and look the way they want
